Book A Design Architecture for an Integrated Training System Decision Support System

Download or read book A Design Architecture for an Integrated Training System Decision Support System written by William M. Hinton and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a systems engineering analysis of the training development process required to produce an Integrated Training System (ITS) for a New Weapons System (NWS). This work was performed in response to the findings of the 1985 Army Science Board and the latest Army Aviation Mission Area Analysis, which suggest that Army training development for NWS can be improved by using a top-down approach to training system development starting very early in the NWS acquisition process. The report contains the design architecture for an Army ITS Decision Support System (DSS), portrayed in Information Definition, Mod O (IDEFo) diagrams, plus supporting data on potential users of the system, embedded training, ITS data sources, and a set of training system design elements. The architecture spans the full cycle of NWS development from Milestone O through fielding and long-term maintenance. It integrates all aspects of ITS development within and across Military Occupational Specialties, such as individual, collective, and combined arms training and institutional, unit, and distributed training. The architecture provides the basis for the development of the functional specifications for the DSS. Specific intervention points are identified to provide the focus for future efforts to develop individual methods and procedures that are compatible with the overall model. (Author) (kr).

Book Decision Support Systems for Business Intelligence

Download or read book Decision Support Systems for Business Intelligence written by Vicki L. Sauter and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-08-21 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for the First Edition "This is the most usable decision support systems text. [i]t is far better than any other text in the field" —Computing Reviews Computer-based systems known as decision support systems (DSS) play a vital role in helping professionals across various fields of practice understand what information is needed, when it is needed, and in what form in order to make smart and valuable business decisions. Providing a unique combination of theory, applications, and technology, Decision Support Systems for Business Intelligence, Second Edition supplies readers with the hands-on approach that is needed to understand the implications of theory to DSS design as well as the skills needed to construct a DSS. This new edition reflects numerous advances in the field as well as the latest related technological developments. By addressing all topics on three levels—general theory, implications for DSS design, and code development—the author presents an integrated analysis of what every DSS designer needs to know. This Second Edition features: Expanded coverage of data mining with new examples Newly added discussion of business intelligence and transnational corporations Discussion of the increased capabilities of databases and the significant growth of user interfaces and models Emphasis on analytics to encourage DSS builders to utilize sufficient modeling support in their systems A thoroughly updated section on data warehousing including architecture, data adjustment, and data scrubbing Explanations and implications of DSS differences across cultures and the challenges associated with transnational systems Each chapter discusses various aspects of DSS that exist in real-world applications, and one main example of a DSS to facilitate car purchases is used throughout the entire book. Screenshots from JavaScript® and Adobe® ColdFusion are presented to demonstrate the use of popular software packages that carry out the discussed techniques, and a related Web site houses all of the book's figures along with demo versions of decision support packages, additional examples, and links to developments in the field. Decision Support Systems for Business Intelligence, Second Edition is an excellent book for courses on information systems, decision support systems, and data mining at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels. It also serves as a practical reference for professionals working in the fields of business, statistics, engineering, and computer technology.

Book Fusing Decision Support Systems Into the Fabric of the Context

Download or read book Fusing Decision Support Systems Into the Fabric of the Context written by Ana Respício and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of Information Systems has been shifting from an aeimmersion viewAE, which relies on the immersion of information technology (IT) as part of the business environment, to a aefusion viewAE in which IT is fused within the business environment, forming a unified fabric that integrates work and personal life, as well as personal and public information. In the context of this fusion view, decision support systems should achieve a total alignment with the context and the personal preferences of users. The advantage of such a view is an opportunity of seamless integration between enterprise environments and decision support system components. Thus, researchers and practitioners have to address the challenges of dealing with this shift in viewpoint and its consequences for decision making and decision support systems theories and applications. This book presents the latest innovations and advances in decision support systems with a special focus on the fusion view. These achievements will be of interest to all those involved and interested in decision making practice and research, as well as, more generally, in the fusion view of modern information systems. The book covers a wide range of topical themes including a fusion view of business intelligence and data warehousing, applications of multi-criteria decision analysis, intelligent models and technologies for decision making, knowledge management, decision support approaches and models for emergency management, and medical and other specific domains.

Book Evaluation of U S Air Force Preacquisition Technology Development

Download or read book Evaluation of U S Air Force Preacquisition Technology Development written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the days of biplanes and open cockpits, the air forces of the United States have relied on the mastery of technology. From design to operation, a project can stretch to 20 years and more, with continuous increases in cost. Much of the delay and cost growth afflicting modern United States Air Force (USAF) programs is rooted in the incorporation of advanced technology into major systems acquisition. Leaders in the Air Force responsible for science and technology and acquisition are trying to determine the optimal way to utilize existing policies, processes, and resources to properly document and execute pre-program of record technology development efforts, including opportunities to facilitate the rapid acquisition of revolutionary capabilities and the more deliberate acquisition of evolutionary capabilities. Evaluation of U.S. Air Force Preacquisition Technology Development responds to this need with an examination of the current state of Air Force technology development and the environment in which technology is acquired. The book considers best practices from both government and industry to distill appropriate recommendations that can be implemented within the USAF.
