Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Series of Pamphlets of the Doctrines of the Gospel The labors of the late respected and beloved Orson Pratt, some of whose writings we herewith present to the public, are too well known to require any extended comments from us. His voice has been heard in various parts of the earth bearing a faithful testimony to the truth of the gospel, and in many places where he was never seen, his precious writings have been perused with pleasure and profit by the honest in heart. Thus has his name become familiar and honored among the people of God. In addition to the compilation, as published in 1891, we have placed in this edition an article written by the same author on the Universal Apostacy, being a graphic exposition of the decline and ultimate spiritual darkness of primitive Christianity. Also a beautiful article on the Latter-Day Kingdom, which shows the necessity of laws, subjects, officers and King to establish a true Kingdom of God in the earth. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Salvation by Christ: A Series of Discourses on Some of the Most Important Doctrines of the Gospel Shortly after the appearance of the University Sermons, the publishers desired that the title should be changed, inasmuch as the work was addressed no more to students in college than toinquirers after religious truth in general. I then declined to make any alteration. Of late, however, they proposed that I should modify the volume, in order the better to adapt it to the present state of religious feeling in many parts of our country. I saw that by the course which they suggested, the volume might be rendered more unique, and perhaps more useful. I have. Book excerpt: NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS A Compendium Of The Doctrines Of The Gospel: Compiled By Franklin Dewey Richards, James Amasa Little This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book The Doctrine of Scripture

Download or read book The Doctrine of Scripture written by Brad East and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-27 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Holy Scripture is read aloud in the liturgy, the church confesses with joy and thanksgiving that it has heard the word of the Lord. What does it mean to make that confession? And why does it occasion praise? The doctrine of Scripture is a theological investigation into those and related questions, and this book is an exploration of that doctrine. It argues backward from the church's liturgical practice, presupposing the truth of the Christian confession: namely, that the canon does in fact mediate the living word of the risen Christ to and for his people. What must be true of the sacred texts of Old and New Testament alike for such confession, and the practices of worship in which they are embedded, to be warranted? By way of an answer, the book examines six aspects of the doctrine of Scripture: its source, nature, attributes, ends, interpretation, and authority. The result is a catholic and ecumenical presentation of the historic understanding of the Bible common to the people of God across the centuries, an understanding rooted in the church's sacred tradition, in service to the gospel, and redounding to the glory of the triune God.
