There is no feeling like writing down your thoughts, reflections and meditations in a journal or diary. There is a uniqueness that comes from brainstorming and sound boarding using a notepad to jot down your inner most feelings and aspirations. There is a special art that comes from doodling and scribbling freely and abundantly. Young children who have not learnt to use digital tools, can still be given paper and pen to play and learn. A diary and journal is still a special gift for a loved one, friends and family. Sometimes it's much quicker and faster to jot down points in a note book and journal during a church sermon, a conference or meeting. If you pray daily, getting your prayers into a journal or diary can be a helpful way to grow closer to Jesus and to monitor your progress. In life there is so much to be grateful for. Gratitude is an attitude that offers healing and growth. A gratitude journal can help you write down the things you are thankful for so that you keep growing and your life is filled with positivity. If you suffer from anxiety or depression, writing can help to provide therapy for tumultuous thoughts as it provides an outlet and thus ways of healing. This beautiful, writing journal and diary is perfect and great for recording, writing, taking notes and memos during conferences, business meetings, meditations, school, church sermons, speaker events, sermons on podcasts and online, during bible study and teachings. Book A Gangster s Paradise Saratoga Springs from Prohibition to Kefauver

Download or read book A Gangster s Paradise Saratoga Springs from Prohibition to Kefauver written by Greg Veitch and published by Shirespress. This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the era of the American gangster, Saratoga Springs was a virtual "Gangster's Paradise". From Prohibition to Kefauver hoodlums, gunmen and gamblers had the run of the town. With public officials accepting graft on a grand scale, and police looking the other way, a who's who of organized crime made Saratoga Springs their playground. From Charles "Lucky" Luciano and Myer Lansky, to Joe Adonis and Frank Costello, the Spa hosted them all. In his follow up book to ALL THE LAW IN THE WORLD WON'T STOP THEM, retired Saratoga Springs police Chief Greg Veitch tells the stories of the exploits of both home-grown, and nationally known gangsters at the Spa. This historical account of Saratoga Springs between Prohibition and Kefauver takes the reader back to a time when Saratoga was, indeed, A Gangster's Paradise.

Book excerpt: From the New York Times–bestselling author of Seward and Stanton comes the definitive biography of John Jay: “Wonderful” (Walter Isaacson, New York Times–bestselling author of Leonardo da Vinci). John Jay is central to the early history of the American Republic. Drawing on substantial new material, renowned biographer Walter Stahr has written a full and highly readable portrait of both the public and private man—one of the most prominent figures of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. “The greatest founders—such as Washington and Jefferson—have kept even the greatest of the second tier of the nation’s founding generation in the shadows. But now John Jay, arguably the most important of this second group, has found an admiring, skilled student in Stahr . . . Since the last biography of Jay appeared 60 years ago, a mountain of new knowledge about the early nation has piled up, and Stahr uses it all with confidence and critical detachment. Jay had a remarkable career. He was president of the Continental Congress, secretary of foreign affairs, a negotiator of the treaty that won the United States its independence in 1783, one of three authors of The Federalist Papers, first chief justice of the Supreme Court and governor of his native New York . . . [Stahr] places Jay once again in the company of America’s greatest statesmen, where he unquestionably belongs.” —Publishers Weekly “Even-handed . . . Riveting on the matter of negotiating tactics, as practiced by Adams, Jay and Franklin.” —The Economist “Stahr has not only given us a meticulous study of the life of John Jay, but one very much in the spirit of the man . . . Thorough, fair, consistently intelligent, and presented with the most scrupulous accuracy. Let us hope that this book helps to retrieve Jay from the relative obscurity to which he has been unfairly consigned.” —Ron Chernow, author of Alexander Hamilton

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timeless, “triumphant” (Entertainment Weekly) story of healing and recovery from the victim of a crime that shocked the nation: the Central Park Jogger. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 19, 1989, a young woman jogs alone near 102nd Street in New York City's Central Park. She is attacked, raped, savagely beaten, and left for dead. Hours later she arrives at the emergency room—comatose—she has lost so much blood that her doctors believe it’s a miracle she's still alive. Meet Trisha Meili, the Central Park Jogger. I Am the Central Park Jogger recounts the mesmerizing, inspiring, often wrenching story of human strength and transcendent recovery. Called “Hero of the Month” by Glamour magazine, Meili tells us who she was before the attack—a young Wall Street professional with a promising future—and who she has become: a woman who learned how to read, write, walk, talk, and love again...and turn horrifying violence and certain death into extraordinary healing and victorious life. With “moments of unexpected grace and insights into life’s challenges….Meili’s story—the story the public never knew—is unforgettable” (The Buffalo News).
