Book The Resin in pulp Process at the Golden Jubilee Mine

Download or read book The Resin in pulp Process at the Golden Jubilee Mine written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Golden Jubilee Mine in South Africa is the first mine in the Western World to introduce resin-in-pulp technology for the recovery of gold from a cyanide-leached slurry. Batch tests were carried out with strong-base resins, and the results were very promising, and pointed to fast kinetics and a high loading capacity. In 1987 a more detailed investigation of the RIP option was carried out, and a pilot-plant was operated for four weeks at Mintek with a continuous countercurrent flow of cyanided pulp and strong-base resin. A decision was taken to convert the metallurgical plant from carbon-in-leach to RIP. This paper describes the Golden Jubilee story; a success story of entrepreneurial spirit in which a small mining company embraced new technology.

Book A Resin in pulp Process for the Recovery of Copper from Bioleach CCD Underflows

Download or read book A Resin in pulp Process for the Recovery of Copper from Bioleach CCD Underflows written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resin-in-pulp (RIP) process was developed primarily for the recovery of metals from high volumes of low-grade pulps, as is the case in the gold processing industry. However, this technology can also be applied to the recovery of soluble metals from solid residues on base metal plants. Applications for the RIP process include the scavenging of valuable metals from leach and precipitation residues, especially where the solids have poor filterability of settling characteristics. The RIP process will improve overall plant recoveries, and it may be possible to decrease the filter duties of the degree of washing on the filters. In addition, the barren stream from the RIP operation may reduce any environmental impact significantly.^L^LBilliton Process Research (BPR) commissioned Mintek to investigate the metallurgical and economic feasibility of a resin-in-pulp process for the recovery of copper from bioleach counter-current decantation (CCD) underflows. Batch laboratory testwork and a continuous mini-plant campaign was conducted in order to optimise the process parameters. The results were used to conduct a preliminary sizing and costing study, in order to evaluate the economic viability of the RIP technology for this application.

Book excerpt: Carbon-in-pulp (CIP) is the preferred method of gold recovery from cyanided pulp. However, the resin-in-pulp (RIP) process is considered to have several advantages for the recovery of gold. Mintek therefore undertook a research programme to develop a commercially-viable RIP process. The MINRIP RIP process and a novel gold-selective strong-base resin, Minix, were developed. An adsorption contactor was identified and successfully demonstrated at a scale of 100000 t/month. Continuous countercurrent tests using synthetic solutions show that the relative performance of the adsorbent depends on the composition of the solution. Minix resin yielded a higher gold loading than that of carbon, while maintaining an acceptable barren value. Batch tests on many gold-bearing materials indicated that Minix has potentially a higher capacity than carbon, and loads gold faster than carbon. An economic appraisal that consolidated the countercurrent results indicated that the capital and operating costs of the MINRIP process are considerably lower than these of CIP. The amount of cost advantage depends on the gold content of the feed and the throughput.

Book Hydrometallurgical Process Fundamentals

Download or read book Hydrometallurgical Process Fundamentals written by Renato G. Bautista and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mineral resources of the industrialized countries, especially the member nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organiza tion, are being depleted at such a rate that more and more of these count ries are beginning to depend on ore imported from other coun tries. To sustain the economic and strategie well-being of these member countries, it becomes imperative that a program of developing and exploiting other non-conventional mineral resources and a con servation program where metal values from waste dumps and scrap metals and alloys are recycled must be initiated and implemented. In order to meet this challenge, new processes and technology must be available for consideration in the design and operation of the new plants. One of the possible routes of extracting the metals from their ores, especially for multimetal complex ores and very low grade ores, is by hydrometallurgical processing. The hydrometallurgical route of metal recovery where dissolution (leaching), separation and concentration (ion exchange, solvent extraction, and membrane separation) and reduction to metal (cementation, precipitation by gaseous reduction, and electrolysis) is carried out at near ambient temperature is becoming more competi tive with the conventional high temperature processes used in the smelting of metals from high grade and beneficiated ores.

Download or read book Uranium Mining in Virginia written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-09-03 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uranium mining in the Commonwealth of Virginia has been prohibited since 1982 by a state moratorium, although approval for restricted uranium exploration in the state was granted in 2007. Uranium Mining in Virginia examines the scientific, technical, environmental, human health and safety, and regulatory aspects of uranium mining, milling, and processing as they relate to the Commonwealth of Virginia for the purpose of assisting the Commonwealth to determine whether uranium mining, milling, and processing can be undertaken in a manner that safeguards the environment, natural and historic resources, agricultural lands, and the health and well-being of its citizens. According to this report, if Virginia lifts its moratorium, there are "steep hurdles to be surmounted" before mining and processing could take place within a regulatory setting that appropriately protects workers, the public, and the environment, especially given that the state has no experience regulating mining and processing of the radioactive element. The authoring committee was not asked to recommend whether uranium mining should be permitted, or to consider the potential benefits to the state were uranium mining to be pursued. It also was not asked to compare the relative risks of uranium mining to the mining of other fuels such as coal. This book will be of interest to decision makers at the state and local level, the energy industry, and concerned citizens.

Download or read book Recent Developments in Ion Exchange written by Peter A. Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Conference Proceedings deal with the papers presented at the International Conference on Ion Exchange Processes (ION-EX '90) which was held at The North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, 9- 11 July 1990. The camera-ready paper format was chosen so that delegates could receive their copy on arrival at the Conference. The Proceedings include reviews of biological materials, inorganic ion exchangers, the nuclear industry, theoretical aspects and new advances. In addition, there are research papers dealing with industrial ion exchange procedures and new materials. The Proceedings should therefore be of interest to those who need to be brought up to date in the various aspects of processes which involve ion exchange and ion chromatography which are now accepted as important in analysis, separation processes and process control. In each of these areas there have been important developments which are herein described. As Editors we should like to express our thanks to the individual authors for preparing their manuscripts in the required format and to Haydn Hughes and Linda Sneddon for their invaluable assistance in compiling these Proceedings.
