Book Cultural Resource Management Guideline Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cultural Resource Management Guideline Classic Reprint written by United States National Park Service and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-07 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cultural Resource Management Guideline As custodian of the national park system, the National Park Service is steward of many of America's most important natural and cultural resources. It is charged to preserve them unimpaired for the enjoyment of present and future generations. If they are degraded or lost, so is the parks' reason for being. Almost every park in the system has cultural resources, the material evidence of past human activities. Finite and nonrenewable, these tangible resources begin to deteriorate almost from the moment of their creation. Once gone they cannot be recovered. In keeping with the nps organic act of 1916 and varied historic preservation laws, park management activities must reflect awareness of the irreplaceable nature of these material resources. Cultural resource management involves research, to identify, evaluate, document, register, and establish other basic information about cultural resources; planning, to ensure that this information is well integrated into management processes for making decisions and setting priorities; and stewardship, under which planning decisions are carried out and resources are preserved, protected, and interpreted to the public. Book Cultural Resource Management Plan Need for the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area Washington

Download or read book Cultural Resource Management Plan Need for the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area Washington written by Bethany G. Oliver and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Abstract: The Sinlahekin Wildlife Area, set aside as a wildlife preserve in 1939 from former Indian allotments and agricultural land, is the oldest state park in Washington. To facilitate management of cultural and natural landscapes in the Sinlahekin Valley, this thesis discusses elements of a cultural resource management plan, outlines compliance standards, analyzes probabilities for precontact site locations, and identifies future planning needs. Chapters includes a comprehensive background review of precontact and historic periods, an inventory of known cultural sites and materials, statistical treatment of site location probabilities, and best management practices recommendations for protection of cultural resources. At present, only 40% of the Sinlahekin Unit has been surveyed, identifying 19 precontact archaeological and 60 historical cultural sites. Further cultural resource management in the preserve will provide a model for applied transdisciplinary research, educational outreach, and adaptive management, and also enhance collaborations between agencies, tribes, and stakeholders across region.
