Book Electrical Engineering Laboratory Experiments

Download or read book Electrical Engineering Laboratory Experiments written by C. W. Ricker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Engineering Laboratory Experiments If the student taking an electrical engineering laboratory course is required to rely on his own resources, exert his own initiative and do some original thinking, that course will stand out in his memory as one of the few in which he really accomplished the end in view; namely, a natural growth of reasoning power, the power of keen and accurate observation, the ability to analyze and draw conclusions and a knowledge of the fundamentals involved in the construction and operation of electrical machinery. To make laboratory teaching effective, the student should be carefully supervised at the beginning of his course in order that he may learn as rapidly as possible the fundamentals of electrical testing, and use them as his tools for the more advanced work. He should then be assigned work which will require original thinking, and be required to rely more or less upon his own resources. He should be encouraged to hunt up some problem in which he is particularly interested and tackle it as a real research proposition. In this way he will unconsciously exercise his initiative and prefer to rely upon his own resources. During the preparation of this book the writers have had the above philosophy constantly in mind and believe the book to be sufficiently flexible for adaptation to almost any Electrical Engineering Laboratory Course. This book is the result of an extended period of growth and experience. The original notes were written by Professor R. R. Lawrence and published in neostyle form in 1903 for use in the Lowell Institute for Industrial Foremen. These notes were later revised and enlarged by Professor Lawrence in 1907, and again revised and enlarged by him and published in book form in 1914. Professors Lawrence and C. W. Green in 1914 took a portion of the material, revised it and published it for use in connection with the courses in Electrical Engineering Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Book A Short Course in the Testing of Electrical Machinery

Download or read book A Short Course in the Testing of Electrical Machinery written by John Harold Morecroft and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Short Course in the Testing of Electrical Machinery In presenting these brief notes the authors feel that an explanation of their object is necessary. At Columbia University practically all of the engineering students are required to take courses in the electrical laboratories, testing both direct-current and alternating-current machinery. Students in Mining, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, etc., do not have those courses in the theory of electrical machinery, which are really necessary for a proper comprehension of the machines with which they work in the laboratory; it is unreasonable to expect them to consult various text-books to prepare themselves on the theory involved in the tests, and it is with the intention of filling the needs of these men that the notes have been compiled. Before giving specific directions regarding the test to be performed, a brief analysis of the characteristics of the machine is attempted; in so far as is possible in such a limited space the reasons for the behavior of the machine are given. It is, of course, realized that a complete analysis of the different types of machines is impossible and it is questionable whether a complete analysis would serve the purpose. It has been the intention of the writers to present the subject-matter in such a manner that the student not well versed in electrical theory can get he most out of it in the short time allotted to the electrical courses. In some of the tests, methods are described which may not be strictly according to the standard practice; if a gain in simplicity and ease of performance is to be obtained by a sacrifice in accuracy of the test of a few tenths of paper cent, it is thought justifiable to use the simpler method of testing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric motors, transformers, and control systems are used in all modern industries. Knowledge of the characteristics of these will help the electrical engineering technologist keep the wheels of industry turning. This book will give the student a practical introduction to electrical machinery, transformers, and motor control. The experiments have all been used at the Pennsylvania State University, Mckeesport Campus. There, the full series of experiments were done in two semesters. Each experiment requires about two hours of laboratory time. The book is designed to accompany a textbook. As an added feature, the book also has sections on conducting an experiment, laboratory report writing, accuracy, equipment, and motor runaway.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Short Course in the Testing of Electrical Machinery While the notes are being put into printed form specifically for our use, they may possibly be found of use in other schools where the conditions are similar to those at Columbia. The authors wish to express their indebtedness to Professor Geo. F. Sever, who first developed the electrical laboratory work for the non - electrical students at Columbia, and whose original schedule of experiments served as a guide in arranging this work; also to Mr. F. L. Mason, who has rendered valuable assistance in the preparation of the book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: ELECTRIC MACHINERY EXPERIMENTS: Laboratory Practices and Simulation Studies is designed to supplement the text books on electric machines and power electronics related drives to the required extent. It systematically presents a series of experiments covering the syllabus requirements of both under-graduate and post-graduate engineering courses on electric machines. The book mainly covers the experimental aspect, inclusive of simulation study, concentrating on the application of basic concept and theory and associated techniques in arriving at the performances and important parameters of machines. Carefully formulated solved examples will be of assistance to understand the theory related to experiments.

Book Experimental Electrical Engineering and Manual for Electrical Testing Vol 1

Download or read book Experimental Electrical Engineering and Manual for Electrical Testing Vol 1 written by V. Karapetoff and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experimental Electrical Engineering and Manual for Electrical Testing, Vol. 1: For Engineers and for Students in Engineering Laboratories In preparing this book the author has aimed to produce a laboratory manual suitable for general electrical-engineering work such as is covered during the Junior and Senior years in most American colleges of engineering. The experiments described cover the principal types of electrical machinery and auxiliary devices, as well as the most important commercial applications of electricity. Some knowledge of physics is assumed on the part of the student, and at least some elementary practice in a physical laboratory; but, for completeness of treatment several experiments are described recalling to the student's mind the fundamental physical laws of electricity and magnetism in their simpler practical aspects. The arrangement of the book is such as to make each chapter as far as possible independent; in this way the laboratory experiments may be performed in almost any desired order, to suit the equipment at band and the schedule of the class-room exercises. For the same reason cross-references have been avoided as much as possible. Each chapter covers one particular class of machinery or electrical relations; the experiments of the chapter are described in an ascending scale of difficulty or importance. For instance, the chapters on direct-current machines and on alternators are subdivided into (1) operating features, (2) commercial tests, and (3) a more advanced study of the magnetic circuit and armature windings. For easy reference, the experiments in each chapter bear the name of the chapter. Thus, the experiments in the third chapter are numbered: 3-A, 3-B, 3-C, etc. The laboratory schedule can be arranged, if desired, so as to cover all the experiments of a particular chapter in succession; but the author greatly prefers the so-called concentric disposition of the course. In accordance with this method the Junior-year course is made up of elementary experiments selected from nearly all the chapters of the book; the student being thus introduced to the whole domain of electrical engineering. Then during the first term of his Senior year he performs more advanced experiments relating to the same subjects.
