Book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife

Download or read book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife written by Bruce Lytle and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a must for anyone traveling to Africa or planning to go on a Southern African Safari, and if your going on safari you need to bring only one book "A short safari adventure among Africa's thorny Bushveld wildlife: Part One - History guide, life's imperatives, enigmas and travel" This book is about a safari adventure to Southern Africa, and is as rich in its history, including Zulu, ANC, Nelson Mandela and technical data as it is in its unusually unique extraordinary photography (over 400 of Lars' outdoor adventure photographs) that the authors have provided along with this wonderful adventure primarily illustrating how ancient San Bushman like hunter-gatherer attitudes influence mankind today and secondly how the global issues of land degradation, water resources, climate, struggles of third world countries, protein shortage, disease, biodiversity, and struggles of conservation affect us, and finally to show that conservation is no longer sufficient for both the survival of wildlife but also Mankind, because in many "conservation" areas wild animals are disappearing and we need animals biodiversity to survive dietary strains as the human population peaks at the end of the 21st century rather than just conservation. We need to focus on the restoration of habitat, ecosystems, communities, biodiversity, and wild animals, which are labeled "sustainable restorancy." They use this word "restorancy" because conservation and conservancy imply maintaining the status quo, however, in so many areas the habitat has been decimated and it is no longer a matter of conserving it but rather the environment needs to be restored and wild animals reintroduced to a restorancy. The authors integrate their adventures and stories including dealing with the Terrible Twelve - lions, leopards, elephants, rhino, buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, sharks, mambas and other snakes, tropical diseases, hyenas, and Homo sapiens. Why did we transition from hunter gatherers to pastoralists or agriculturalists and civilization, despite the "luxurious" living of hunter -gatherers and what relics of hunting remain in our daily lives? Is basketball a hunting reflection of a team on each side of a mastodon trying to dunk stones on the mastodon's head and why were we so successful in hunting and overcoming other animals? Is not President Obama's hunt for Bin Laden the ultimate modern manifestation of our deeply ingrained hunting process? Bruce elaborates on why he hunts, his transition from bird hunter to deer hunter, antelope hunter, and then how when he started hunting elk he found, as in Africa, he needed a guide and more help as part of the hunting process. He relates how Rivulets of Moment, including based on the adventure stories he read as a child about the "jungles" of Africa, a rifle, a trip to Africa, and a dream converged into a river carrying him to trophy hunting in Africa. Lars accompanied him and interviews Bruce, friends, PHs, photographs, and documents the return to the Bushveld and wildlife interactions where Lars grew up. The authors have done an excellent job of blending the past and existing problems and the future solutions by exploring the Manger of early Mankind and the influences on this remarkably beautiful continent. How has the enigma of earth's geology from the Big Bang onwards, including Moses timeline, and weather stresses, driven animal physiology to adapt, and in turn anatomy and behavior to accommodate, and how do different genealogies based on various methods reconcile with ancient biped Australopithecus and Homo species anatomical findings? How did emerging biped Paleo-anthropology and Paleolithic stresses, reflected in the Healthy San Bushmen diet, drive our need to hunt for protein, leadership, belief, protection against wild animal attack and disease, and what are the future challenges for our modern civilization and healthcare? Ingrained or encoded brain encryption from the past drives our daily lives.

