Book A Checkered Path to Destiny

Download or read book A Checkered Path to Destiny written by Ivan L. Flynn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-01-27 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Checkered Path to Destiny is about the survival of a young man born in a rural area of Jamaica into the Lower Class of Society. It tells of his constant desire to find a place to call home and a fit for him in Jamaican society. Ivan really digs deep to open a window to the world he survived. Every child has the right to a name, a home and an education. Sadly, a lack of those basic rights plus hunger and abuse all became a normal part of Ivan’s severely limited childhood. Some of the odds against him were: a broken home, being placed as a servant in the care of others, a lack of education and many of his trials were self-imposed. The Checkered Path in Jamaica took a dramatic turn that changed his life forever. Ivan indicates in this book that he has always been inspired by people of high moral values and fortitude. These were people he held up as role models, and chose to emulate throughout his life. As a result, he learns very early in life that all good opportunities come and go and like a moving platform one must chose to either hop on or watch in bewilderment as it gets out of reach. Unfortunately as he grew older, he did not always practice what he had learned. A Checkered Path to Destiny will horrify, intrigue and delight people of all ages – globally. Perhaps you will smile as you read this book, and even question the author’s rational for being so candid about certain events, but in this writing his history shows not what he wished it could have been, but what was and what is. Download or read book The Benevolent American in the Heart of Darkness written by Albert Russo and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-12-13 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Benevolent American in the Heart of Darkness" is a trilogy of Albert Russos award-winning African novels set in the former Belgian Congo and Rwanda-Urundi. In The Black Ancestor, the reader will find, as in the two other novels, Eclipse over Lake Tanganyika and Mixed Blood or your son Lopold, many poignant and delightful passages, especially in the journeys across the magnificent Kivu province, which today, along with bordering Rwanda and Burundi, has been scarred by fratricidal wars. That Leodine, in the opening novel, happens to be an adolescent, as was Leopold in Mixed Blood, isnt fortuitous, for it is at that vulnerable period of ones life that ones personality takes form. In Albert Russos Africa you will find humankinds infinite diversity and, amid such richness, a quest for the deep self. Eric Tessier. Albert Russo has recreated through a young African boys joys and struggles many of the tensions of modern life, straight and gay, black and white, third world and first ... all of these tensions underlie this story of a biracial child adopted by a benevolent American. Mixed Blood or Your son Leopold is a non-stop, gripping read!" Edmund White.

Book Destiny s Tapestry

Download or read book Destiny s Tapestry written by Betty June Gilliland and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a stormy night, as a hurricane raced up the Gulf Coast and created havoc in its path, Betty Gilliland was born on a corn shuck mattress in a barn at the foot of Sand Mountain. As soon as the midwife wrapped her in a blanket and gently laid her in a cow manger, Gilliland began a journey through life that would eventually test her spirit, courage, and, most of all, her power to forgive. Gilliland begins by chronicling her growing up years during a challenging time in America's history. Her father was drafted into the war and then abandoned his family, leaving Gilliland and her mother to eke out a life for themselves in their tiny cabin, surviving on a diet of wild greens, nuts, and roots. As she weaves through the threads of her life's tapestry, Gilliland recalls the challenges she confronted during her difficult coming-of-age journey as she suffered through hardships, physical abuse, emotional abandonment, and her own self-destructive behavior. Yet through it all, she never lost the faith. What's more, she used that faith to begin building a new life and to discover her roots. Destiny's Tapestry shares one woman's poignant memories of moving from the darkness of abuse into the light of healing.
