Book Child s Life of Christ

Download or read book Child s Life of Christ written by Mary A. Lathbury and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Child's Life of Christ: Stories From the Bible I have been asked to prepare this little aid for your use in the Home - that first and greatest of schools. The school was founded by the Maker of men, and He called mothers to be its earliest and most important teachers. He prepared a text-book for it which we call His Word, illustrating it richly and fully from life and Nature, and filling it with His Spirit. Wherever it is known, as the children become the members of the Church, the citizens of the State, the people of the World, the Book goes with them, forming the Church, the State, the World. It is not only equal to the need, but contains infinite riches that wait to be unveiled. That no busy mother may say, "I cannot take time to gather from the Bible the simple lessons that my children need," this book of little stories - together making one - has been written. I have tried to preserve the pure outlines of the sacred record from the vivid description and the suggestive supposition that are sometimes introduced to add charm to the story, and in all quoted speech I have used the exact words of the authorized version of the Scriptures, so that the earliest impression made upon the memory of the child might be one that should remain. The stories are not a substitute for the Word - only little approaches to it through which young feet may be guided by her who holds a place next to the great Teacher in His work with little children. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Child's Book of Bible Stories, Vol. 1: With Practical Illustrations and Remarks; On the Fall Adam and Eve, you know, were the first man and woman, and the beautiful garden in which they lived, was called Eden. God made that garden for them to live in. It was a very delightful place. The air was pure and sweet. The weather was neither too warm/ nor too cold. It was like one of our most pleasant days in the begin ning of summer. The garden was full of all kinds of beautiful trees, many of which bore the most delicious fruit; and a clear stream ran among them to water the garden. And to make the trees and plants grow. It was there that Adam and Eve lived - both good and happy; loving God and each other, and taking care of the garden. Book The Story Bible Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story Bible Classic Reprint written by Margaret E. Sangster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-01-30 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story Bible N writing the Story Bible it has been my aim so to tell again the tales from Holy Writ familiar through the centuries, that our children of to-day may read and love them. The Bible is a treasury of stories, vivid, dra matic and full of charm. Each story has a hero or a heroine whose name is a household word, whose feats of valor or sacrifices of love stimulate us, as they have stimulated those who have gone before, to live noble lives; to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God. I have disengaged each story from sur rounding passages which treat of other affairs so that the story itself may stand out alone, like a gem or a picture. I have arranged the stories in their accustomed Biblical sequence so that they follow the order of the books in the Old and New Testaments and may later introduce their readers to the Bible in what ever version they prefer. These stories have been written with great simplicity that mothers may read them to little children, and older children read them, with pleasure, as they would read a favorite story book. People who fancy that children do not en joy good literature are mistaken. Much de pends on the early choice for them of what is best. Give a child the best and he will not be contented with the worst. The child delights in brave deeds, in romance, in chivalry, in splendid diction and poetic style. Imaginative literature fascinates children. They cannot have too much of it, from the fairy and folk lore of every nation to the beautiful truth lore scattered for them over the pages of our Eng lish Bible. Any group of listening children will hang eagerly on the story of Noah, of Abraham, of Joseph, of David, of Daniel and of the Child who came to earth in the full ness of time, when the Star led the way to the Manger. All these wondrous tales and many more stories are in this volume. I hope it may find its way wherever children meet around the hearth, and that mothers may accept its help in the training of their little ones. For Sunday afternoons and daily reading, and for quiet hours with father and mother, the Story Bible will prove a standby, themelody of its pages drawn from the one Book that never goes out of fashion and never fails to carry a heavenly message to old and young. Book Bible Stories for Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bible Stories for Children Classic Reprint written by Sarah E. Dawes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Stories for Children There was once a great storm of rain that covered the earth with a flood; first the fields and valleys were covered, and then the high hills, and last of all the mountains. All the nations who have lived Since have some story of this flood. Even the savage tribes in far-away lands have their stories of how the earth was once covered with water. There is an old Chaldean story about a man who once built a vessel in which he was saved from drowning; and in the