Book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife

Download or read book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife written by Phd Lars G Svensson MD and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A short safari adventure among Africa's thorny Bushveld wildlife: Part Two - Hunting, Ecosystem Challenges, Wildlife Restorancy." This is the second book in the series of true African travel and adventure safari that passionately deals with sensitive environmental, past political and wildlife management issues that face Africa today. "This book is not just another hunting story. It is the story of discovery, of brutally harsh realities - in short, an epic tale of Africa," summarized Don Heath, former Chief Ecologist for the Zimbabwe Parks Department, "you have the rediscovery of Africa by an ex African and a native American as they make their way through the thorny issues if not downright slippery shibboleths of consumptive conservation - 'wise use' was the Zimbabwean term I coined for the CITES COP 10 to argue for conservation through hunting." The format for the first part of this second book in the series relates Bruce's impressions of the day's hunt and thoughts in Bubye Conservancy and then around a campfire and dinner Bruce, PH Brent Hein, and Lars discuss their Perceptions of the Day, world events, mankind's struggles, Paleolithic behavior, diets, climate, environment, sports, conservation, hunting, reflections of hunting in modern society, rifles, and Africa. Based on their experience and reading, this would be like Teddy Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, Harry Selby, Al Gore, Jarred Diamond, Michael DeBakey and Jane Goodall gathering around an African campfire to discuss matters of interest to them. The authors tell of the random thrilling and dangerous events that occur to them when confronted by charging rhino, wild bush-pigs, elephants, giraffe and buffalo daka Tsotsie (gangsters) in the hot midday sun. Lars delves into the ecosystem challenges, the threat of diminishing wildlife populations in many game reserves and conservation areas, and the mounting problem of over population of elephants in Southern African countries leading to the devastation of habitats. Can ecotourism alone save Africa's wildlife or is hunting part of the financial equation or as Henry Thoreau said, is it true "The hunter is the greatest friend of the animals"? Do we need the biodiversity of distant Africa for Mankind's survival? Is a dead mamba the only good mamba or is there more to snakes? Who were the strong wild bulls of Bashan (aurochs or Pelorovis antiquus or Caper buffalo), and the giant race of Rephaim and Nephilim? Game managers have limited tools to manage wildlife populations, namely: fire, water, fencing, and culling or "off take", like selling of animals. Recent auctions have brought in over $2.3 million for a buffalo, and $0.5 million dollars for a rhino but the prices for the latter are paradoxically falling because of poaching and the cost of protection. The Kruger Park challenges and management is used to illustrate these aspects but also raises the problem of financing large wild life areas and how pressure from surrounding poverty stricken communities needs to be addressed and encompassed in any solution. The issues of harvesting wildlife for meat for local community populations, restaurants and the biltong trade, subsistence hunting, and trophies for tourist recreational hunters, and the ethics, are reviewed. Wild life restorancy is discussed in the broader context of Africa's rising, politics, potential agricultural resources, and future overpopulation food requirements, especially since growth will occur in Africa. Their hope is that African advancing higher education, the growth of the new middle class, African "ubuntu", and strong moral fiber based on religious beliefs will overcome the challenges of corruption and mismanagement. Ultimately, the question is whether one has the faith in Mankind to do the right thing and whether we will be able to resolve the issues? Bruce adds an Epilogue on the stunning turn of events after their return.

Book Safari 101 Hunting Africa the Ultimate Adventure

Download or read book Safari 101 Hunting Africa the Ultimate Adventure written by David L. Brown and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mbogo, the Black Death, which manifests itself in the African Cape buffalo, now stood less than 12 feet away from me. The cow and calf were too close for me to have time to be scared. I would only have time to react on instinct if they came closer. That is the type of excitement that every hunter dreams of and it is still possible in Africa today. It is also one that I was fortunate enough to experience without any permanent ill effects. Eighty percent or more of American hunters think that Africa is too expensive or off-limits and that they will never have a chance to experience their own, up-close-and-personal adventure in the African bushveld. Safari 101 proves just the opposite. Safari 101 is written for the hunter that has always considered Africa out of reach, someone who has a spark of desire just waiting to be fanned into a flame. American hunters spend thousands of dollars every year hunting at home. Almost none of them know that, for the price of a guided elk hunt in the western United States, they can take an African Safari. The myths of being too expensive and too difficult are firmly entrenched in many hunters minds. Safari 101 has forty-six hints dispersed throughout 11 chapters and proves these myths false. Personal experiences are used to illustrate the value of each hint and to make each one easy to remember. Safari 101 takes the author's experiences, and what he learned from professional hunters and outfitters, and puts the information in a logical progression that is entertaining as well as informative. Safari 101 will help fan the spark into a flame.

Ex-SAS officer Shane Castle has been recruited by Fletcher to spearhead the anti-poaching campaign. The story is told largely in a series of splendid photographs, the kaleidoscope scene viewed through the lens of talented photographer Denny Allen. Peter Joyce provides an informative narrative. Each of the chapters covers a different aspect of bushveld life. Among the focus subjects are lions and other hunting carnivores; the bigger herbivore prey species, which have their own defence mechanisms; those very large creatures, like elephant and rhino, which have few if any natural enemies; the smaller but equally fascinating animals of the region; the birds that grace the savannas and woodlands; the biomass background; and the sanctuaries themselves, most famous of which is the Kruger National Park.
