Book A Course in Experimental Psychology Vol 1

Download or read book A Course in Experimental Psychology Vol 1 written by Edmund C. Sanford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Course in Experimental Psychology, Vol. 1: Sensation and Perception Most of the experiments are demonstrational in char acter, and aimed at qualitative rather than quantitative results, even when for convenience they have been given a quantitative form. Precautions necessary for results of the latter sort have therefore been lightly touched upon. The setting of the experiments is generally the simplest, and the apparatus the least expensive, that promised satis factory results. That no mistakes have been made, even from these points of view, is more than I can hope. I have been careful in the selection, however, and let the book pass from my hands with the hope that it may prove helpful both to those who have psychological courses to give and to those who shall by and by supplant it by a better one. Book A Course in Experimental Psychology

Download or read book A Course in Experimental Psychology written by Edmund C. Sanford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Course in Experimental Psychology The portion of the course which follows will be found to treat of the senses only, and indeed not fully of them, for it still lacks a chapter upon some of the most interesting experiments in vision. The author's excuse for allowing the publication, even in this modest form, of so incomplete a work, must be the very extraordinary condition of experimental psychology at this time. Many laboratories have been opened, and many teachers of psychology are anxious to give their students the benefit of demonstrations and practice work, and yet there is absolutely no laboratory handbook of the subject to be had. At such a time half a loaf may be better than no bread - at least, so a number of the author's professional friends have seemed to believe; and, since the completion of the whole must be still further delayed, he offers this half loaf. The course as planned consists of two parts: Part I on sensation and perception; and Part II on more complex mental phenomena. Part I needs three chapters more to complete it: Chapter VII, on the Visual Perception of Extent, Distance, Direction, and Motion; Chapter VIII, On the Psychophysic Methods and Weber's Law; and Chapter IX, On Apparatus for the Study of the Senses. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: . Bruce Goldstein's SENSATION AND PERCEPTION, the best-seller which has helped over 150,000 students understand the ties between how we sense the world and how the body interprets these senses, is now in a brilliant full-color Seventh Edition. A key strength of this text has always been the ability to show the student what they are learning through examples and visuals. Now, the book takes this visual learning one step further by using color throughout as a learning tool. As the sole author of the text, Goldstein's singular voice combines with his extensive classroom experience and most innovative research to create a visual text unparalleled in the field. The text walks the student through an intriguing journey of the senses with a mixture of clarity and thoroughness. The accompanying, "Virtual Lab" media exercises (available both on CD-ROM, within the Perception PsychologyNowTM student tutorial platform, and in the online WebTutorTM Advantage product) offer a wide array of animations and examples designed to stimulate understanding of difficult concepts. Every chapter has been updated for currency and readability, and a new chapter six on Visual Attention rounds off this timely revision.
