Book Theory and Methods of Optical Pyrometry

Download or read book Theory and Methods of Optical Pyrometry written by Henry J. Kostkowski and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed review of the theoretical methods of optical pyrometry and the application of these methods at the National Bureau of Standards in realizing, maintaining and distributing the International Practical Temperature Scale above 1063 C degrees is presented. In the theoretical presentation, the concepts of effective and mean effective wavelengths are introduced, and various equations relating these parameters to each other and other physical quantities are derived. The important features of precision visual optical pyrometers are discussed and a number of blackbody sources and tungsten strip lamps described. Detailed experimental procedures and results of primary and secondary calibrations of optical pyrometers at NBS are given. Finally, recommendations for achieving high precision and accuracy and the fundamental limitations in visual optical pyrometry are presented.(Author).

Book Materials and Thermodynamics

Download or read book Materials and Thermodynamics written by Pierre Delhaes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thermodynamic system is defined according to its environment and its compliance. This book promotes the classification of materials from generalized thermodynamics outside the equilibrium state and not solely according to their chemical origin. The author goes beyond standard classification of materials and extends it to take into account the living, ecological, economic and financial systems in which they exist: all these systems can be classified according to their deviation from an ideal situation of thermodynamic equilibrium. The concepts of dynamic complexity and hierarchy, emphasizing the crucial role played by cycles and rhythms, then become fundamental. Finally, the limitations of the uniqueness of this description that depend on thermodynamic foundations based on the concepts of energy and entropy are discussed in relation to the cognitive sciences.

Book The Great Climate Change Debate Karoly vs Happer

Download or read book The Great Climate Change Debate Karoly vs Happer written by Andy May and published by Andy May Petrophysicist LLC. This book was released on 2022-09-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: February 15, 2016 was the beginning of a debate on man-made climate change between two well-known experts in the field, Dr. William Happer and Dr. David Karoly, hosted by James Barham and his team at TheBestSchools.org. Both have been heavily involved in atmospheric research since the 1980s. Happer believes that burning fossil fuels will have a minimal effect on climate but a large benefit to plant life and humanity. Karoly believes the opposite. How certain is the conclusion by some scientists that burning fossil fuels will lead to a climate disaster? Only debates can ferret out their certainty or lack of it. Burning fossil fuels may cause some harm, but if we stop burning them, we will face certain harm. Which is worse? Debates educate the public, they are necessary. This is an in-depth look at both sides of the debate between two prominent experts.

Book Study Simulation of Oceanographic and Geophysical Space sensor Displays

Download or read book Study Simulation of Oceanographic and Geophysical Space sensor Displays written by David T. Chang and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed analyses have been performed of the factors which affect the acquisition of geophysical data by earth-oriented satellites. These factors include geophysical, instrumental, and display. Based on these analyses, techniques for the simulation of satellite data and for the training of personnel participating in satellite geophysics are discussed. Devices useful for training have been conceptually designed. In particular, the design and use of an APT (Automatic Picture Transmission) simulator trainer are analyzed in detail. (Author).
