Book A Collection of Poetry Prose from Survivors of Abuse

Download or read book A Collection of Poetry Prose from Survivors of Abuse written by Barbara E. Kompik and published by . This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was in the middle of my own struggling and suffering that I found that a MySpace.com group could actually bring healing to others and me as I started my own group, "Healing from Abuse". Many came to listen as I shared my own story. Many came to share theirs. The group grew to over 2000 members in a few short years and we all became friends through our common pain. For many, it was the only place that they could share what had happened to them and vent their feelings and emotions. It became a refuge where we as a family of survivors of abuse could come together and support each other, encourage each other, and bring some sort of semblance of peace and contentment to our broken spirits and turmoil. In sharing information about abuse, people learned what they thought was normal was actually the aftereffects of unspeakable acts of violence and control. We learned together, and many were healed to the point that they didn't need the support of the group any longer to keep them from the depths of their depression. They could move on, lives more peaceful than when they arrived.

Download or read book Reaching for the Dawn written by Christine Power and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-21 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of poetry, prose, and short stories inspired by the challenges and victories in the life of a survivor of child sexual abuse. What happened was not your fault and it did not change your value as a human - as a woman. You cannot change the past but you can change the future by separating yourself from the past. Try it through writing - start now with the first page. Promise yourself that you will not let him ruin one more day of your life - he has taken enough. Sadly, I know there are countless people out there who had fathers that sexually abused his children (boys and girls) and who, sickly and selfishly, called it love. Reading your poetry could have an incredible effect on those who have suffered such terrifying experiences. They would be touched and relieved to know they are not alone. As sad and dark as some of your poems are, they also reveal incredible strength, courage, and self-preservation. It could give many people, who are barely hanging on, a glimpse of hope and inspiration. And opening your heart to others could be healing for you as well. Remember - it's you- your strength - your persistence and drive to keep going; it's you who chooses life because deep inside you know there could be wonders around the next corner. It's time to reclaim your health - your life - your soul - your future.

With every purchase of this book one survivor gets a copy. Isn't this a wonderful way to pass the love around! Book excerpt: This collection is more than a series of stories in poetry and prose; it is written with my tears as I have held my friends and sometimes rocked and hugged my own knees to my chest. The purpose of this project is to give voice to victims of sexual abuse. Some of the poems are reflections of my own experiences; some are from contributors who will remain anonymous. It is my goal to be the voice of these victims, allowing them to share their stories in a safe way and letting other abuse survivors know that they are not alone. It is my hope that it will help people find their own way to express their pain, grieve what they've lost, and heal.

Book excerpt: Throughout my years of silently experiencing sexual abuse, I was incredibly drawn to the creative arts: poetry books, art and music pulled me through some of my darkest days on earth and I wanted to create something specific for survivors like I always wished for growing up. I intended for this book to be so undeniably beautiful (with artwork from my childhood until now) that anyone in society could pick it up to flick through, learn from and cherish a copy to refer to for the rest of their lives. My dream is for this book to become part of school curriculum taught so we can learn about trauma and recovery from a young age. Are you becoming aware of the traumas in your life holding you back? Does trauma recovery feel daunting? Would you like a beautifully designed and illustrated poetry book to guide you through the process to empowerment? ***BUY + CHERISH YOUR OWN COPY OF "BAGS OF PAIN" TODAY***A Lifetime Collection of Poetry + Artwork by a Thamizh Survivor of Sexual Abuse Designed to provide you: A beautiful journey through trauma recovery + empowerment A back-and-forth exploration of the 5 stages of grief The autobiographical life story of a survivor of sexual abuse A shoulder to lean on for all survivors of sexual abuse + trauma An education for society in order to support survivors more effectively An honest reflection of the struggles of the Thamizh diaspora With citations and references to expert research + publications Blurb: "Join me as I walk you through my life. I've carefully selected puzzle pieces from across the years + placed them in a particular order. But not chronologically. Instead, a poem from earlier in my life speaks to another poem written years later. Placed side by side. Like a conversation between 2 survivors at different stages of their healing journey lending each other a hand. I hope this book becomes a kind shoulder for survivors to lean on + society to learn from." - Dharshana Navendren Profile of Author/Poet/Artist by kind friend, Mayuri Thiraviyanathan: "Dharshana is intelligent, kind and passionate about her work. Having gone through various stages in life and the adversities that she faced, I am always in awe when I see her strength and courage. She stands strong in her passion to support survivors, which I believe is an incredible + important mission. @Thangam_We_Are_Gold: her work to provide a safe platform for survivors has been ground-breaking, as I had never come across a social media handle where a survivor unapologetically expresses through music and arts. She utilises her creativity to raise awareness and provide comfort to fellow survivors by sharing her journey. It is comforting to know that we have shared experiences and most importantly: we do not have to go through them alone! She takes pride in her Thamizh identity and has a willingness to give back in whatever way possible. She is a great friend, cheerleader, and ally. Amidst the pressures of needing to be the 'perfect' Thamizh woman defined by society, it is refreshing to meet people in life who bravely defy those expectations and choose to be their true authentic self. Dharshana, thank you for being a breath of fresh air and inspiring me in my journey." - Mayuri Thiraviyanathan

Book Dear Sister

Download or read book Dear Sister written by Lisa Factora-Borchers and published by AK Press. This book was released on 2014-02-03 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Sister, It wasn't your fault; it was never your fault. You did nothing wrong. Hold this tight to your heart: it wasn't your fault. At night when you lay there and your mind fills with images and you wonder if only, if you had . . . if you hadn't . . . . Remember: it wasn't your fault. Dear Sister highlights the lessons, memories, and vision of over forty artists, activists, mothers, writers, and students who share a common bond: they are survivors of sexual violence. Written in an epistolary format, this multi-generational, multi-ethnic collection of letters and essays is a moving journey into the hearts and minds of the survivors of rape, incest, and other forms of sexual violence, written directly to and for other survivors. Dear Sister goes far beyond traditional books about healing, which often use "experts" to explain the experience of survivors for the rest of the world. Where other books about rape weave the voices of feminists and activists together and imagine what a world without violence might look like, Dear Sister describes the reality of what the world looks like through the eyes of a survivor. From a professor in the Midwest to a poet in Belgium, an escapee from a child prostitution ring, a survivor advocate in the Congo, and a sex worker in San Francisco, Dear Sister touches on issues of feminism, love, disability, gender, justice, identity, and spirituality. Lisa Factora-Borchers is a Filipina writer and editor whose work has been published in make/shift, Bitch, Left Turn, and Critical Moment. Book A Victims X Survivor s Diary Book of Poetry

Download or read book A Victims X Survivor s Diary Book of Poetry written by Lisa Pearson and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A diary of anguish and survival for the battered and abused. Tails of embracing the ghosts of our past that keep lasting grips on our bones. A stoutheartedness that births from facing the most difficult emotional, mental, physical, and darkest abuses most cannot fathom. This book is an unlocked chest of wounds that is another’s shame to bear, not mine. Tangled secrets kept that should be a beacon of light to guide others in the fight of their lives. Mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression are merely a design of cruel burdensome oppression inflicted on innocence. I have laid bare my scars on these pages as a gift for others so that they too may free their afflictions on strengthened wings of fortitude. For all the survivors out there that were strong enough to let it all go and those still searching for courage to release their lacerations of torment.
