Book I m Not High

Download or read book I m Not High written by Jim Breuer and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With his goofy smile, sleepy eyes, and stoner's laugh, Jim Breuer might not appear to be the most introspective comedian out there. The fact that he made his mark playing Goat Boy on Saturday Night Live and a recalcitrant toker in the stoner classic Half Baked doesn't help his reputation at all. But in I'm Not High, we meet a whole new Jim Breuer: the Jim who tours the country with his whole family in tow; the Jim who cares for his ailing eighty-five-year-old father; the Jim who considers himself a deeply spiritual person. I'm Not High reveals the complex man behind the simpleminded persona, bringing to life true stories from a career that has spanned two riotous (yet somehow semi-righteous) decades. Jim dishes on everything from the SNL years to his early adventures in film. The cast of characters in I'm Not High includes Chris Farley, Dave Chapelle, and Tracy Morgan-who all taught Jim lasting lessons about the high-stakes game of fame. He also chronicles the constant role his family has played in keeping him honest. Whether he's arguing with his wife about religion (Is it okay to believe in God but not believe in church?), trying to take care of his kids, or helping his father get through the day with his dignity in tact, it's clear that some of his best material comes from his best moments as a son and a dad and a husband. Heinlein's designation of the last years of the 20th century and contains essays from Robinson's tenure as op-ed columnist for The Globe and Mail and from Galaxy Online. Environmentalists that place the survival of earth before the survival of humanity, the idiocy of computer designs, and the downsides of the Internet are among the subjects Robinson uses to take the world to task.

Book Gone Crazy in Alabama

Download or read book Gone Crazy in Alabama written by Rita Williams-Garcia and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2015-04-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Coretta Scott King Award–winning Gone Crazy in Alabama by Newbery Honor and New York Times bestselling author Rita Williams-Garcia tells the story of the Gaither sisters as they travel from the streets of Brooklyn to the rural South for the summer of a lifetime. Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern are off to Alabama to visit their grandmother Big Ma and her mother, Ma Charles. Across the way lives Ma Charles’s half sister, Miss Trotter. The two half sisters haven’t spoken in years. As Delphine hears about her family history, she uncovers the surprising truth that’s been keeping the sisters apart. But when tragedy strikes, Delphine discovers that the bonds of family run deeper than she ever knew possible. Powerful and humorous, this companion to the award-winning One Crazy Summer and P.S. Be Eleven will be enjoyed by fans of the first two books, as well as by readers meeting these memorable sisters for the first time. Readers who enjoy Christopher Paul Curtis's The Watsons Go to Birmingham and Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming will find much to love in this book. Rita Williams-Garcia's books about Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern can also be read alongside nonfiction explorations of American history such as Jason Reynolds's and Ibram X. Kendi's books. Each humorous, unforgettable story in this trilogy follows the sisters as they grow up during one of the most tumultuous eras in recent American history, the 1960s. Read the adventures of eleven-year-old Delphine and her younger sisters, Vonetta and Fern, as they visit their kin all over the rapidly changing nation—and as they discover that the bonds of family, and their own strength, run deeper than they ever knew possible. “The Gaither sisters are an irresistible trio. Williams-Garcia excels at conveying defining moments of American society from their point of view.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) Coretta Scott King Award winner * ALA Notable Book * School Library Journal Best Book of the Year * Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year * ALA Booklist Editors’ Choice * Shelf Awareness Best Book of the Year * Washington Post Best Books of the Year * The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books Blue Ribbon Book * Three starred reviews * CCBC Choice * New York Public Library 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing * Amazon Best Book of the Year

Book People Can t Drive You Crazy If You Don t Give Them the Keys

Download or read book People Can t Drive You Crazy If You Don t Give Them the Keys written by Dr. Mike Bechtle and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strange as it may seem, other people are not nearly as committed to our happiness as we are. In fact, sometimes they seem like they're on a mission to make us miserable! There's always that one person. The one who hijacks your emotions and makes you crazy. The one who seems to thrive on drama. If you could just "fix" that person, everything would be better. But we can't fix other people--we can only make choices about ourselves. In this cut-to-the-chase book, communication expert Mike Bechtle shows readers that they don't have to be victims of other people's craziness. With commonsense wisdom and practical advice that can be implemented immediately, Bechtle gives readers a proven strategy to handle crazy people. More than just offering a set of techniques, Bechtle offers a new perspective that will change readers' lives as they deal with those difficult people who just won't go away.

Book Once Twice Three Times a Crazy

Download or read book Once Twice Three Times a Crazy written by Chynah Doll and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demarco was still rambling when Jeremy put one hand up in his face in the gesture of talk to the hand and said sharply, Look! I am so tired of this whole scene right now. Are you going to tell her who I really am or do I need to tell her myself? Demarco instantly fell silent, his eyes big as saucers as he looked pleadingly at Jeremy. Hearing Jeremys nasally voice and seeing his suddenly magnified feminine gestures really woke me up with a jolt. Whatever denial I had been experiencing the last few minutes was now gone. I was immediately very aware of the situation that was before me. I looked at Jeremy, then Demarco. I felt my chest start to tighten and my breathing became short and sporadic. I started to back away from them both saying, Nooooo, noooo this cant be, this is not happening! As I repeatedly shook my head no, I could feel the tears falling down my face. I screamed at Demarco, You lied! You lied to me! I asked you if you were gay. You swore to me that you werent, I can't believe this is happening! Like most little girls I always fantasized about my knight in shining armor riding in on his white horse and carrying me off into the sunset. Instead of my dream man I got a down-low gay man, a cocaine-addicted famous rapper and a psycho maniac stalker. Yes, you read right. I know that there are other women out there who can relate because they may have experienced at least one of these situations. It is very rare and next to impossible to find a woman who has gone through all three situations, but I did. This is the true story of my life with these three men. As you read my autobiographical memoir you will see that due to bad judgment, bad decisions and loving the wrong man time and time again my life has had many mind-blowing and incredulous episodes. I hope that through reading my story I save the next woman from inevitable heartbreak and devastation disguised as true love.
