Book A Comparison of the Effects of Oxidation and the Effects of Neutron Irradiation on Graphite

Download or read book A Comparison of the Effects of Oxidation and the Effects of Neutron Irradiation on Graphite written by Gerhart Hennig and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The changes of the electrical properties of oxidized graphite have been compared with the changes produced by neutron irradiation. It has been possible to separate the neutron-induced damage into the damage produced by electron removal and that produced by scattering centers. A model for radiation damage has been proposed.

Book Radiation Damage in Graphite

Download or read book Radiation Damage in Graphite written by J. H. W. Simmons and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Energy, Volume 102: Radiation Damage in Graphite provides a general account of the effects of irradiation on graphite. This book presents valuable work on the structure of the defects produced in graphite crystals by irradiation. Organized into eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the description of the methods of manufacturing graphite and of its physical properties. This text then presents details of the method of setting up a scale of irradiation dose. Other chapters consider the effect of irradiation at a given temperature on a physical property of graphite. This book discusses as well the changes in dimensions produced by irradiation and the effects of irradiation on the mechanical properties of graphite. The final chapter deals with the accumulation of stored energy, which is one of the main problems caused by the irradiation of graphite in nuclear reactors. This book is a valuable resource for physicists and chemical physicists.

Book RADIATION EFFECTS ON THE OXIDATION RATE AND ON OTHER CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF GRAPHITE

Download or read book RADIATION EFFECTS ON THE OXIDATION RATE AND ON OTHER CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF GRAPHITE written by and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irradiation by fast particles changes most physical and chemical properties of graphite by producing various lattice defects such as displaced atoms, vacancies, dislocations, etc. Attempts have been made to evaluate the contributions of different types of defects to the property changes. Such evaluations have proven rather successful for physical properties and will be extended to several chemical properties. Experiments are described which show that oxidation catalysts and inhibitors act differently on irradiated and on unirradiated crystals. The oxidation of graphite crystals in ozone was studied because it appears to provide clues to the enhancement of oxidation rates in the presence of ionizing radiation. The kinetics and mode of attack of -ozone on graphite crystals with or without prior neutron irradiation are described. (auth).

Book The Effect of Neutron Irradiation Damage on the Properties of Grade NBG 10 Graphite

Download or read book The Effect of Neutron Irradiation Damage on the Properties of Grade NBG 10 Graphite written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Block Graphite-10 (NBG-10) is a medium-grain, near-isotropic graphite manufactured by SGL Carbon Company at their plant in Chedde, France. The filler coke is coal tar pitch derived (maximum size ≈ 1.6 mm). The graphite is formed by extrusion and doubly impregnated. The formulation and manufacturing process are based on that of the graphite fuel sleeves used for Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor fuel stringers in the United Kingdom. NBG-10 graphite was developed as a candidate core structural material for the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) currently being designed in South Africa, and for prismatic reactor concepts being developed in the USA and Europe. NBG-10 is one of several graphites included in the United States Department of Energy Very High Temperature Reactor program.
