That love has been an inspiration in the writing of both Poetic Expressions and now his autobiography. Larry also managed to take time out of his busy schedule to work with other kids as noted by all his years of coaching baseball and never missing any event that they were involved in, even if he had to leave work early. His love of nature is unequalled. Larrys descriptions have the ability to take you there. Sometimes that love of nature has resulted in butting heads with preservationists as to timberland and renewable resources. This is especially so with them filing lawsuits to stop burnt and diseased timber harvesting. A sense of humor didnt pass him by either as noted in his autobiography again and again, as he says, a man without mirth is akin to a horse without hooves. For both must tread lightly upon the rocky roads of life. To sum it up Larry quotes an unknown author, the rigors of senior years may prove to be very challenging Have we put up a good fight throughout or is it the confusion of genes and how they are inherited to blame?

I was five years old and standing at the end of the kitchen counter next to the black art deco style radio. The announcer was very loud and excited but I didn’t know what he was talking about. My mother was at the other end of the counter standing in front of the kitchen sink washing a dish. All of a sudden she turned off the water and came over to stand in front of the radio. I had never seen a look on her face like that before. She called my dad to come here. Both of them stood in front of the radio with these shocked and unbelieving faces! I never forgot that experience. We next went to Sunday school and church and I remember all of the adults were talking to each other in low tones with stunned looks on their faces.

Book excerpt: About the Book The book provides an account of the author's experiences in the army from October 1942 to September 1945, and, to a substantial extent, a narrative about the operations of the Army Air Force's 404th Fighter Group from the time of its activation early in 1943 to September 1945 the thirty-month interval during which he served in it as a nonflying enlisted man and noncommissioned officer. From April 1944 until V-E Day, the group operated successively from seven bases and strips in England, Normandy, elsewhere in France, in Belgium, and in Germany, with its pilots completing an aggregate of some 30,346 combat hours. For its war activities, it became the recipient of a U. S. Presidential Unit Citation and a Croix de guerre with palm bestowed by the President of France. Each member of the group was decorated with a Belgian fourragere. Of the some 1,000 individuals serving in the group, forty three lost their lives during the months of combat, almost all of them pilots. Though deactivated in November 1945, the unit's survivors have retained ties through periodic reunions and through a newsletter entitled Poop Sheet, which continues to be issued several times a year.
