Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Dissertation on the Sabbath: In Which the Nature of the Institution, and the Obligations to Its Observance, Are Stated and Illustrated The following Dissertation on the Sabbath, in which, the nature of the institution - the history of its origin - the obligations to its observance and the advantages attending its sanctification, are examined and detailed - is offered to the public with much deference. The Author lays no claim to originality, in any of the arguments he has employed. He is perfectly aware, that we live at too late a period of the world, to obtain so rare a merit, on a question that has been so often, and so fully discussed. The subject, however, is one, respecting which, mankind are very much divided in opinion; and he is not without hope, that the present work may prove useful, by calling the attention of the reader to a view of it, which has not been very generally contemplated. This book was released on 2020-02-16 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God have a plan and purpose for mankind, for you personally? God amazing master plan for the human family, precisely as it is outlined by the biblical seventh-day Sabbath. Biblical day. We should observe the seventh day of the week (Saturday), from even to even, as the Sabbath of the Lord our God. Evening is at sunset when day ends. Some count Sunday separately as the Lord's day and many consider it appropriate for command worship, but not 1st day rest which, would be considered breaking the Ten Commandments. Many denominations had only seen what they want to see based on His approach to seventh day. Some believe based on misunderstandings that Jesus came to do away with the law thus ignored or deliberately broke the Sabbath commandment. If you're among this group I challenge you to think deeper ask yourself this question? "what do I believe" are you doing the will of God? Paul was ordained a minister of Jesus Christ in 2000, a church planted, ministers in the churches, Northwest Community Church, Houston TX, minister in Stuttgart, Germany, (Evangelico Chiesa di Cristo) Evangelical Church of Christ, L'Aquila Italy, and various churches in Houston TX. Paul attended Liberty Theological Seminary Alabama with a BA in Theology in 2004, and Advance Pastoral in Master's Program. Book excerpt: The ancient institution of the Sabbath which has persisted throughout the centuries and to this very day defines the identity, religious and cultural practices of the Jewish community. This study aims to offer a more accurate description of the literary and redaction history of the Sabbath commandments in the Bible from the perspective of the inner-biblical interpretation, and to understand the theological and intellectual endeavour of scribes, who were responsible for the different redactional layers. Hence, the Sabbath commandments are presented against the time span of 'exile and return' spread over the Neo-Babylonian and Persian periods. In the final part, the Sabbath is discussed as identity marker: How did it function as identity marker, self-understanding and self-definition of the exiled Judean group? What was the role of the Sabbath day in the identity building strategies of the biblical authors in general? How is this perception reflected by the Sabbath commandments?

Book The Sabbath in the Classical Kabbalah

Download or read book The Sabbath in the Classical Kabbalah written by Elliot K. Ginsburg and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a critical study of the mystical celebration of Sabbath in the classical period of Kabbalah, from the late twelfth to the early sixteenth centuries. The Kabbalists' re-reading of the earlier Jewish tradition has been called a model of "mythopoeic revision," a revision rooted in a world-view that stressed the interrelation of all worlds and levels of being. This is the first work, in any language, to systematically collect and analyze all the major innovations in praxis and theology that classical Kabbalah effected upon the development of the Rabbinic Sabbath, one of the most central areas of Jewish religious practice. The author analyzes the historical development of the Kabbalistic Sabbath, constructs a theoretical framework for the interpretation of its dense myth-ritual structure, and provides a phenomenology of key myths and rituals. It is one of the first Kabbalistic studies to integrate traditional textual-historical scholarship with newer methods employed in the study of religion and symbolic anthropology.
