Now, if the Pendukim without the Weight W, be drawn up to the 24th Degree on the Side of E, when you let it go, it will rife to 24 on the* other Side; but if a Person, who holds the String L in his Hand (whilst the Weight W hangs half an Inch above A B C D, when at the lowestPlace) lets go the String just at the moment that the flat Pendulum comes to the lowest Place, the Pendulum receiving thereby an Addition of Matterequal to its own, goes only to 12 on the Side of F. If we let the Pendulum fall from 20 Degrees, and W be let down upon it at the lowestPart of the Vibration, then it will (thus loaded) go but to 10 Degrees i, and when you let it go from 12, if it receives the Weight W at bottom, it will go but to 6.
