Book A Data Acquisition Parallel Bus for Wind Tunnels at ARL Aeronautical Research Laboratory

Download or read book A Data Acquisition Parallel Bus for Wind Tunnels at ARL Aeronautical Research Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data acquisition system used by the Subsonic Wind Tunnel at Aeronautical Research Laboratory, Melbourne, was designed in 1972. Tunnel productivity was further improved during 1982 with the installation of a dedicated computer (PDP11/44) which eliminated the time sharing access with the site's central computer. The dedicated computer also provides real-time processing of data and supports graphical displays for interactive operation with wind tunnel tests. In recent years this dedication minicomputer has become unreliable and the high cost of maintenance has led to its replacement with a micro VAX which is intended to be connected to similiar data gathering equipment to that used in the Subsonic Wind Tunnel. A data bus was developed to provide bi-directional communication between the dedicated master mini computer and the numerous microprocessor slave modules which form the new system. Keywords: Australia; Computer hardware; Computer programming and software. (JG).

Book An Economical High Speed Data Acquisition and Processing System for Wind Tunnel Experiments

Download or read book An Economical High Speed Data Acquisition and Processing System for Wind Tunnel Experiments written by E. S. Hanff and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high speed off-line data acquisition and processing system has been developed, specifically designed for intermittent wind tunnel applications including stability derivative measurements. The versatility of the system, however, permits its use in a variety of data acquisition situations. The low cost, computing capability, speed and simplicity of operation make this system particularly attractive for the acquisition and reduction of data at smaller intermittent facilities.

Book COMFRC

Download or read book COMFRC written by Craig D. Edwards and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data acquisition system in the Low Speed Wind Tunnel (LSWT) at the Aeronautical and Maritime Research Laboratory (AMRL) was upgraded recently. A new UNIX based host computer provides a C and X/Motif software development environment. COMFRC is the primary software responsible for the data acquisition, data reduction and storage of data in the LSWT. The operator can follow a test schedule and take data accordingly from a single graphical user interface. The operator can follow a test schedule and take data accordingly from a single graphical user interface. Data and results are displayed in real time during the acquisition process. This document provides details of the new data acquisition system and its operation. The procedures required to configure and carry out an entire wind tunnel test using COMFRC and a suite of associated software packages are described in detail.

Book PDP 11 based System for Meteorological Data Acquisition and Emergency Response

Download or read book PDP 11 based System for Meteorological Data Acquisition and Emergency Response written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Weather Information and Display (WIND) system, a PDP-11/40 computer operating under Digital Equipment Company's RSX-11D system, has been installed at the Savannah River Laboratory. The system assimilates and uses large volumes of meteorological data in research programs on atmospheric transport and dispersion; it also facilitates the assessment of accidental releases of pollutants to the atmosphere. The computer systematically acquires data from meteorological sensors located on a number of towers in and around the Savannah River Plant site (including an instrumented TV tower offsite). These data are checked for accuracy and are used to prepare turbulence statistics and graphical displays of wind fields on a Tektronix scope. The results provide input to a number of meteorological research activities. Programs have also been written to calculate transport and dispersion rapidly and to display the results in tabular and graphical form; these programs improve the basis for making management decisions during an accidental release of pollutants to the atmosphere.

Book Computer Controlled Data Aquisition and Analysis

Download or read book Computer Controlled Data Aquisition and Analysis written by John A. DiMiceli and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer-controlled data acquisition and analysis system was designed, built, and tested. All of the required elements of a complete data acquisition system were assembled, including transducers, amplifiers, signal conditioners, display devices, computer interface, computer, and related software. A digital multiplexer was constructed to multiplex up to 16, 16-bit channels for input into the computer. A computer program was written to bring the various parts of the system together. An experiment, Analysis of an Airfoil by Pressure Distribution, was used as a vehicle to test the system. The final output of the data acquisition system, including graphical information, compared favorably with previous results from an older data acquisition system in use. Keywords: Wind tunnels. Book Data Acquisition System for Unsteady Aerodynamic Investigation

Download or read book Data Acquisition System for Unsteady Aerodynamic Investigation written by Cleveland Duane Englehardt and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the design and implementation of a microprocessor based high-speed digital data acquisition and reduction system suitable for use in time-varying signal analysis as encountered in unsteady aerodynamic investigation. A microprocessor, flexible disk drive and an analog-to-digital conversion module were the main components which were integrated to form a 32 channel, 12 bit resolution data acquisition system capable of 1000 Hz sampling rate and permanently storing over 250,000 bytes of data on magnetic diskette. Subsequent to the data logging process, the same system was capable of serving as a general purpose computer utilizing the popular BASIC scientific programming language. The system was qualified for accuracy and functional performance through a series of controlled exercises, and was then applied to an actual investigative task to further determine its utility and value. Book Facing the Heat Barrier

Download or read book Facing the Heat Barrier written by T. A. Heppenheimer and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonics is the study of flight at speeds where aerodynamic heating dominates the physics of the problem. It is an engineering science with close links to supersonics and engine design. Within this field, many of the most important results have been experimental. The principal facilities have been wind tunnels and related devices, which have produced flows with speeds up to orbital velocity. Why is this important? Hypersonics has had two major applications. The first has been to provide thermal protection during atmospheric reentry. Success in this enterprise has supported ballistic-missile nose cones, has returned strategic reconnaissance photos from orbit and astronauts from the Moon, and has even dropped an instrument package into the atmosphere of Jupiter. The second application has involved high-speed propulsion and has sought to develop the scramjet as an advanced airbreathing ramjet. Atmospheric entry today is fully mature as an engineering discipline, but work with its applications continues to reach for new achievements. Studies of scramjets still seek full success, in which such engines can accelerate a vehicle without the use of rockets. Hence, there is much to do in this area as well.
