Book Feminism Against Progress

Download or read book Feminism Against Progress written by Mary Harrington and published by Swift Press. This book was released on 2023-03-02 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'An exhilarating read' New Statesman In Feminism Against Progress, Mary Harrington argues that the industrial-era faith in progress is turning against all but a tiny elite of women. Women's liberation was less the result of human moral progress than an effect of the material consequences of the Industrial Revolution. We've now left the industrial era for the age of AI, biotech and all-pervasive computing. As a result, technology is liberating us from natural limits and embodied sex differences. Although this shift benefits a small class of successful professional women, it also makes it easier to commodify women's bodies, human intimacy and female reproductive abilities. This is a stark warning against a dystopian future whereby poor women become little more than convenient sources of body parts to be harvested and wombs to be rented by the rich. Progress has now stopped benefiting the majority of women, and only a feminism that is sceptical of it can truly defend female interests in the 21st century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is your brain. Isolated from the world inside your skull. Your senses provide its only clues to what's going on out there. But how can your brain take the limited information from your senses to build your trust worth reality? Why your brain is constantly being fooled by what you see? What we're trying to is not the world as it is, but something else. We are actually generating perspirations of a world that's useful to see. And that useful perception doesn't actually have to correspond with what's actually there. When you open your eyes, right, first time in the morning, say do you think you see the world as it really is? It has to do with how your brain uses shadows to make decisions about what it's seeing. Take a look at any object. One glance, and you know what it is. But how do you know what it is, and where it is positioned in space? The light reflected this object is converted by your eyes into an electrical signal and is send down a neurological pathway called the optic nerve to the back of your brain. Starting in the region called the visual cortex, the image is cross-referenced with memory of past experiences started through your brain as you try to identify the object. Once it's figured out what it is, your brain has to decide how the object is positioned in the space and one of its most reliable tool is use shadows. In a world with a single light source your brain has learned to trust shadows as a near-fool proof way to know the behavior of objects in space. And in general it worked. Your brain using past experiences to generate its perception of the world.

Book Mothering with Breastfeeding and Maternal Care

Download or read book Mothering with Breastfeeding and Maternal Care written by Mizin Park Kawasaki and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As women continue to bear children, all parents should ask the following question: How can a woman fulfill her unique responsibility as mother to her child when prevailing parenting practices deny the importance of breastfeeding and maternal care? Maternal care is now thought to be impractical and a luxury for those who can afford it. Thus, many women need to defend their right and responsibility to care for even the youngest of babies. Dr. Kawasaki, a pediatrician and stay-at-home mother of two, asserts in Mothering with Breastfeeding and Maternal Care that current attitudes toward mothering have not evolved naturally. Over the course of a century, child-rearing experts, sociologists, and feminists have made systematic efforts to undermine the importance of a woman's role in the home. Dr. Kawasaki offers compelling reasons for parents to think seriously about the unique role women play in their children's lives, particularly in early childhood. She argues that the priceless benefits of breastfeeding and hands-on maternal care help to ensure the optimal growth and development of young babies and children.

Book Spiritualism God s Great Controversy

Download or read book Spiritualism God s Great Controversy written by Tom Ogren and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In John 15:9, 10, Jesus is laying the foundation for His followers to bring into their experience. Jesus is making it easy for us to know how this relationship is to be maintained. These verses read, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in His love.” His commandments to us is the law or character that makes up His kingdom that Jesus was making available to us, as He paid the ultimate price for our redemption. Jesus is making the statement, “Continue in my love,” and He is showing us how this will be accomplished. “If ye keep my commandment, ye shall abide in my love.” These verses are telling us that Jesus did not have any intentions of setting aside the Ten Commandments that’s been so readily done away with in the churches of our upbringing. Because we have experienced so many years in this nation separated from His law of love, we are living in a nation having the government promoting moral law. This all seems harmless until government law goes contrary to God’s law, as this nation becomes more spiritual but not religious. For a better understanding in all this, continue reading Spiritualism . . . God’s Great Controversy.
