Book Modern Spiritualism

Download or read book Modern Spiritualism written by Eliab Wilkinson Capron and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-17 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Spiritualism: Its Facts and Fanaticisms, Its Consistencies and Contradictions: With an Appendix The entire separation, made by the old philosophy and theology, between Spirit and matter, has led thousands of philosophical minds to reject all idea of any existence of persons beyond the tangible form which men now occupy. They have failed entirely of obtaining, from old traditions, proof which looked rational to them of any such existence. The great difficulty in the way of such minds, as before intimated, is the great break in the chain between tangible and (to us) intangible substance. The fact that men could not, in a normal state, see the more refined substance to which we give the name spirit, has led theologians to declare that there was an existence, not only intangible, but absolutely something beyond, and entirely separate from, matter. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Defence of Modern Spiritualism It was difficult for me to give in to the idea that solid Oh jects could be conveyed, invisibly, through closed doors, or that heavy furniture could be moved without the interposi tion of hands. Philosophers will say these things are abso lutely impossible; nevertheless, it is absolutely certain that they do occur. I have met in the houses Of private friends, as witnesses of these phenomena, persons whose testimony would go for a good deal in a court of justice. They have in cluded peers, members Of parliament, diplomatists of the high est ra'hk, judges, barristers, physicians, clergymen, members of learned societies, chemists, engineers, journalists, and thinkers of all sorts and degrees. They have suggested and carried into effect tests of the most rigid and satisfactory char acter. The media (all non-professional) have been searched before and after séances. The precaution has even been taken of providing them unexpectedly with other apparel. They have been tied; they have been sealed; they have been secured in, every cunning and dexterous manner that ingenu ity could devise, but no deception has been discovered and no imposture brought to light. Neither was there any motive for imposture. N 0 fee or reward of any kind depended upon the success or non-success of the manifestations. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Missing Link in Modern Spiritualism IT is not that the history of Spiritual Manifestations in this century and country has not again and again been written, nor that a library of the Splendid literature of Spiritualism - narrative, philosophical, and religious - does not already exist, that I have deemed it a duty to give this history to the world. It happens that nobody else possesses - both in vivid per sonal recollections and in stores of documentary material the means and the data necessary for the task of giving a correct account of the initiation of the movement known as Modern Spiritualism; and the now hastening lapse of years gives warning that if to place it on record is a duty - as many friends have often urged - it is a duty not to be much longer delayed. Book The Nature and Tendency of Modern Spiritualism Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Nature and Tendency of Modern Spiritualism Classic Reprint written by Joseph H. Waggoner and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-09 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nature and Tendency of Modern Spiritualism While the library of Spiritualist publications, already large, is fast increasing, it is by no means surprising that books should be written against Spiritualism. Several have been presented to the public; some professing to expose it as a humbug - an illusion; others endeavoring to explain it on natural principles, as originating in magnetism, od force, Ac. These works, in the main, give evidence of learning, and a knowledge of science and philosophy. Had we any idea that this is the proper method of meeting the issue, we should not think it necessary to add to the list. But we have thought from the beginning of the work of Spiritualism, that it was Satanic in its nature and origin, and immoral in its tendency; and that the word of God presented the only antidote to its seductions. This work lays no claim to literary merit, or to philosophic or scientific research. Our course has not been in that direction. Our aim has not been to gratify a taste for such reading, but rather to make our pages useful. Nor have we aimed to please any particular class, but rather to fulfill the requirement to speak the truth in faithfulness, whether men will hear or whether they will forbear. We have written especially for the benefit of those who fear God, and tremble at his word. While we believe that in these pages is contained the only true solution of these mysterious phenomena, we would remind the readers that an intellectual conviction, or mere belief of the truth, will not shield them from the power of these deceptions. Nothing short of humble obedience to the truth, walking in the Spirit of God, will shield from the spirit of error. "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." Though he may be convinced of the truth, yet if the spirit of error reigns in his heart, the coming conflict will surely find him arrayed "against the Lamb and his army." Book The Identity of Primitive Christianity and Modern Spiritualism Vol 2 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Identity of Primitive Christianity and Modern Spiritualism Vol 2 of 2 Classic Reprint written by Eugene Crowell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Identity of Primitive Christianity and Modern Spiritualism, Vol. 2 of 2 If it be objected, as it sometimes is, that Spiritualism is not a sys' tem, my answer is, Jesus in his teachings presented no system. He taught the truth generally and specifically, but with no regard to any systematic arrangement, and there is a nearly perfect resemblance between Modern Spiritualism and Primitive Christianity in that the latter had not, and the former has not, a pronounced or written creed, or formula, or complete statement of faith and doctrine, or an eccle siastical structure and hierarchy. If these are essential to a system, then Modern Spiritualism like Primitive Christianity is not a system, but if through Spiritualism a future life is demonstrated, and its nature explained convincing evidence furnished that in that life we are all to be rewarded according to the deeds done in the body if through the knowledge derived from the inhabitants of the spiritual world we find additional and convincing evidence that God is really our Father that obedience and worship are justly due Him, and that He designs all His rational creatures to be happy; that as He is love so we must love one another, and in fact if brough the revelations of Spiritual ism we receive teachings precisely similar to those of Jesus, so com prehensive in their character as to be applicable to all the relations of life, clearly defining our duty and course, then Spiritualism is a system. That it is this, and that it is in addition both a philosophy and a religion, I believe in the future will be abundantly proved, and generally acknowledged. N o doubt it has been observed by the reader, that my subject has taken a wider range than the title of the work would seem to imply but as I proceeded in my task I found it necessary, not only to constantly refer to the spiritual manifestations of the Old Testa ment, in connection with those of the New, but to treat of them equally with the latter, and thus the work has gradually assumed a form and character in which the varied phases and features of Modern Spiritualism are viewed in the light of those of the whole Bible. It has been found necessary to thus extend the scope of the work, for the reason that the manifestations of the New Testament.
