Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pluralism has become the defining characteristic of modern societies. Individuals with differing values clamor for equality. Organizations and groups assert particular interests. Social movements flourish and fade. Some see in this clash of principles and aims the potential for a more just human community, while others fear the erosion of enduring culture. Yet beneath this welter stand powerful and pervasive institutions, whose distinctive norms profoundly shape our moral commitments and character—notably the family, the market, the media, and systems of law, religion, politics, research, education, health care, and defense. Drawing on scholarship from five continents, many disciplines, and diverse religious perspectives, this series examines the impact of these various institutions on moral education, character, and values. As globalization carries the shifting dynamic between individuals and institutions into every part of the globe, the contributors hope that this conversation will help address the increasing challenges confronting our pluralist societies and our world. In the theoretical, empirical, and historical contributions to this volume, theologians, economists, and market practitioners discuss the many tensions between market economics, ethics, and the Christian religion, thus adding to the fruitful and much needed dialogue between economics and theology. With contributions by Jason Brennan, Michael J. Broyde, Ginny Seung Choi, Samuel Gregg, Peter Lampe, Manfred Lautenschläger, Frank J. Lechner, Klaus Leisinger, Katrin Gülden Le Maire, Piet Naudé, Paul Oslington, Stephen Pickard, William Schweiker, Virgil Henry Storr, Jürgen von Hagen, Michael Welker, Kaja Wieczorek and John Witte. Book Christians and Civil Government

Download or read book Christians and Civil Government written by J. Peter Hill and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil government is what we often call the state, which shares characteristics with other institutions. But unlike any other institution, the state can encourage or compel people to do certain things. It sometimes has the legitimate authority to deprive us of life, liberty, and property. The Bible tells us that it and our human governors are ordained by God. The key question this book asks is, “What has God taught us about the state?” The author also explores other questions, such as: Have we uncritically accepted ideas about civil government from our culture? Is our political identity adequately characterized as “conservative” or “progressive”—or should there be something more? What does the Old Testament teach us about civil government? What can we learn from Jesus’s relationship with the political powers of his day? This book also highlights the apostles’ interaction with local and Roman authorities and how the doctrinal statements of thoughtful Christians of the past should inform our views of civil government. Challenge political assumptions and ground your thinking in ways to honor God with the wisdom in Christians and Civil Government.

Book excerpt: Proverbs 29:2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. KJV From the beginning of mankind, there has never been a country like the United States; a beacon light to the world, giving hope, prosperity, and most of all, freedom to all those who landed on the shores of this great country. America was built upon Biblical principles, it was due to Christians civic responsibility in making a government good for all people. The prophet Hosea said, 4:6: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: KJV "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:19 KJV) The New Age movement has infiltrated the evangelical church and gradually changed the Bible to conform to it's One World Religion, which is evident in eliminating the God head, Jesus Christ, and the virgin birth in many of the Revised bible versions today. Their words and doctrines prepare the apostate church of these last days to accept the Antichrist, his mark, image, and religion--Lucifer worship. The emerging 'new' Christianity--with its substitution of riches for righteousness, a crown for a cross, and an imitation for a new creation--is shown to be a direct result of the wording in new revised versions, a blueprint for the Antichrist's One World Religion and government. Christians must get involved in government. It is our civic responsibility.
