This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy I omit a general introduction which I had prepared, as on second thought any anticipation of results that are still to be proven, seemed to me objectionable, and the reader who wishes to follow me at all, must make up his mind to pass from the special to the general. On the other hand, some remarks as to the course of my own politico-economic studies may be in place here. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Capital: A Critique of Political Economy; The Process of Capitalist Production The present volume consists, mainly, of the first nine chap ters of Volume I., -of Marx's Capitol, which are now, not for the first time, however, reprinted. These chapters have long been recognized to contain the theoretical part of the Marxian system, in so far as it applies to political economy, i.e., the laws of value surplus - value, and money. Former editions being now out of print, or otherwise unobtainable, it is considered desirable to issue the present book, which is in tended to be used as a text - book for economic classes and the like, as being more convenient to the needs of group - stu dents than the bulky volume of Capital, and, particularly in view of the uniform non-success which has attended the numerous attempts to popularize, or simplify Capital, more desirable than these. The practical application of the theories here expounded must, of course, be studied in the complete work, and in the voluminous post-marxian literature. One thing more: Marx ian economics can be understood only, and should be studied only as forming part of a complete whole - a system - which has been called, not very happily, the Socialist Philosophy. For this reason there has been included the famous 32nd chapter of Capital, and the following extract from the preface to A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, is presented as indicating the manner in which Marx himself approached this problem. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. Book Globalization and the Critique of Political Economy

Download or read book Globalization and the Critique of Political Economy written by Lucia Pradella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of the contemporary global political economy and the significance of the current crisis are a matter of wide-ranging intellectual and political debate, which has contributed to a revival of interest in Marx’s critique of political economy. This book interrogates such a critique within the broader framework of the history of political economy, and offers a new appreciation of its contemporary relevance. A distinctive feature of this study is its use of the new historical critical edition of the writings of Marx and Engels (MEGA2), their partially unpublished notebooks in particular. The sheer volume of this material forces a renewed encounter with Marx. It demonstrates that the international sphere and non-European societies had an increasing importance in his research, which developed the scientific elements elaborated by Marx’s predecessors. This book questions widespread assumptions that the nation-state was the starting point for the analysis of development. It explores the international foundations of political economy, from mercantilism to Adam Smith and David Ricardo and to Hegel, and investigates how the understanding of the international political economy informs the interpretations of history to which it gave rise. The book then traces the developments of Marx’s critique of political economy from the early 1840s to Capital Volume 1 and shows that his deepening understanding of the laws of capitalist uneven and combined development allowed him to recognise the growth of a world working class. Marx’s work thus offers the necessary categories to develop an alternative to methodological nationalism and Eurocentrism grounded in a critique of political economy. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the development of Marx’s thought and in the foundations of International Political Economy.

Book Critical Theory and the Critique of Political Economy

Download or read book Critical Theory and the Critique of Political Economy written by Werner Bonefeld and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2014-05-08 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subversive thought is none other than the cunning of reason when confronted with a social reality in which the poor and miserable are required to sustain the illusion of fictitious wealth. Yet, this subsidy is absolutely necessary in existing society, to prevent its implosion. The critique of political economy is a thoroughly subversive business. It rejects the appearance of economic reality as a natural thing, argues that economy has not independent existence, expounds economy as political economy, and rejects as conformist rebellion those anti-capitalist perspectives that derive their rationality from the existing conceptuality of society. Subversion focuses on human conditions. Its critical subject is society unaware of itself. This book develops Marx's critique of political economy as negative theory of society. It does not conform to the patterns of the world and demands that society rids itself of all the muck of ages and founds itself anew.

Book Thomas Tooke and the Monetary Thought of Classical Economics

Download or read book Thomas Tooke and the Monetary Thought of Classical Economics written by Matthew Smith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-03-07 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive account and reconsideration of the contribution to political economy of Thomas Tooke (1774-1858), classical economist and influential monetary theorist. Its chief purpose is to examine Tooke’s contributions to political economy with the aim of bringing to light its unified nature and its important legacy to contemporary economics. In doing so the book aims to throw new light on monetary analysis within the framework of classical economics. There remains no comprehensive account of Tooke’s contributions that is concerned with showing his lasting and ongoing influence on the development of monetary thought. The book provides an interpretation and analytical study of Tooke’s political economy from the standpoint of the classical tradition. This enables a demonstration of how his constructive contribution throws a new light on monetary thought in this tradition.
