Download or read book Batch Distillation Design And Operation written by Iqbal M Mujtaba and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2004-03-29 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The batch distillation process has existed for many centuries. It is perhaps the oldest technology for separating or purifying liquid mixtures and is the most frequently used separation method in batch processes. In the last 25 years, with continuous development of faster computers and sophisticated numerical methods, there have been many published works using detailed mathematical models with rigorous physical property calculations and advanced optimisation techniques to address several important issues, such as selection of column configurations, design, operation, off-cut recycling, use of batch distillation in reactive and extractive modes, etc.Batch Distillation: Design and Operation presents excellent, important contributions of many researchers from around the globe, including those of the author and his co-workers./a

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 32 (thesis year 1987) a total of 12,483 theses titles from 22 Canadian and 176 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 32 reports theses submitted in 1987, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Download or read book MULTICOMPONENT BATCH DISTILLATION COLUMN SIMULATION AND STATE OBSERVER DESIGN written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diagonal terms of process noise covariance matrix and the diagonal terms of measurement model noise covariance matrix are changed in the range of 50¡1x10¡7 and 0:5¡5x108 and the optimum values are found as 0:00001 and 5000, respectively. The effect of number of measurement points is also investigated with a result of number of component measurements. The effect of measurement period value is also studied and found that it has a major effect on the performance which has to be determined by the available computational facilities. The control of the column is done by utilizing the designed EKF estimator and the estimator is successfully used in controlling the product purities in MBDC under variable reflux-ratio operation.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to offer readers important topics on the modeling, simulation, and optimization of distillation processes. The book is divided into four main sections: the first section is introduction to the topic, the second presents work related to distillation process modeling, the third deals with the modeling of phase equilibrium, one of the most important steps of distillation process modeling, and the the fourth looks at the reactive distillation process, a process that has been applied successfully to a number of applications and has been revealed as a promising strategy for a number of recent challenges.

Book The Simulation of Multi component Distillation

Download or read book The Simulation of Multi component Distillation written by Edward Charles DeLand and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method is proposed for the simulation of multi-component petroleum distillation columns. This method takes advantage of the power of mathematical programming techniques for c mputing the equilibrium states of physiochemical processes. The form l procedure was proposed and developed for other chemical systems, but it is perfectly general, b ing able to incorporate changes of phase, external sources or sinks of mass or energy, and differential equations which describe system dynamics if they are relatively slow with respect to the chemical dynamics. Using a theorem of the mathematician Gibbs, a chemical equilibrium may be defined in terms of the thermodynamic free-energy of each of the components. At equilibrium, the sum of the free energies will be minimized. A free energy (nonlinear) function is define and then minimized under the natural physical (linear) restraints of the system. On the analog computer chosen because of the ease of representing the system dynamics and (nonliion columns by using an analog computer. AR) heat and mass balance equations-the solution m thod is by teepest descent. A digital solution has also been deviseion columns by using an analog computer. . (Author).

Book CHEMICAL PROCESS MODELLING AND COMPUTER SIMULATION

Download or read book CHEMICAL PROCESS MODELLING AND COMPUTER SIMULATION written by AMIYA K. JANA and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2011-11-05 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive and thoroughly revised text, now in its second edition, continues to present the fundamental concepts of how mathematical models of chemical processes are constructed and demonstrate their applications to the simulation of two of the very important chemical engineering systems: the chemical reactors and distillation systems. The book provides an integrated treatment of process description, mathematical modelling and dynamic simulation of realistic problems, using the robust process model approach and its simulation with efficient numerical techniques. Theoretical background materials on activity coefficient models, equation of state models, reaction kinetics, and numerical solution techniques—needed for the development of mathematical models—are also addressed in the book. The topics of discussion related to tanks, heat exchangers, chemical reactors (both continuous and batch), biochemical reactors (continuous and fed-batch), distillation columns (continuous and batch), equilibrium flash vaporizer, and refinery debutanizer column contain several worked-out examples and case studies to teach students how chemical processes can be measured and monitored using computer programming. The new edition includes two more chapters—Reactive Distillation Column and Vaporizing Exchangers—which will further strengthen the text. This book is designed for senior level undergraduate and first-year postgraduate level courses in “Chemical Process Modelling and Simulation”. The book will also be useful for students of petrochemical engineering, biotechnology, and biochemical engineering. It can serve as a guide for research scientists and practising engineers as well.
