Book Educational Film Guide 1953

Download or read book Educational Film Guide 1953 written by Frederic A. Krahn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-16 with total page 1048 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Educational Film Guide, 1953: 11, 000 16mm Motion Pictures Indexed and Described Types of Films Included. An attempt has been made to include all 16mm motion pictures intended for educational use, all sponsored or free films, religious films, films on travel, music, and sports, docu mentary and experimental films, etc. A selective policy is followed for home movies and features released on 16mm film. Films intended solely for the medical, dental, and psychiatric professions are omitted entirely. History. The first edition of this Guide was published in 1936 with the title: Educational Film Catalog. For years before that The H. W. Wilson Company had been making surveys and inquiries to learn whether or not such a catalog was really needed. When the decision to publish the Guide was made, a questionnaire regarding the form and general policies was submitted to educators and librarians. In 1945 the name was changed to Educational Film Guide. Form of Guide. An explanation of the purpose of the two parts of the Guide and the information which can be found in each is contained 111 the Directions for Use printed inside the front cover. Evaluation System. At regular intervals, a list of the new films which have appeared in the Guide is sent to members of the Advisory Panel (names on Page vii). Each person is asked to rate the films he has seen by using a numerical scale which indicates the range from poor to excellent. If the average of three more of these numerical evaluations IS sufficiently high, the film receives a star with its listing in Part 2. This system has been devised to obtain the composite Opinions of per sons thruout the United States and Canada who hold responsible positions' in the audio-visual field, and who see a great many films in the course of their regular duties. Reference is also made to evaluations or reviews of films appearing in magazines which are likely to be generally available in public and school libraries or audio-visual departments. Grading. The grading symbols used in Part 2 represent, as nearly as can be determined, the audience level for which the producer intended his film to have optimum use. This does not rule out the fact that the film may be useful at other levels. It is also noted that many films are made with no specific audience in mind, and may be useful, to some ex tent, at all age levels. Book Educational Film Catalog 1939 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Educational Film Catalog 1939 Classic Reprint written by H. W. Wilson Company and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Educational Film Catalog (1939) The second edition of the Educational Film Catalog, a revision of the 1936 edition, is a selected list containing 2370 films. This replaces all volumes and supplements which have preceded it. As in the 1936 edition of the Catalog the selection of films included is not confined to classroom films but includes those which are available for all non-theatrical uses, making this Catalog valuable to clubs, churches, libraries and various educational institutions as well as to schools. Revision. This edition has been thoroughly revised. In the 1936 edition 1175 films were listed. In the various quarterly and annual supplements since then a total of 1812 films were given. This makes a total of 2987 films which were reconsidered. About a third of these were omitted from this edition because they are no longer available or because our collaborators no longer considered them of enough value to be included in such a list. For this new edition 370 new films were added, many of them recently made available by the Teaching Film Custodians. Stars. In addition to this reselection of every film included, an attempt has been made to star those films considered excellent and to double star those which might be called outstanding. No attempt has been made to star proportionately in any class. Distributors. In the 1937 annual supplement a new feature was added showing where films were available other than from the producer or authorized distributor. This information is constantly changing and even tho considerable effort has been made to have these rental sources as complete as possible, there may be some omissions. Form of Catalog. This Catalog follows the form of other members of the Standard Catalog Series with a classified list and an alphabetical title and subject index. 1. Index. The index is placed first for convenience of the users. This includes in one alphabet, the titles, subjects and, if important, the authors and actors of the films included. The classification number is given so that by referring to Part 2 full information about the film may be found. Subjects have been assigned freely because educators have expressed their belief that even a few feet of film on a specific subject is valuable The subjects given are those with which the film deals not - the particular courses in school in which they may be used. These often overlap. 2. Classified list. The films are classified according to the Dewey Decimal classification.
