This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Appeal to the World for a Chapel in Every Home It is timely that we should make provision for a sanctuary for prayer in every home throughout the land, and by this means strive to build a new spiritual foundation for the world in the home, in the life of the child, by the gradual introduction of the consecrated room, so that there shall ultimately be a chapel in every home, of the rich and the poor. Religion will be on a surer foundation, beginning with earliest consciousness. Then the nations will be more God-fearing, for the children will grow into men and women, and the sanctity of the home will be re flected in their lives and in all their dealings with their fellow-man. This cannot be accomplished by any one denomina tion any more than it can by one individual; it is a work of labor and love, nay more, it is a duty for us all. The chapel in the home will have its enemies; it will be called impracticable, and its path will be thorny, but all must admit that the things of God must be first or we perish. Book The Catholic Home Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Catholic Home Classic Reprint written by Father Alexander and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Catholic Home The Christian family is the unit which goes to {l build up the Catholic Church. To vary\ the metaphor, the Holy Family of Nazareth was the mustard-seed out of which the vast tree of the Universal Church has grown. In Joseph and Mary and the Holy Child we have the prototypes and models of the Father, the Mother, and the children who form the Catholic Family. Indeed, it is the ideal of the Family which pervades the whole constitution and life of the Church. Our Lord in His parables frequently refers to Almighty God as the Father of the family (paterfamilias), or simply as the Father. Think of the touching parable of the Prodigal Son. Christ taught us when we pray to address God as Our Father. St. Paul tells us that after Him all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named (eph. Iii. As Joseph, the foster-father, or legal father, of Christ in the home of Nazareth was, as spiritual writers tell us, the vicar or vice gerent of the Heavenly Father on earth - so that Mary could call him to her Divine Son, Thy father. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Chautauqua Girls at Home Hitherto it had been to them simply the First Church; grander, by several degrees, than any other church in the city, having the finest choir, and the finest organ, and the most elegant car pets, and making the grandest floral display of all the temples, as became the First Church, of course; but to-day, this glowing, glorious August day, it was something infinitely above and beyond all this; it was the visible temple of the invisible God, their Saviour, and they were going up to worship - aye, really and truly to worship. They, in their different ways, accord ing to their very different natures, felt this and were thrilled with it as their feet trod the aisles. People can feel a great many things, and not show them to the casual Observer. Sitting in their respective pews, they looked in no sense different from the way they had looked on a hundred difierent Sabbaths before this. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Year Book of the Chapel of the Cross, 1921 Report of the Secretary of the Vestry on the Parish Work in 192] In the year just closed the Parish has tried to take its part in the many sided activity of the general Church in its mission of building up the spiritual life of men and women all over the world. At the same time we have been concerned with many local matters of practical interest connected with our special. Work here at home. There has been a careful supervision of Church property, involving repairs, enlargement of equipment, exten sion, and in general, the introduction of modern methods suit able to the needs of the time. The work of the Vestry has therefore been, not wholly, but largely of a practical character. In the eleven meetings that were held these practical matters were fully discussed and plans were made for the execution of the work. Detailed mention need not be made here of the repairs and improvements made in Church property. There were many. But it is proper to state that the Rector himself has freely given his time and personal service in many of these matters. We are also indebted to Mr. Carter for very valuable assist ance given with great skill and as a labor of love. With his own hands he has repainted and varnished parts of the wood work of the church, and in general he has been zealous in planning and carrying out important repairs and improvements suggested to him by his large experience. Time does not permit the mention here of many similar matters supervised by members of the Vestry and congregation or actually carried out by their own hands. In collecting and disbursing the revenues of the Parish the Vestry has devoted its attention constantly to the needs of the Nation Wide Campaign and to the payment of our quota of the Church Pension Fund. Provision has been made for both of these objects. Other important enterprises which have engaged the attention of the Parish and the Vestry are: The plans for Church Extension and the disposition of the Holt Fund. It will be recalled that at the suggestion of the Bishop acommittee of the Vestry prepared an estimate of the funds needed for the extensive enlargement of the church building and the addition of auxiliary elements similar to the Parish House. The same committee, also at the suggestion Of the Bishop, personally laid this matter before the Diocesan Convention at Durham in the current year. The Convention heartily endorsed the general plan and a large committee of the Diocese was appointed to co-operate with the Parish committee in raising the estimated as needed for this work, according to the estimates of the architect, Mr. Upjohn, of New York. The Parish committee has begun its work and it is hoped that this great enterprise will progress with reasonable rapidity.
