Download or read book Theology of Ministry written by Eduardus A. J. G. Van der Borght and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theology of ministry has always been a controversial issue in the relation between churches, especially with its juridical approach that concentrated on authority. In recent decades the secularization and individualization in the Western world have intensified the challenge to reformulate the mission of the church and its ministries. Building on the Reformed theology of the 16th century (Zwingli, Calvin and confessions) and on the results of the ecumenical convergence on ministry (BEM) in the 20th century, this study presents building blocks for a renewed theology of ministry in the 21st century.

Book excerpt: One of the most influential works in the debate over the concept and definitions of liturgical theology, Context and Text by Monsignor Kevin W. Irwin is now available in a completely rewritten, new edition. In light of the historical, theological, and pastoral mandates of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Context and Text is both a proposal for and an example of an investigation of the Church's liturgical praxis from a liturgical-theological perspective. This second edition, which includes an expanded introduction, covers: · new liturgical and ecclesial contexts resulting from newly promulgated liturgies · further research in methodfor liturgical studies · consideration for changes in the cultural contexts in which people celebrate the liturgy. Besides brand-new chapters on time and sacramentality, and additions to the chapter on the arts, this edition also considers the “ongoing ‘texts and contexts’ of the liturgy as always a new event in the life and ongoing discussion of liturgical theology within Christianity.

Book The Gospel in Christian Traditions

Download or read book The Gospel in Christian Traditions written by Ted A Campbell and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-12-11 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the history of Christianity, there have been theological disputes that caused fissures among the faithful. There were the major ruptures of the Great Schism of 1054 and the Protestant Reformation. Since the Reformation, though, there has been an eruption of new denominations. The World Christian Database now list over 9000 worldwide. And new denominations are created every day, often when a group splits off from an established church because of a dispute over doctrine or leadership. With such a proliferation of denominations, could there possibly be one core Christian message that all churches share? That's the question that Ted Campbell sets out to answer in this book. He begins his examination of Christian doctrine where it started: in the gospels. He then shows how the gospel has been received and professed by Christian communities through the centuries, from the first "proto-Orthodox" Christian communities right through the modern evangelical, Pentecostal, and ecumenical movements. Campbell shows that, despite all the divisions, there is indeed a single unifying core of the faith that all Christians share. In the process, he offers a brief, well-written, and acceptable history of Christian doctrine that will be ideal for courses in the history of Christian thought.

Book Sustaining the Hope for Unity

Download or read book Sustaining the Hope for Unity written by Erin Brigham and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is unity and how does it serve as a goal for ecumenical dialogue? How can churches, ecumenical organizations, ministers, and theologians effectively approach this goal in the twenty-first century? Sustaining the Hope for Unity offers a methodological reflection on these questions using insights of contemporary critical theory. With particular attention to the work of Jürgen Habermas, the book develops a framework for exchanging religious narratives in a postmodern context marked by pluralism and ambiguity. Using this framework to address questions that have emerged out of the life of the World Council of Churches, Sustaining the Hope for Unity argues that unity must be imagined eschatologically in order to achieve inclusive and non-coercive dialogue between diverse Christian communities. Looking ahead to ecumenism in the twenty-first century, it makes a case for the role of the WCC as a public space for the exchange of religious narratives.

Download or read book Just Do It written by Dagmar Heller and published by Evangelische Verlagsanstalt. This book was released on 2018-04-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Why do the different Christian churches still celebrate the Lord's Supper separately? The discussion about this fundamental issue of ecumenical dialogue keeps coming back to two concepts that play an important role: (mutual) recognition and reception. In the end, it is about recognition of the other churches as an expression or form of the one church of Jesus Christ. This is only possible, however, if all the parties involved accept, within a process of reception, the insights they have formulated together. This volume documents the papers given at the 19th academic consultation of Societas Oecumenica (European Society for Ecumenical Research), and which deal with these two concepts from different perspectives and approaches and their importance or potential for the ecumenical movement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although many of Edmund Schlink's writings have been available in English for several decades, the publication of the new German edition offered a significant impetus for providing a fresh and more accurate translation of them. Matthew L. Becker translated key terms that occur in all five volumes consistently. Also, he corrected infelicitous and misleading renderings of Schlink's language into English, which more or less happened in all of the earlier editions. In this first volume, Becker presents a completely reworked translation of Schlink's popular work "Der kommende Christus und die kirchlichen Traditionen.
