Book A Comprehensive Approach to Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

Download or read book A Comprehensive Approach to Stereotactic Breast Biopsy written by Laurie L. Fajardo, MD and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1996-07-17 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive introduction to stereotactic approach to diagnosis of breast disease. Stereotactic biopsy is a new, high-tech tool used by radiologists in the diagnosis of breast disease. The procedure consolidates the best aspects of needle aspiration and radiologic imaging to precisely locate and biopsy a lesion. Radiologists can now view mammary disease in three dimensions as they localize a suspicious spot and extract a minute sample for analysis. The procedure saves time, money and patient discomfort. Stereotactic Breast Biopsy has been developed by three editors and underwritten by LORAD, a manufacturer of imaging equipment

Book Digital Breast Tomosynthesis

Download or read book Digital Breast Tomosynthesis written by Alberto Tagliafico and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive description of the screening and clinical applications of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and offers straightforward, clear guidance on use of the technique. Informative clinical cases are presented to illustrate how to take advantage of DBT in clinical practice. The importance of DBT as a diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis is increasing rapidly. DBT improves upon mammography by depicting breast tissue on a video clip made of cross‐sectional images reconstructed in correspondence with their mammographic planes of acquisition. DBT results in markedly reduced summation of overlapping breast tissue and offers the potential to improve mammographic breast cancer surveillance and diagnosis. This book will be an excellent practical teaching guide for beginners and a useful reference for more experienced radiologists.

Book Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsies

Download or read book Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsies written by Renzo Brun del Re and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-17 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern imaging methods have made it possible to detect breast cancer at an earlier stage than in the past. Nevertheless, a large majority of suspicious findings at screening subsequently prove to be benign. It is therefore important to be able to identify benign lesions in a manner that is reliable, tissue sparing, patient friendly, and cost-effective. More than 70% of breast biopsies can now be performed using minimally invasive procedures that meet these criteria. This book examines in detail vacuum-assisted minimally invasive breast biopsy systems (ATEC, EnCor, Intact, Mammotome and Vacora), stereotactic systems, MRI-guided procedures, and ductoscopy. Further chapters are devoted to the pathology of the breast tissue obtained using these procedures, their limitations, the implications of recent advances in breast imaging, and the results of cost-benefit analyses. The closing chapter provides a systematic review and meta-analysis of recent data.

Download or read book Saving Women s Lives written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-03-18 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outlook for women with breast cancer has improved in recent years. Due to the combination of improved treatments and the benefits of mammography screening, breast cancer mortality has decreased steadily since 1989. Yet breast cancer remains a major problem, second only to lung cancer as a leading cause of death from cancer for women. To date, no means to prevent breast cancer has been discovered and experience has shown that treatments are most effective when a cancer is detected early, before it has spread to other tissues. These two facts suggest that the most effective way to continue reducing the death toll from breast cancer is improved early detection and diagnosis. Building on the 2001 report Mammography and Beyond, this new book not only examines ways to improve implementation and use of new and current breast cancer detection technologies but also evaluates the need to develop tools that identify women who would benefit most from early detection screening. Saving Women's Lives: Strategies for Improving Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis encourages more research that integrates the development, validation, and analysis of the types of technologies in clinical practice that promote improved risk identification techniques. In this way, methods and technologies that improve detection and diagnosis can be more effectively developed and implemented.

Book Mammography and Beyond

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2001-07-23
  • ISBN : 0309171318
  • Pages : 311 pages

Download or read book Mammography and Beyond written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-07-23 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year more than 180,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women in the U.S. If cancer is detected when small and local, treatment options are less dangerous, intrusive, and costly-and more likely to lead to a cure. Yet those simple facts belie the complexity of developing and disseminating acceptable techniques for breast cancer diagnosis. Even the most exciting new technologies remain clouded with uncertainty. Mammography and Beyond provides a comprehensive and up-to-date perspective on the state of breast cancer screening and diagnosis and recommends steps for developing the most reliable breast cancer detection methods possible. This book reviews the dramatic expansion of breast cancer awareness and screening, examining the capabilities and limitations of current and emerging technologies for breast cancer detection and their effectiveness at actually reducing deaths. The committee discusses issues including national policy toward breast cancer detection, roles of public and private agencies, problems in determining the success of a technique, availability of detection methods to specific populations of women, women's experience during the detection process, cost-benefit analyses, and more. Examining current practices and specifying research and other needs, Mammography and Beyond will be an indispensable resource to policy makers, public health officials, medical practitioners, researchers, women's health advocates, and concerned women and their families.
