Book Defect Correction Methods

Download or read book Defect Correction Methods written by K. Böhmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years ago, the term "defect correction" was introduced to characterize a class of methods for the improvement of an approximate solution of an operator equation. This class includes many well-known techniques (e.g. Newton's method) but also some novel approaches which have turned out to be quite efficient. Meanwhile a large number of papers and reports, scattered over many journals and institutions, have appeared in this area. Therefore, a working conference on "Error Asymptotics and Defect Corrections" was organized by K. Bohmer, V. Pereyra and H. J. Stetter at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach in July 1983, a meeting which aimed at bringing together a good number of the scientists who are active in this field. Altogether 26 persons attended, whose interests covered a wide spectrum from theoretical analyses to applications where defect corrections may be utilized; a list of the participants may be found in the Appendix. Most of the colleagues who presented formal lectures at the meeting agreed to publish their reports in this volume. It would be presumptuous to call this book a state-of-the-art report in defect corrections. It is rather a collection of snapshots of activities which have been going on in a number of segments on the frontiers of this area. No systematic coverage has been attempted. Some articles focus strongly on the basic concepts of defect correction; but in the majority of the contributions the defect correction ideas appear rather as instruments for the attainment of some specified goal.

Book Handbook of Functional Equations

Download or read book Handbook of Functional Equations written by Themistocles M. Rassias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Richard Bellman has so elegantly stated at the Second International Conference on General Inequalities (Oberwolfach, 1978), “There are three reasons for the study of inequalities: practical, theoretical, and aesthetic.” On the aesthetic aspects, he said, “As has been pointed out, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, it is generally agreed that certain pieces of music, art, or mathematics are beautiful. There is an elegance to inequalities that makes them very attractive.” The content of the Handbook focuses mainly on both old and recent developments on approximate homomorphisms, on a relation between the Hardy–Hilbert and the Gabriel inequality, generalized Hardy–Hilbert type inequalities on multiple weighted Orlicz spaces, half-discrete Hilbert-type inequalities, on affine mappings, on contractive operators, on multiplicative Ostrowski and trapezoid inequalities, Ostrowski type inequalities for the Riemann–Stieltjes integral, means and related functional inequalities, Weighted Gini means, controlled additive relations, Szasz–Mirakyan operators, extremal problems in polynomials and entire functions, applications of functional equations to Dirichlet problem for doubly connected domains, nonlinear elliptic problems depending on parameters, on strongly convex functions, as well as applications to some new algorithms for solving general equilibrium problems, inequalities for the Fisher’s information measures, financial networks, mathematical models of mechanical fields in media with inclusions and holes.

Book Pseudosolution of Linear Functional Equations

Download or read book Pseudosolution of Linear Functional Equations written by Alexander S. Mechenov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-11-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book there are introduced models and methods of construction of pseudo-solutions for the well-posed and ill-posed linear functional equations circumscribing models passive, active and complicated experiments. Two types of the functional equations are considered: systems of the linear algebraic equations and linear integral equations. Methods of construction of pseudos6lutions are developed in the presence of passive right-hand side errors for two types of operator errors: passive measurements and active representation errors of the operator, and all their combinations. For the determined and stochastic models of passive experiments the method of the least distances of construction of pseudosolutions is created, the maximum likelihood method of construction of pseudosolutions is applied for active experiments, and then methods for combinations of models of regression, of passive and of active experiments are created. We have constructed regularized variants of these methods for systems of the linear algebraic equations with the degenerated matrices and for linear integral equations of the first kind. In pure mathematics, the solution techniques of the functional equations with exact input data more often are studied. In applied mathematics, problem consists in construction of pseudosolutions, that is, solution of the hctional equations with perturbed input data. Such problem in many cases is incomparably more complicated. The book is devoted to a problem of construction of a pseudosolution (the problem of a parameter estimation) in the following fundamental sections of applied mathematics: confluent models passive, active and the every possible mixed experiments.

Book The Splitting Extrapolation Method

Download or read book The Splitting Extrapolation Method written by C. B. Liem and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The splitting extrapolation method is a newly developed technique for solving multidimensional mathematical problems. It overcomes the difficulties arising from Richardson's extrapolation when applied to these problems and obtains higher accuracy solutions with lower cost and a high degree of parallelism. The method is particularly suitable for solving large scale scientific and engineering problems. This book presents applications of the method to multidimensional integration, integral equations and partial differential equations. It also gives an introduction to combination methods which are relevant to splitting extrapolation. The book is intended for those who may exploit these methods and it requires only a basic knowledge of numerical analysis.

Book Management and Minimisation of Uncertainties and Errors in Numerical Aerodynamics

Download or read book Management and Minimisation of Uncertainties and Errors in Numerical Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Eisfeld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reports results from the German research initiative MUNA (Management and Minimization of Errors and Uncertainties in Numerical Aerodynamics), which combined development activities of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), German universities and German aircraft industry. The main objective of this five year project was the development of methods and procedures aiming at reducing various types of uncertainties that are typical of numerical flow simulations. The activities were focused on methods for grid manipulation, techniques for increasing the simulation accuracy, sensors for turbulence modelling, methods for handling uncertainties of the geometry and grid deformation as well as stochastic methods for quantifying aleatoric uncertainties.
