With Sir Thomas Egerton's Additions. Edited From Manuscripts in the Huntington Library. San Marino: Huntington Library, 1942. vii, 194 pp. Reprinted 2004 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN 1-58477-355-3. Hardcover. * Reprint of first edition. Written anonymously at the end of the Year Book period, the Discourse Upon the Exposicion and Understandinge of Statutes is the earliest English treatise on the subject. Thorne's edition has the additional appeal of lengthy manuscript notes compiled from a copy owned by Sir Thomas Egerton [?1540-1617], an attorney who held several important posts in Elizabethan England including Solicitor-General and Lord Chancellor. "Professor Thorne ... has carried out his difficult task with great skill and has prefixed an introduction which can be regarded as the most authoritative and most richly documented discussion as yet upon the problems of statutory interpretation from the later fourteenth century ... to the age of Coke." Download or read book The Proclamations of the Tudor Kings written by R. W. Heinze and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1976-09-02 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Royal proclamations were an important instrument of Tudor government and their legislative function has long been a subject of historical controversy, but the actual use of them by the Tudor monarchs has not been adequately studied. The main purpose of this book is to provide a systematic analysis of the use, authority and enforcement of proclamations in early Tudor England. Professor Heinze first attempts to establish a more accurate account of the proclamations issued; and then describes their formulation and promulgation. He also investigates the authority of proclamations as defined by Parliament and the role and power attributed to them by Tudor judges and legal writers. The main body of the study traces the actual use of proclamations and their relationship to statutory and common law. Separate chapters are devoted to the controversial Statute of Proclamations and the long neglected subject of enforcement.

Download or read book Collisions in the Digital Paradigm written by David John Harvey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-23 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that the only asset that a lawyer has is time. But the reality is that a lawyer's greatest asset is information. The practice and the business of law is all about information exchange. The flow of information travels in a number of different directions during the life of a case. A client communicates certain facts to a lawyer. The lawyer assimilates those facts and seeks out specialised legal information which may be applicable to those facts. In the course of a generation there has been a technological revolution which represents a paradigm shift in the flow of information and communication. Collisions in the Digital Paradigm is about how the law deals with digital information technologies and some of the problems that arise when the law has to deal with issues arising in a new paradigm.

Download or read book The Law Emprynted and Englysshed written by David John Harvey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What impact did the printing press – a new means of communicating the written word – have on early modern English lawyers? This book examines the way in which law printing developed in the period from 1475 up until 1642 and the start of the English Civil War. It offers a new perspective on the purposes and structures of the regulation of the printing press and considers how and why lawyers used the new technology. It examines the way in which lawyers adapted to the use of printed works and the way in which the new technology increased the availability of texts and books for lawyers and the administrative community. It also considers the wider humanist context within which law printing developed. The story is set against the backdrop of revolutionary changes in English society and the move not only to print the law, but also increase its accessibility by making information available in English. The book will be of interest to lawyers and legal historians, print and book historians and the general reader.
