It is simply a contribution from one who believes it the duty of every one to strive to leave his profession better than he found it. The first edition being out of print, a new one is called for. The instruments herein described have been commended, and widely adopted. It is thought to be no more than right that those who use the writer's supporters should have a clear conception of the inventor's ideas in their employment. I have been pained to learn that some instrument makers have produced my pessaries, or what they call my pessaries, and have left out the very feature I most value. A patent would have protected the instrument; as it is, I must rest the matter simply upon a respectful protest against this naming of bastards after me.
