Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Workers Participation at Plant Level written by Stefan Berger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprising the study, documentation, and comparison of plant-level workers’ participation around the world, this volume meets the challenge of offering a global perspective on workers’ participation, representation, and models of social partnership. Value chains, economic life, inter-cultural exchange and knowledge, as well as the mobility of persons and ideas increasingly cross the borders of nation-states. In the knowledge age, the active participation of workers in organizations is crucially important for sustainable and long-term growth and innovation. This handbook offers lessons from historical, global accounts of workers’ participation at plant level, even as it looks forward to predict forthcoming trends in participation.

Book Models of Employee Participation in a Changing Global Environment

Download or read book Models of Employee Participation in a Changing Global Environment written by Ray Markey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. Management of the employment relationship changed markedly in the last two decades of the 21st century, and a major part of this has been the extension of employee involvement and participation in the workplace. Modern management theorists and researchers have commonly emphasized the importance of two-way communication and co-operation between management and labour in determining the success of human resource management (HRM) strategy and in maximizing workplace efficiency. Some researchers argue employee participation and empowerment are progressive management practices which have universal benefits to performance enhancement, as opposed to most other HRM practices whose success is contingent upon the organizational context. This title explores these themes through an international collection of case studies, which are the outcome of a comparative project of the Workers' Participation Study Group of the International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA).

Book The Oxford Handbook of Participation in Organizations

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Participation in Organizations written by Adrian Wilkinson and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-02-18 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee participation encompasses the range of mechanisms used to involve the workforce in decisions at all levels of the organization - whether direct or indirect - conducted with employees or through their representatives. In its various guises, the topic of employee participation has been a recurring theme in industrial relations and human resource management. One of the problems in trying to develop any analysis of participation is that there is potentially limited overlap between these different disciplinary traditions, and scholars from diverse traditions may know relatively little of the research that has been done elsewhere. Accordingly in this book, a number of the more significant disciplinary areas are analysed in greater depth in order to ensure that readers gain a better appreciation of what participation means from these quite different contextual perspectives. Not only is there a range of different traditions contributing to the research and literature on the subject, there is also an extremely diverse sets of practices that congregate under the banner of participation. The handbook discusses various arguments and schools of thought about employee participation, analyzes the range of forms that participation can take in practice, and examines the way in which it meets objectives that are set for it, either by employers, trade unions, individual workers, or, indeed, the state. In doing so, the Handbook brings together leading scholars from around the world who present and discuss fundamental theories and approaches to participation in organization as well as their connection to broader political forces. These selections address the changing contexts of employee participation, different cultural/ institutional models, old/'new' economy models, shifting social and political patterns, and the correspondence between industrial and political democracy and participation.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the context of industries the programmes of workers' participation in management has been introduced in different countries. It is observed that much hopes have been pinned on the various form of workers' participation .But unfortunately some methods, forms and machinaries have not laid foundation for cordial industrial relations as suggested by Fisher (Waldo, 1961). Consequently, the governments of various countries have introduced various forms and laid great emphasis on the workers' participation. The study has thrown light on various important and interesting aspects regarding the present system of workers' participation. The practice of workers participation has not produced substantial results. The success of all models depends on the sincere approach of both managements and workers and trade unions. Mere formality would make only window dressing without any impact on industrial harmony. Thus a good industrial relations system should insure a close co-operation and mutual recognition of workers and management. It is evident in this article. A comparative analysis of the international experience with reference to various countries have proved that it is a long journey tom go for attaining a cordial industrial relations scene.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores whether and how workplace democracy mechanisms such as social dialogue, co-determination and Works Councils can improve corporate financial governance and compliance with anti-corruption regulations in companies. The paper compares two key Works Council models in Europe - those of Germany and France. It then discusses some of the challenges that present themselves to companies in the context of a globalized economy, focusing on examples of failures of corporate governance at prominent German and French companies. Finally, the paper analyzes the corporate governance failures, assesses the role of, and makes suggestions as to how Works Councils can contribute to the improvement of corporate governance culture. The paper also explores the advisability of adding financial corporate governance to the already large range of issues currently under the purview of Works Councils in Germany and France.
