Book Ankara Papers in Turkish and Turkic Linguistics

Download or read book Ankara Papers in Turkish and Turkic Linguistics written by Ufuk Ataş and published by Harrassowitz. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume assembles a wide variety of research papers on phonetics, phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics, as well as language acquisition, discourse analysis, pragmatics, language contact studies, receptive multilingualism, and sociolinguistics. The 58 articles, written specifically for this collection, give an informative overview of the current topics in the field. All papers have been double blind peer-reviewed; thus, the volume reflects the state of the art of Turkish and Turkic linguistics, though without aspiring to the rank of an encyclopedia. The contributions are grouped under the following seven headings: Phonetics & Phonology, Syntax & Morphology, First and Second Language Acquisition, Discourse, Semantics & Pragmatics, Language Contact & Sociolinguistics, Turkic Languages as well as Prospective in Turkic Languages. The volume does not only offer a variety of theoretical linguistic positions but also findings of empirical research based on small or large corpora, (transcribed) production data obtained from L1/L2 language learners (children and adults), and acoustic analysis of speech data. The authors are linguists and turkologists from various Turkish, European, American, and Japanese universities, adding an extensive geographical spread to the wide scope of analyses. The Ankara Papers in Turkish and Turkic Linguistics can be expected to stimulate the interest in the topics investigated and to pave the way to new research arenas in the years to come.

Book A Corpus based Error Analysis of Turkish Learners and the English Verb Phrase

This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,0, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, language: English, abstract: In the thesis at hand, a special emphasis will be on Turkish English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ errors and their difficulties when learning English as a second language. Further, it will provide interpretative approaches regarding the reasons for this. The errors that will be analyzed are subject-verb-agreement errors in different subcategories in Turkish EFL students’ writings in the form of argumentative essays. Furthermore, the essays are analyzed for incorrect verb phrases because of missing verbs, which could be due to the different sentence structures in English and Turkish. The aim is to conduct a corpus-based error analysis in order to investigate and answer two main questions. The first question is, if Turkish EFL students are having difficulties in applying the rules in their essays. The second question deals with the analysis of the error sources to be able to interpret them in order to provide pedagogical implications towards them.

Book The New Template Model and the Phonology Morphology Interface in Turkish The Parametric Hierarchical System and Universal Implications

Download or read book The New Template Model and the Phonology Morphology Interface in Turkish The Parametric Hierarchical System and Universal Implications written by Semra Baturay Meral and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study aims to explain the phonology-morphology interface and phonological processes without referring to extra-phonological objects. We develop a new model of constituent structure based on templates, by which specific morphological categories such as base (root/stem), prefix and suffix become visible in the phonology component: a base is recognizable by its unique constituent structure and is thereby distinguishable from a suffix and/or prefix, each having its own specific constituent structure in phonology. These unique constituent structures are called templates, thanks to which phonological processes and the phonology-morphology interface are non-arbitrarily explainable. 00The New Template Model works with licensing mechanisms and the parameters/sub-parameters occurring under the Parametric Hierarchical System. The model explains the phonology-morphology interface in the case of Turkish, which provides a rich data source regarding phonological processes as it is an agglutinative language with a high degree of suffixation, and also in other languages. 00This book is of interest to phonologists and morphologists interested in Turkish phonology and in the way in which phonology and morphology interact in languages of the world.
