Download or read book A Cross Section Measurement of Charm Hyperons Xi atop c and Xi 0 atop c in 250 GeV P K pi nucleon Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermilab Experiment 769 used a charge-selected, hadron beam of mean energy 250 GeV/c, composed of pions, kaons, and protons, impinging on beryllium, aluminum, copper and tungsten targets. Using a sample of approximately 4000 [Xi]$-\atop{s}$ 2![Lambda]0[pi]- decays, measurements of the charm baryon forward cross sections times branching ratio [pi]±N 2![Xi]$+\atop{c}$X and [pi]±N 2![Xi]$0\atop{c}$X are presented. Upper limits on [alpha] x BR are also determined for the states [Xi]$+\atop{c}$ 2![Xi]$-\atop{s}$[pi]+[pi]+ and [Xi]$0\atop{c}$ 2![Xi]$-\atop{s}$[pi]+ produced in (p, [pi]+, [pi]-, K+, K- )-nucleon interactions.

Book A Dependence Study of Xi 0 and bar Xi 0 in 250 GeV c pi K nucleon Interactions

Download or read book A Dependence Study of Xi 0 and bar Xi 0 in 250 GeV c pi K nucleon Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A direct measurement of the mass number (A) dependence of the production of the hyperon [Xi]*° and its opposite {bar {Xi}}*° in [pi]−, K− beam-nucleon interactions at 250 GeV/c is reported. The data derive from the experiment E769 at Fermilab. The results were obtained for different targets: Be, Al, Cu and W. It was observed the data are found to be well described by the parametrization [sigma]{sub A} = [sigma]0A{sup [alpha]}, {alpha} being calculated for different beams. The results obtained are compared with those results of E769 experiment. The results shown here are preliminary.

Book The Beauty and Charm Production Cross sections in 250 GeV C Pion Nucleon Interactions

Download or read book The Beauty and Charm Production Cross sections in 250 GeV C Pion Nucleon Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By determining the production cross sections for heavy flavor hadrons, we test the theoretical predictions from perturhative quantum chroma-dynamics (QCD). In the case of pion induced beauty production, the few published results do not resolve the issue of the applicability of perturbative QCD. This analysis is undertaken in order to help resolve this situation. We determine the total beauty and charm production cross sections using an analysis of single electron decay products. We extract the cross sections per nucleon from the two-dimensional distribution of electron p versus impact parameter (d) to the primary vertex. We place an upper limit on the beauty production cross section of [sigma]b$\bar{b}$

Book Cross Section Measurements for Charm Production by Muons and Photons

Download or read book Cross Section Measurements for Charm Production by Muons and Photons written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interactions of 209-GeV muons in the Multimuon Spectrometer at Fermilab have yielded 20072 dimuon final states, with (81±10)% attributed to production of charmed states decaying to muons. The cross section for diffractive charm muoproduction is 6.9{sub -1.4}{sup +1.9} nb. Extrapolated to Q2 =0, the effective cross section for 178(100)-GeV photons is 750{sup +180}130 (560{sup +200}−130) nb, too small to explain the high-energy rise in the photon-nucleon total cross section.

Book Topological Cross Sections and Multiplicity Moments for pi p Interactions at 250 GeV c

Download or read book Topological Cross Sections and Multiplicity Moments for pi p Interactions at 250 GeV c written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data are from a 46,000 picture exposure of the 15-foot hydrogen bubble chamber at Fermilab to a 250-GeV/c $pi$−run. An inelastic cross section of 21.1 +- 0.6 mb was obtained. Topological cross sections and multiplicity moments are presented and compared with results at lower energies. The energy dependence of the mean charged multiplicity, (n), and the second moment, f2, are well fit by a polynomial in log's for $pi$−p experiment from 10 to 250 GeV/c. (auth).

Book Hyperon Production Asymmetries in 500 GeV c Pion Nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Hyperon Production Asymmetries in 500 GeV c Pion Nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a preliminary study from Fermilab experiment E791 of[Lambda][sup 0]/[anti[Lambda]][sup 0], [Xi][sup -]/[Xi][sup+] and[Omega][sup -]/[Omega][sup+] production asymmetries from[pi][sup -] nucleus interactions at 500 Gev/c. The production asymmetries for these particles are studied as a function of x[sub F] and p[sup 2][sub T]. We observed an asymmetry in the target fragmentation region for[Lambda][sup 0]'s larger than that for[Xi]'s, suggesting diquark effects. The asymmetry for[Omega]'s is significatively smaller than for the other two hyperons consistent with the fact that[Omega]'s do not share valence quarks with either the pion or the target particle. In the beam fragmentation region, the asymmetry tends to 0.1 for both[Lambda][sup 0]'s and[Xi]'s. The asymmetries vs p[sup 2][sub T] are approximately constant for the three strange baryons under study.
