Download or read book A Collaborative Child Abuse Education Program for Long Beach Community A Grant Proposal Project written by Rosalinda Navarro-Montejano and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project was to design an effective program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a child abuse education program to decrease child abuse and increase reporting of suspected child abuse in the city of Long Beach, California. A literature review increased knowledge about the problem of child abuse, risk factors and provided information about evidence-based child abuse prevention programs that the grant writer then used to design an effective program. A search for potential funding sources via the Internet and grant databases resulted in the selection of The Community Program of John S. and James L. Knight foundation as the best funding source for this project. A grant was then written to support a child abuse prevention program to be implemented by For The Child at Long Beach Unified School District schools and surrounding community programs that serve children.

The city of Compton in Los Angeles County is stricken with poverty, systemic and economic challenges that often impact the daily living of families and the ability of the communities to thrive. It has been evidenced that child maltreatment contributes to disruptions in family dynamics and community relationships. To counteract these rates of maltreatment, an innovative community program was proposed, which focused on fostering positive family relationships and increasing social supports through effective community engagement to reduce transgenerational child maltreatment. The goal of this project is to increase interactions and social supports for children and families by providing a variety of activities and resources within their community.
