This book was released on 2008 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study is to compare teacher candidates and first-year teachers by gender and licensure level, in terms of their perceptions of preparation program quality, efficacy beliefs, and concerns about teaching. This study presents findings from an ongoing, state-wide longitudinal project in a large Midwestern state involving all 50 institutions of higher education that prepare teachers. This Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) study provided preservice (n=7503) and inservice (n=1380) survey data, involving perceptions of teacher preparation program quality (Quality), teacher efficacy beliefs (Efficacy), and teacher concerns about their teaching (Concern). Respondents were mostly White (94.4%) and female (78.3%). Overall, they rated Quality and Efficacy high, and Concern somewhat average. A 2*2*3 factorial MANOVA design based on Experience, Gender, and Licensure was used with Quality, Efficacy, and Concern as the dependent variables. Results indicated that all main effects are significant and that there are no second- or third-order interaction effects. Although statistically significant results were found, the effect size in each case was small. In terms of Experience, teacher candidates had higher ratings for Efficacy and Concern compared to first-year teachers, whereas the ratings for Quality were similar. Gender comparisons show that female participants had higher Concern than their male counterparts, but no gender effects were found for Efficacy and Quality. For the Licensure effect, an interesting pattern emerged, namely the lower the licensure grade level, the higher the ratings for Quality and Efficacy. The ratings of Concern were the same across the 3 licensure levels. Future studies might consider the multilevel effects of institution and respondents using Hierarchical Linear Modeling. Also more elaborate subscales related to Quality might be included, such as characteristics of field experience, faculty characteristics.

Book Perceived Teacher Self efficacy in Early Childhood Settings Differences Between Early Childhood and Elementary Education Candidates

Download or read book Perceived Teacher Self efficacy in Early Childhood Settings Differences Between Early Childhood and Elementary Education Candidates written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the degree of perceived teacher self-efficacy between early childhood preservice teachers and elementary education pre-service teachers. There were 88 participants: 44 elementary education pre-service teachers and 40 early childhood pre-service teachers. Participants were mostly white, female pre-service teachers enrolled at East Tennessee State University. Using BanduraÂs 30-item ÂTeacher Self-Efficacy Scale pre-service teachers rated their perceived self-efficacy on 7 subscales: decision-making, influence on school resources, instructional efficacy, disciplinary efficacy, enlisting parent involvement, enlisting community involvement, and creating a positive school climate. Significant differences were found between groups for 3 of the 7 subscales. Early childhood education pre-service teachers reflected higher levels of efficacy in influencing decision making, t(86)=3.36, p

Book A Comparison of Pre service Teachers Perceptions of Self Efficacy Changes Over the Course of the Student Teaching Experience

Download or read book A Comparison of Pre service Teachers Perceptions of Self Efficacy Changes Over the Course of the Student Teaching Experience written by Tammie Todd Patterson and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: This quantitative, quasi-experimental examined 75 pre-service teachers' perceptions of their own self-efficacy with regard to student engagement, classroom, management, and instructional strategies. Data was collected at three different intervals throughout the student teaching experience, which was also accompanied by a training seminar focusing on classroom organization and management (Classroom Organization and Management Program). This research attempted to examine pre-service teachers' views of themselves and their ability to be successful teachers. Results showed that pre-service teachers exhibited significantly higher perceptions of self-efficacy at different intervals throughout their student teaching. Results also confirmed significant differences in perceived self-efficacy by gender, race , and the type of content training received (i.e. subject specific training vs.general training). Data from this study provides Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) with further data, which will allow them to create program curricula and strategies to better prepare pre-service teachers to become successful and confident classroom teachers.

Book An Investigation of Attitudes and Perceptions of Preservice Teachers Compared to First Year Teachers Toward Inclusion

Download or read book An Investigation of Attitudes and Perceptions of Preservice Teachers Compared to First Year Teachers Toward Inclusion written by Nancy E. Douglas and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade the mandated "push" for full inclusion has changed the dynamics of our general education classrooms to the extent that our general education teachers do not feel adequately prepared to teach. The lack of preparation may affect the pre-service teachers' attitude and perception of students with disabilities in a general education classroom. The limited research in this area prompted this study. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional study was to investigate how the perceptions and attitudes of inclusion and teacher efficacy differ from preservice teacher candidates to first year teachers. Preservice teacher candidates (n=40) and first year teachers (n=51) were students or graduates of one university in southeastern United States. The results were determined by using a variety of statistical testing including a one sample t -test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and a one-way ANOVA. The findings indicate that preservice teachers and first year teachers believe in having students with disabilities included in their classrooms, but that belief doesn't extend to being able to manage behavior. It also indicated that self-efficacy is consistent in student teacher candidates and first year teachers, but teacher efficacy is higher in student teacher candidates, with teacher efficacy dropping during the first year of teaching.
