Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Clumsy Encounter offers an interrogation of inclusive education by exploring the point at which dyspraxia and drawing from observation meet within formal learning environments. Drawing on stories of individual experience, this book seeks to promote the interrogation of implicit educational practices. Here the complexity of observational drawing is examined not within a closed community of art education but within the social and cultural domain of other critical debates within education, specifically those related to inclusion. Pupils do not experience inclusion and exclusion in the abstract but through discipline-based and situated practices. This book aims to explore this complexity and disrupt approaches that might seek to rationalise and compartmentalise educational experience. A Clumsy Encounter reflects a cross-disciplinary perspective and will be of interest to academics, professionals and practitioners interested in the nature, role and value of art education as well as those with a particular interest in dyspraxia. It will also be of particular relevance to those concerned with hearing the voices of pupil experience of inclusive and exclusive educational practices.

Book Call Me Clumsy

Download or read book Call Me Clumsy written by Matthew Weinrich and published by eLectio Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02-10 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are about to embark on a truly weird, interesting, and entertaining experience... So begins the “odyssey of awkwardness” that is Call Me Clumsy, the my-life-so-far memoir of Matthew Weinrich. Through utterly humbling experiences that span the decades of his life, Weinrich provides anecdotes that are equally cringe-inducing and laugh-out-loud funny. From his experience as a consummate slacker to his marriage proposal gone horribly awry to an unfortunate run-in with the fine men and women of the TSA, Weinrich brings you along as he strolls down memory lane, for better or for worse. Ultimately, Weinrich gives us a heart-warming picture of the humility of a child of God who knows, without a doubt, that the old adage applies to him: God is God, and I am not... ...not even close.

Book Economies of Collaboration in Performance

Download or read book Economies of Collaboration in Performance written by Karen Savage and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about collaboration in the arts, which explores how working together seems to achieve more than the sum of the parts. It introduces ideas from economics to conceptualize notions of externalities, complementarity, and emergence, and playfully explores collaborative structures such as the swarm, the crowd, the flock, and the network. It uses up-to-date thinking about Wikinomics, Postcapitalism, and Biopolitics, underpinned by ideas from Foucault, Bourriaud, and Hardt and Negri. In a series of thought-provoking case studies, the authors consider creative practices in theatre, music and film. They explore work by artists such as Gob Squad, Eric Whitacre, Dries Verhoeven, Pete Wyer, and Tino Seghal, and encounter both live and online collaborative possibilities in fascinating discussions of Craigslist and crowdfunding at the Edinburgh Festival. What is revealed is that the introduction of Web 2.0 has enabled a new paradigm of artistic practice to emerge, in which participatory encounters, collaboration, and online dialogue become key creative drivers. Written itself as a collaborative project between Karen Savage and Dominic Symonds, this is a strikingly original take on the economics of working together.

Book Venice and the Slavs

    Book Details:
  • Author : Larry Wolff
  • Publisher : Stanford University Press
  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 9780804739467
  • Pages : 430 pages

Download or read book Venice and the Slavs written by Larry Wolff and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the nature of Venetian rule over the Slavs of Dalmatia during the eighteenth century, focusing on the cultural elaboration of an ideology of empire that was based on a civilizing mission toward the Slavs. The book argues that the Enlightenment within the “Adriatic Empire” of Venice was deeply concerned with exploring the economic and social dimensions of backwardness in Dalmatia, in accordance with the evolving distinction between “Western Europe” and “Eastern Europe” across the continent. It further argues that the primitivism attributed to Dalmatians by the Venetian Enlightenment was fundamental to the European intellectual discovery of the Slavs. The book begins by discussing Venetian literary perspectives on Dalmatia, notably the drama of Carlo Goldoni and the memoirs of Carlo Gozzi. It then studies the work that brought the subject of Dalmatia to the attention of the European Enlightenment: the travel account of the Paduan philosopher Alberto Fortis, which was translated from Italian into English, French, and German. The next two chapters focus on the Dalmatian inland mountain people called the Morlacchi, famous as “savages” throughout Europe in the eighteenth century. The Morlacchi are considered first as a concern of Venetian administration and then in relation to the problem of the “noble savage,” anthropologically studied and poetically celebrated. The book then describes the meeting of these administrative and philosophical discourses concerning Dalmatia during the final decades of the Venetian Republic. It concludes by assessing the legacy of the Venetian Enlightenment for later perspectives on Dalmatia and the South Slavs from Napoleonic Illyria to twentieth-century Yugoslavia.

Book Making Sense of the Intercultural

Download or read book Making Sense of the Intercultural written by Adrian Holliday and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we wish to find a new way of talking about, connecting and operationalising the third space, narratives, positioning, and interculturality. Our purpose is to shake established views in what we consider to be an urgent quest for dealing with prejudice. We therefore seek to draw attention to the following: How Centre structures and large culture boundaries are sources of prejudice How deCentred intercultural threads address prejudice by dissolving these boundaries How, in everyday small culture formation on the go, the cultural and the intercultural are observable and become indistinguishable How agency, personal and grand narratives, discourses, and positioning become visible in unexpected ways How we researchers also bring competing narratives in making sense of the intercultural How third spaces are discordant and uncomfortable places in which all of us must struggle to achieve interculturality This book is therefore a journey of discovery with each chapter building on the previous ones. While throughout there are particular empirical events (interviews, reconstructed ethnographic accounts and research diary entries) with their own detailed analyses and insights, they connect back to discussion in previous chapters.
