Download or read book Finding What Works in Health Care written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-07-20 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healthcare decision makers in search of reliable information that compares health interventions increasingly turn to systematic reviews for the best summary of the evidence. Systematic reviews identify, select, assess, and synthesize the findings of similar but separate studies, and can help clarify what is known and not known about the potential benefits and harms of drugs, devices, and other healthcare services. Systematic reviews can be helpful for clinicians who want to integrate research findings into their daily practices, for patients to make well-informed choices about their own care, for professional medical societies and other organizations that develop clinical practice guidelines. Too often systematic reviews are of uncertain or poor quality. There are no universally accepted standards for developing systematic reviews leading to variability in how conflicts of interest and biases are handled, how evidence is appraised, and the overall scientific rigor of the process. In Finding What Works in Health Care the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends 21 standards for developing high-quality systematic reviews of comparative effectiveness research. The standards address the entire systematic review process from the initial steps of formulating the topic and building the review team to producing a detailed final report that synthesizes what the evidence shows and where knowledge gaps remain. Finding What Works in Health Care also proposes a framework for improving the quality of the science underpinning systematic reviews. This book will serve as a vital resource for both sponsors and producers of systematic reviews of comparative effectiveness research.

Download or read book Action Research written by Jeffrey Glanz and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Action Research: An Educational Leader’s Guide to School Improvement, Third Edition, is a clear and practical guide to conducting action research in schools. Although it offers neither a cookbook nor a quick-fix approach, this book does outline the process of designing and reporting an action research project. Useful as a classroom text as well as a self-teaching tool, Action Research: An Educational Leader’s Guide to School Improvement is a comprehensive training manual. It can be used by practitioners in the field, by graduate students enrolled in leadership and/or master’s thesis courses, or by anyone interested in learning how to conduct action research projects, including classroom teachers ,who are leaders too in their own right. The strategies and techniques of action research described are no different for teachers than they are for administrators. The underlying assumption of this work is that research is not a domain only for academics, it is also a powerful approach that can be used by practitioners to contribute to school renewal and instructional improvement. Rather than being merely a philosophical treatise or theoretical analysis, Action Research provides concrete strategies and techniques for conducting action research in schools.
Download or read book Not Grown Up Forever written by Ching Man Lam and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a Chinese conception of adolescent development, which is a model that incorporates culture and migration as two essential components of its framework. This framework is based on the notion that there is a dynamic interplay between culture and migration in Chinese immigrant families that contributes to adolescent development. In the specific migration context, indigenous Chinese notions are reinforced and intensified; these notions thus develop particular meanings and contribute distinctive themes to both the processes and outcomes of adolescent development. The Chinese conception of adolescent development the author proposes acknowledges the unique experiences of Chinese immigrants, takes account of the personal meaning of parents and adolescents, and incorporates ideas from Chinese culture.
Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Comparative Policy Analysis written by Marleen Brans and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook presents the first comprehensive study of policy analytical practices in comparative perspective. It explores emerging developments and innovations in the field and advances knowledge of the nature and quality of policy analysis across different countries and at different levels of government by all relevant actors, both inside and outside government, who contribute to the diagnosis of problems and the search for policy solutions. Handbook chapters examine all aspects of the science, art and craft of policy analysis. They do so both at the often-studied national level, and also at the less well-known level of sub-national and local governments. In addition to studying governments, the Handbook also examines for the first time the practices and policy work of a range of non-governmental actors, including think tanks, interest groups, business actors, labour groups, media, political parties and non-profits. Bringing together a rich collection of cases and a renowned group of scholars, the Handbook constitutes a landmark study in the field.

Download or read book A Comparative Analysis of German and Australian Climate Change Coverage in Quality Newspapers written by Lena Birkenfeld and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2010, Germany and Australia had to deal with extreme floods. Was climate change considered as cause of these weather events in the media? In 2009, a conservative alliance committed to tackle climate change won the German election. In 2007, the Australian Labor Party claimed that “climate change is the greatest moral challenge of our time” and won the election. But how was climate change covered by the media in the context of these two elections? This work answers these two questions comparing the climate change coverage of two German and two Australian quality newspapers (n = 1.012 articles). As theoretical foundation Entman’s (1993) framing approach and the “Extended Sphere Model”, which provides a framework for the explanation of the differences in the coverage, were applied. With a hierarchical cluster analysis seven frames were identified. Moreover, six actor groups were differentiated and possible influencing factors were compiled. The results show that the differences in terms of climate change coverage in quality newspapers are rather low between the two countries. Some of the observed differences could be explained by the proposed model. But the most striking results are certainly the similarities in the coverage. Common media standards in terms of climate change coverage could, however, not be identified in this work.
Download or read book Health System Efficiency written by Jonathan Cylus and published by Health Policy. This book was released on 2016-12-15 with total page 264 pages. Book excerpt: In this book the authors explore the state of the art on efficiency measurement in health systems and international experts offer insights into the pitfalls and potential associated with various measurement techniques. The authors show that: - The core idea of efficiency is easy to understand in principle - maximizing valued outputs relative to inputs, but is often difficult to make operational in real-life situations - There have been numerous advances in data collection and availability, as well as innovative methodological approaches that give valuable insights into how efficiently health care is delivered - Our simple analytical framework can facilitate the development and interpretation of efficiency indicators.
