Book Symmetry Representation Theory and Its Applications

Download or read book Symmetry Representation Theory and Its Applications written by Roger Howe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-04 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nolan Wallach's mathematical research is remarkable in both its breadth and depth. His contributions to many fields include representation theory, harmonic analysis, algebraic geometry, combinatorics, number theory, differential equations, Riemannian geometry, ring theory, and quantum information theory. The touchstone and unifying thread running through all his work is the idea of symmetry. This volume is a collection of invited articles that pay tribute to Wallach's ideas, and show symmetry at work in a large variety of areas. The articles, predominantly expository, are written by distinguished mathematicians and contain sufficient preliminary material to reach the widest possible audiences. Graduate students, mathematicians, and physicists interested in representation theory and its applications will find many gems in this volume that have not appeared in print elsewhere. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume resulted from the Tenth International Conference on Representations of Algebras and Related Topics held at The Fields Institute (Toronto, ON, Canada). The collection of research and survey articles, honoring Vlastimil Dlab's seventieth birthday, reflects state-of-the-art research on the topic. Leading experts contributed papers, demonstrating the interaction between representation theory of finite dimensional algebras and neighboring subjects. A wide range of topics are covered, including quantum groups, the theory of Lie algebras, the geometry and combinatorics of tilting theory, commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, homology theories, and derived and triangulated categories. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in the theory of algebras.

Book Projective Duality and Homogeneous Spaces

Download or read book Projective Duality and Homogeneous Spaces written by Evgueni A. Tevelev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Projective duality is a very classical notion naturally arising in various areas of mathematics, such as algebraic and differential geometry, combinatorics, topology, analytical mechanics, and invariant theory, and the results in this field were until now scattered across the literature. Thus the appearance of a book specifically devoted to projective duality is a long-awaited and welcome event. Projective Duality and Homogeneous Spaces covers a vast and diverse range of topics in the field of dual varieties, ranging from differential geometry to Mori theory and from topology to the theory of algebras. It gives a very readable and thorough account and the presentation of the material is clear and convincing. For the most part of the book the only prerequisites are basic algebra and algebraic geometry. This book will be of great interest to graduate and postgraduate students as well as professional mathematicians working in algebra, geometry and analysis.

Book Unitary Representations of Maximal Parabolic Subgroups of the Classical Groups

Download or read book Unitary Representations of Maximal Parabolic Subgroups of the Classical Groups written by Joseph Albert Wolf and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1976 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the irreducible unitary representations are found, in an explicit way, for the maximal parabolic subgroups in the various classical series of real and complex Lie groups. In each case, the nilradical is similar to the Heisenberg group, and its representations come out of the Kirillov orbit method. Then the representations of the parabolic subgroup are worked out from Mackey's little group method. The little group usually belongs to a different classical series--but with smaller matrices--so the end result in each series is a recursive statement involving several series.

Book Unipotent and Nilpotent Classes in Simple Algebraic Groups and Lie Algebras

Download or read book Unipotent and Nilpotent Classes in Simple Algebraic Groups and Lie Algebras written by Martin W. Liebeck and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the theory of unipotent elements in simple algebraic groups over algebraically closed or finite fields, and nilpotent elements in the corresponding simple Lie algebras. These topics have been an important area of study for decades, with applications to representation theory, character theory, the subgroup structure of algebraic groups and finite groups, and the classification of the finite simple groups. The main focus is on obtaining full information on class representatives and centralizers of unipotent and nilpotent elements. Although there is a substantial literature on this topic, this book is the first single source where such information is presented completely in all characteristics. In addition, many of the results are new--for example, those concerning centralizers of nilpotent elements in small characteristics. Indeed, the whole approach, while using some ideas from the literature, is novel, and yields many new general and specific facts concerning the structure and embeddings of centralizers.

Book The Classification of Finite Simple Groups

Download or read book The Classification of Finite Simple Groups written by Michael Aschbacher and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides an outline and modern overview of the classification of the finite simple groups. It primarily covers the 'even case', where the main groups arising are Lie-type (matrix) groups over a field of characteristic 2. The book thus completes a project begun by Daniel Gorenstein's 1983 book, which outlined the classification of groups of 'noncharacteristic 2 type'.

Book The Arcata Conference on Representations of Finite Groups Part 1

Download or read book The Arcata Conference on Representations of Finite Groups Part 1 written by Paul Fong and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1987 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in these proceedings of the 1986 Arcata Summer Institute bear witness to the extraordinarily vital and intense research in the representation theory of finite groups. The confluence of diverse mathematical disciplines has brought forth work of great scope and depth. Particularly striking is the influence of algebraic geometry and cohomology theory in the modular representation theory and the character theory of reductive groups over finite fields, and in the general modular representation theory of finite groups. The continuing developments in block theory and the general character theory of finite groups is noteworthy. The expository and research aspects of the Summer Institute are well represented by these papers.
