Book A Contingent Claims Model for the Valuation of Uninsured Mortgage backed Securities

Download or read book A Contingent Claims Model for the Valuation of Uninsured Mortgage backed Securities written by William L. Jenkins (C.P.A.) and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper develops a contingent claims valuation model for uninsured mortgage-backed securities. In the type of securitization investigated in this paper, credit support is provided internally, with the lower tranches, or layers, providing assurance against loss for the higher tranches. Lower tranches are accordingly assigned lower credit ratings by rating agencies and lower prices as a percentage of par value. The theoretical framework for the model developed in this paper is taken from other contingent claims research, especially relating to the valuation of mortgage-backed securities for which a third-party guarantee is provided. We conclude that the securitization structure described in this paper is effective at preserving the value of the senior and subordinate tranches from risk of loss across a wide range of loan-to-value ratios. The model developed in this paper is provided in an appendix as a program written in Microsoft® Visual Basic for Applications"--Document.

Book The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report

Download or read book The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report written by Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report, published by the U.S. Government and the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission in early 2011, is the official government report on the United States financial collapse and the review of major financial institutions that bankrupted and failed, or would have without help from the government. The commission and the report were implemented after Congress passed an act in 2009 to review and prevent fraudulent activity. The report details, among other things, the periods before, during, and after the crisis, what led up to it, and analyses of subprime mortgage lending, credit expansion and banking policies, the collapse of companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the federal bailouts of Lehman and AIG. It also discusses the aftermath of the fallout and our current state. This report should be of interest to anyone concerned about the financial situation in the U.S. and around the world.THE FINANCIAL CRISIS INQUIRY COMMISSION is an independent, bi-partisan, government-appointed panel of 10 people that was created to "examine the causes, domestic and global, of the current financial and economic crisis in the United States." It was established as part of the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009. The commission consisted of private citizens with expertise in economics and finance, banking, housing, market regulation, and consumer protection. They examined and reported on "the collapse of major financial institutions that failed or would have failed if not for exceptional assistance from the government."News Dissector DANNY SCHECHTER is a journalist, blogger and filmmaker. This book was released on 2019-06-24 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Financial System Stability Assessment paper discusses that Canada has enjoyed favorable macroeconomic outcomes over the past decades, and its vibrant financial system continues to grow robustly. However, macrofinancial vulnerabilities—notably, elevated household debt and housing market imbalances—remain substantial, posing financial stability concerns. Various parts of the financial system are directly exposed to the housing market and/or linked through housing finance. The financial system would be able to manage severe macrofinancial shocks. Major deposit-taking institutions would remain resilient, but mortgage insurers would need additional capital in a severe adverse scenario. Housing finance is broadly resilient, notwithstanding some weaknesses in the small non-prime mortgage lending segment. Although banks’ overall capital buffers are adequate, additional required capital for mortgage exposures, along with measures to increase risk-based differentiation in mortgage pricing, would be desirable. This would help ensure adequate through-the cycle buffers, improve mortgage risk-pricing, and limit procyclical effects induced by housing market corrections.

Book Measuring Systemic Risk Adjusted Liquidity SRL

Download or read book Measuring Systemic Risk Adjusted Liquidity SRL written by Andreas Jobst and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little progress has been made so far in addressing—in a comprehensive way—the externalities caused by impact of the interconnectedness within institutions and markets on funding and market liquidity risk within financial systems. The Systemic Risk-adjusted Liquidity (SRL) model combines option pricing with market information and balance sheet data to generate a probabilistic measure of the frequency and severity of multiple entities experiencing a joint liquidity event. It links a firm’s maturity mismatch between assets and liabilities impacting the stability of its funding with those characteristics of other firms, subject to individual changes in risk profiles and common changes in market conditions. This approach can then be used (i) to quantify an individual institution’s time-varying contribution to system-wide liquidity shortfalls and (ii) to price liquidity risk within a macroprudential framework that, if used to motivate a capital charge or insurance premia, provides incentives for liquidity managers to internalize the systemic risk of their decisions. The model can also accommodate a stress testing approach for institution-specific and/or general funding shocks that generate estimates of systemic liquidity risk (and associated charges) under adverse scenarios.

Book The Collateralised Loan Obligations CLOs a Primer

Download or read book The Collateralised Loan Obligations CLOs a Primer written by Andreas A. Jobst and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following descriptive paper surveys the various types of asset-backed securitisation (ABS) and provides a working definition of so-called collateralised loan obligations (CLOs), which allows issuers to sell large portfolios of commercial loans and their attendant credit risk directly to capital markets. Free of the common rhetoric and slogans, which sometimes substitute for understanding of the complex nature of structured finance, we describe the theoretical foundations of this specialised form of loan securitisation. The paper considers not only the distinctive properties and benefits of CLOs, but also the information economics inherent in the transfer of credit risk, in order to equally privilege the critical aspects of security design affecting the structure of CLO transactions.