vessel with him were many different animals and birds. Another singular story is told of a battle between the sea and the earth. In this fight the sea wins the day, and the earth is covered by the water. There is also a Phrygian story of a man named Enos who foresaw that there was to come a great rain; and it is said that he wept and prayed for his people, because of the terrible flood that was coming upon them. A curious medal has been found that tells about this flood, and upon it is a picture of a square-shaped vessel This is floating upon the water, and has the picture of a man and woman standing within it. There are two birds in the picture; one of them is perched on top of the vessel and the other is flying toward it, with a branch in his mouth. From the Bible we have our story of the Flood, and it is one of the most interesting which we find in the sacred Book. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Stories for Children: Including an Address to the Children; The Bible, the Book for the Young God once said: "And thou shalt teach them diligently to thy children." The whole Bible, Old Testament and New, was meant to be taught to the boys and girls all over the world. When I was in Egypt, fifteen years ago, I lay one beautiful moonlight night on the white sand of an island in the river Nile. It was an island away up near the equator, and as I lay there I saw beautiful trees with their long, leafy branches above me; I saw green fields reaching out on either side; I heard the old river Nile rippling over the stones in its bed; and I thought of the rich fields of cotton and wheat and sugar-cane and of the thousands of palm trees which I had seen along the river, and of all the people who had gotten their bread from the waters of the Nile, which, covering the sand of the desert, make it fertile and fruitful, and I blessed God for the Nile. Where does it come from? You have learned that the Nile springs from the snows of very high mountains away up in Abyssinia, and from two immense lakes in the center of Africa, and it carries the waters from these mountains and lakes down through Egypt, and turns a desert into a garden. But there is another river more wonderful than the river of old Egypt. It flows down from God out of heaven, and flows over this world, and brings with it all that is beautiful and healthful and good. The waters of this river are carried off in little canals, and are brought into the homes and churches and Sunday-schools;and wherever they go tend to make lives good and happy. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Story: And Its Teaching for Children Tolstoy found this power of the Old Testament in arousing interest absolutely unique in his remarkable experiments in the schooling of peasant children: Of all the oral subjects I tried during three years, nothing so suited the understanding and mental condition of the boys as the Old Testament. The same was the case in all the schools that came under my observation. It seems to me that the book of the childhood of the race will always be the best book for the childhood of each man To alter or to abbreviate the Bible appears to me bad. All, every word, in it is right, both as revelation and as art. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Stories: My Children Love Best of All The main purpose of this edition is to condense the narrative portions of the Old Testament into a volume of moderate length possessing as much interest as possible for the general reader. The Bible words and the Bible's impressive phraseology are retained almost exclusively; and such changes as have been made are of a minor nature. Most of them consist in merely substituting the names of persons or things for more or less indefinite pronouns. The verbal form is as a rule that of the King James Version; but where the Revised Version or the marginal alternative readings offer words or phrases that are clearer, these have been substituted for the usual text. Great care has been taken to have the narrative as connected as that in the Bible itself, or even more so; for continuity makes the impression stronger, and attracts much keener interest than a broken series of short stories. In preserving this continuity several books of the Old Testament are printed out of their customary order, that the events they chronicle may follow each other more accurately. Download or read book A Child s Guide to the Bible Classic Reprint written by George Hodges and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-11 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Child's Guide to the Bible One reason why the Bible books are bound together is that some of them are so very small. Thus in the middle of the Bible are sixteen books of sermons, beginning with Isaiah; and sometimes there is only one sermon in the book; and some of these sermons are so short that they may easily be read aloud, from beginning to end, in less than ten minutes. And near the end of the Bible are twenty-one books of letters, beginning with R0 mans; a few of these are long, but others are hardly more than notes, and do not fill the whole of a single printed page. These little writings, by themselves, might be lost. They are bound up with the others for safe keeping. When we say, then, that there are sixty-seven books of the Bible, we do not mean that they are all good-sized books, such as we have on our shelves, for that would make a volume quite too big. There are sixty-seven different pieces, long and short, each with its own writer, and its own subject and its own title.
