Book Cognitive Strategy Research

Download or read book Cognitive Strategy Research written by M. Pressley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some time now, the study of cognitive development has been far and away the most active discipline within developmental psychology. Although there would be much disagreement as to the exact proportion of papers published in develop mental journals that could be considered cognitive, 50% seems like a conservative estimate. Hence, a series of scholarly books devoted to work in cognitive devel opment is especially appropriate at this time. The Springer Series in Cognitive Development contains two basic types of books, namely, edited collections of original chapters by several authors, and original volumes written by one author or a small group of authors. The flagship for the Springer Series is a serial publication of the "advances" type, carrying the subtitle Progress in Cognitive Development Research. Each volume in the Progress sequence is strongly thematic, in that it is limited to some well-defined domain of cognitive developmental research (e.g., logical and mathematical development, development of learning). All Progress volumes will be edited collections. Editors of such collections, upon consultation with the Series Editor, may elect to have their books published either as contributions to the Progress sequence or as separate volumes. All books written by one author or a small group of authors are being published as separate volumes within the series.

Book Cognitive Behavioral Interventions

Download or read book Cognitive Behavioral Interventions written by Philip C. Kendall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions: Theory, Research, and Procedures surveys a variety of areas to which cognitive-behavioral strategies have been applied. The various contributors represent some of the major innovators in the field. Each has developed and systematically evaluated programs which apply sound empirically based procedures to cognitive and behavioral phenomena. The opening chapter traces the short developmental history and describes the current professional environment of the cognitive-behavioral movement. The chapters that follow represent major contributions by the leading investigators across a number of areas of intervention. Each chapter describes a summary of research in the respective area, a description of the actual intervention procedures with supporting empirical data, and a consideration of the theoretical foundations and potential implications associated with the intervention. The chapter contents vary across three dimensions. First, the interventions range from those that focus on the acquisition of new capacities to those that deal with the control and modification of existing processes. Second, several chapters focus on adult populations, several on child populations, and some on both. Finally, whereas a number of the chapters deal with problems that have been areas of traditional clinical concern, several others explore new and interesting applications for cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Book International Handbook of Behavior Modification and Therapy

Download or read book International Handbook of Behavior Modification and Therapy written by Alan S. Bellack and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of behavior therapy over the past 20 years has been well doc umented. Yet the geometric expansion of the field has been so great that it deserves to be recounted. We all received our graduate training in the mid to late 1960s. Courses in behavior therapy were then a rarity. Behavioral training was based more on informal tutorials than on systematic programs of study. The behavioral literature was so circumscribed that it could be easily mastered in a few months of study. A mere half-dozen books (by Wolpe, Lazarus, Eysenck, Ullmann, and Krasner) more-or-Iess comprised the behavioral library in the mid- 1960s. Semirial works by Ayllon and Azrin, Bandura, Franks, and Kanfer in 1968 and 1969 made it only slightly more difficult to survey the field. Keeping abreast of new developments was not very difficult, as Behaviour Research and Therapy and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis were the only regular outlets for behavioral articles until the end of the decade, when Behavior Therapy and Be havior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry first appeared. We are too young to be maudlin, but "Oh for the good old days!" One of us did a quick survey of his bookshelves and stopped counting books with behavior or behavioral in the titles when he reached 100. There were at least half again as many behavioral books without those words in the title.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is about shyness: its definitions and conceptualization as a psy chological construct, research on its causes and consequences, methods for meas uring shyness, strategies for alleviating the unpleasant experiences associated with shyness, and its connection to other forms of social anxiety and inhibition. the book together was to provide a resource for The principal goal in putting psychologists from several subdisciplines, most notably social, personality, clin ical, and development13-l psychology, in addition to social scientists from other disciplines. We do riot assume that these chapters, considered collectively or individually, provide answers to every conceivable issue with respect to shyness. Rather, we hope that the book will serve to integrate what is known about shyness on the basis of current research and theorizing and to provide both directions and impetus for continued research, theoretical evolution, and improved techniques of assessment and intervention. But one might ask, why another book on shyness? In particular, why a book at this time given the recent appearance of other books on the topic and in view of the extensive literature on related topics such as introversion and anxiety-topics that would seem to compete with shyness for the same concep tual space? Our decision to edit this volume was prompted by several consid erations, some practical, others more substantive in nature.

Book Advances in Cognitive Behavioral Research and Therapy

Download or read book Advances in Cognitive Behavioral Research and Therapy written by Philip C. Kendall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Cognitive–Behavioral Research and Therapy, Volume 2 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of cognitive–behavioral approaches to psychotherapy. This book presents the developments in the study of cognition, personality, learning, social interaction, and behavior therapy. Organized into seven chapters, this volume begins with an overview of cognitive schemata and cognitive processing as significant theoretical concepts for cognitive–behavioral therapy. This text then provides an analysis of self-mastery and the role of self-schemata in processing therapeutic information. Other chapters provide clinical guidelines for helping clients in changing their self-view and behavior. This book discusses as well the increasing influential role of fundamental cognition and social cognition in cognitive–behavioral interventions. The final chapter deals with the applied developments in the treatment of performance anxiety. This book is a valuable resource for research and applied psychologists. Researchers and clinicians struggling with the interplay of behavior, cognition, and emotion will also find this book useful.

  • Author : Steven Hyman
  • Publisher : Routledge

Download or read book Fear and Anxiety written by Steven Hyman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2001. This is Volume 10 of ten of a series on the science of Mental Health. Originally published in 2001, this study looks at fear and anxiety. During the past decade there has been substantial progress in the understanding of one emotion in particular: fear. There are descriptions of some of the clinical syndromes followed by sections on epidemiology, genetic and environmental risk factors, and natural history (course of illness). Because anxiety disorders so often co-occur with other mental disorders, there is a section devoted to this issue. The volume also includes an article on the evolutionary psychology of anxiety disorders and a long section on brain and behavior that, among other issues, illustrates current attempts to use new insights into fear circuitry in the brain to help investigate the pathogenesis of anxiety disorders. The volume ends with a section on treatment. In some sections there are articles on panic disorder, PTSD, GAD, social anxiety disorder, and, where appropriate, childhood anxiety disorders (which are not always readily separated into their adult forms). Because simple phobias cause relatively little harm or impairment compared with the other anxiety disorders, they are little discussed.
