Book A Manual of Facial Growth

Download or read book A Manual of Facial Growth written by S. N. Bhatia and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1993 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two decades have seen a proliferation in the use of sophisticated orthodontic appliances, capable of considerable precision in manipulating the correction of misplaced teeth, and in the use of orthognathic surgery for the treatment of facial deformity. Both of these advances have greatly increased the demand for precise information about the future facial growth and its probable variations. A more scientific approach to orthodontic treatment requires that the claims for the efficacy of various treatment techniques should be substantiated, a process which needs a baseline of data on normal growth changes with which to compare improvement attributed to the treatment. An opportunity to satisfy this need was provided by the development of an online computer system with computergraphic facilities alongside longitudinal growth material at King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry. From this material cephalometric records extending from before the age of 5 years to adulthood was made immediately available to researchers. The data covers a greater range of ages than is presently available and are based upon as large a sample of the British population as possible. This includes occlusion developed normally without orthodontic treatment. This book is essentially a manual of growth changes and is largely descriptive. Some introductory explanations are included to define the nature and source of the sample, and the methods used in taking the radiographs and in assembling and processing the data.

Book Essentials of Facial Growth

Download or read book Essentials of Facial Growth written by Donald H. Enlow and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authored by the foremost experts in the field, this compact reference serves the student and clinician by relating basic science to successful treatment planning. It demonstrates how the best instrument in dental medicine is often the practitioner's knowledge of the body's biologic growth principles. Donald H. Enlow, MS, PhD, the acknowledged pioneer and research leader in facial growth study for the past twenty years, provides comprehensive insights into normal and abnormal craniofacial growth and development. His colleague, Mark G. Hans, DDS, MSD, contributes a concrete understanding of the importance of these concepts in clinical practice. It delves into the interrelationships between soft tissue and skeletal growth, and examines the impact of function upon development. And it stresses the ways in which these biological principles and concepts affect treatment planning, selection, results, relapse, tooth movement, and nonbiological prosthetic implants during growth. Detailed illustrations make key concepts and developmental processes simple to grasp, and a user-friendly organization allows for quick comprehension and convenient referral.
