Book HIV Prevention and Supportive Services for Latina Women

Download or read book HIV Prevention and Supportive Services for Latina Women written by Lizett Morales and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this project was to create a preventative and supportive program for HIV/AIDS, identify a potential funding source, and write a grant application for Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. The proposed program would target Latina women ages 18-55 at risk for infection or who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Several cultural and socioeconomic risk factors were identified that make Latina women vulnerable to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Additionally, HIV-positive Latina women who lack services are more vulnerable to faster progression of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and depression. Latinas Rompiendo Barreras will include a support group for newly diagnosed women, HIV/AIDS educational workshops, and case management services. UniHealth Foundation was identified as a potential funding source for this program. Implications for social work practice are discussed. Actual submission and funding of this grant was not a requirement for completion of this project.
