Before purchasing, the following directions about the different instruments and materials should be noticed. Paper. For all the drawings of this course, use Whatman's Imperial drawing paper. It comes in sheets of convenient size, and is well adapted to the work of the course. Six sheets will be enough up to the time of tinting. Drawing-Board. Great care should be taken to secure a good drawing-board. The best boards are those made of thoroughly seasoned white pine, one inch thick, with cleats at the ends flush with the surface of the board. The most convenient size is twenty-three by thirty-one inches. This gives a small margin outside of a whole sheet of Imperial paper, which is twenty-two by thirty-inches. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Mechanical Drawing and Elementary Machine Design To properly prepare students for advanced machine design it has been found necessary to introduce a course designed to apply the principles of mechanical drawing to the solution of practical problems in machine construction and to familiarize the student with the arrangement and proportions of the most important machines and their details recognized by competent engineers to be the best practice of the present time. It is essential to intelligent study and an economical expenditure of time and labor that, before attempting to design a new machine or improve an old one, the student should post himself with all possible information concerning what has already been done in the same direction. To this end the present work has been prepared. In it we have attempted to show what is the best United States practice in the design and construction of various machines and details of machines, using rules and formulae whenever feasible in working out practical problems. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanical Drawing: Elementary and Advanced A mechanical drawing is used to convey precise information from one person to another. A patternmaker must have a true drawing of an object, giving correct dimensions and instructions before he can make a pattern, from which the foundryman can make a rough casting. The machinist must have a drawing from which he can obtain accurate information to enable him to take the rough casting and by slotting, planing, drilling, grinding, chipping or turning he can produce the finished article as designed by the draftsman. Book Elementary Mechanical Drawing

Download or read book Elementary Mechanical Drawing written by Charles William Weick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Mechanical Drawing: Theory and Practice Mechanical drawing is the art Of exact drawing by means Of drawing instruments Of precision. It differs from free-hand draw ing because it uses instruments and in general aims to reproduce the Object not as it appears to the eye in perspective but in its absolute relations in space. Mechanical Drawing is a generic title; specialized branches Of mechanical drawing are known as architectural drawing, topographical drawing, machine design, etc. The elements which underlie or are involved in the art Of mechanical drawing are: First, The Theory Of Projection; Second, Geometrical Drawing, and Third, Mathematics. The principles Of projection are involved, since we aim to transfer Objects having three dimensions to one plane Of two dimensions (the drawing paper). The difficulty which usually attends the study Of projection will be greatly lessened if a good method Of instruction is followed. It is better, for instance, to begin with simple Objects, than with complex ones. It is better to study minutely each separate detail, rather than several parts at once; studies Of unit details can then be built up to cover the whole Of a complex Object. The student, moreover, Should not be content with one study Of the Object but should make several studies Of the same Object in different positions. He should early acquire the habit Of analyzing, from the draftsman's point Of view, every Object into its parts and details. This power Of analysis once acquired saves time, ensures correctness, and is the secret Of power in the handling Of difficult and unusual problems. Download or read book Intermediate Course in Mechanical Drawing Classic Reprint written by William Henry Thorne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Intermediate Course in Mechanical Drawing The dimension lines and all imaginary lines, or those which do not repre sent parts of the object itself, but serve as bases or lines of reference, or which are necessarily used in the construction of the drawing and the preservation of which would be desirable, should be distinguished from the black lines of the object in such manner as not to interfere nith the clearness of the latter. In other words, the object should stand out boldly and clearly to permit a ready general comprehension of it, while the detailed information concerning it should be kept somewhat in the background. The importance of this is not so appar ent in the drawing of the simple geometrical solids in the following problems, but it is very great in all work of any intricacy.
