Download or read book Our Life Is Love written by Marcelle Martin and published by . This book was released on 2016-02-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Life is Love describes the transformational spiritual journey of the first Quakers, who turned to the Light of Christ within and allowed it to be their guide. Many Friends today use different language, but are still called to make the same journey. In our time people seeking deeper access to the profound teachings of Christianity want more than just beliefs, they want direct experience. Focusing on ten elements of the spiritual journey, this book is a guide to a Spirit-filled life that affects this world. Quakers in the seventeenth century and today provide examples of people and communities living in the midst of the world whose radical understanding of Christ's teachings led them to become powerful agents of social change. The book offers a simple, clear explanation of the spiritual journey that is suitable not only for Quakers, but for all Christians, and for seekers wanting to better understand our spiritual experience and the fullness of God's call to us. The book would make an excellent focus for study groups. Marcelle Martin has led workshops at retreat centers and Quaker meetings across the United States. She served for four years as the resident Quaker Studies teacher at Pendle Hill and was a core teacher in the School of the Spirit program, The Way of Ministry. She is the author of the Pendle Hill pamphlets Invitation to a Deeper Communion and Holding One Another in the Light. In 2013 she was the Mullen Writing Fellow at Earlham School of Religion while working on this book.

Book Generating Tact and Flow for Effective Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Generating Tact and Flow for Effective Teaching and Learning written by Susanna M. Steeg Thornhill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws from and analyzes teachers’ and students’ stories of great classes in order to promote teachers’ development of pedagogical tact and to encourage flow states for students. Taken together, these theoretical lenses—pedagogical tact and flow—provide a valuable framework for understanding and motivating classroom engagement. As the authors suggest, tactful teachers are more likely to see their students in flow than teachers who struggle with basic classroom routines and practices. Grounded in narrative research, and written for pre-service teachers, the book offers strategies for replicating these first-hand accounts of peak classroom teaching and learning.

Book Journal of George Fox Christmas Summary Classics

Download or read book Journal of George Fox Christmas Summary Classics written by George Fox and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas Summary Classics This series contains summary of Classic books such as Emma, Arne, Arabian Nights, Pride and prejudice, Tower of London, Wealth of Nations etc. Each book is specially crafted after reading complete book in less than 30 pages. One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book George Fox, the founder of the Society of Friends, or "Friends of the Truth," was born at Drayton, Leicestershire, in July, 1624, and died in London on January 13, 1691. His "Journal," here epitomised, was published in 1694, after being revised by a committee under the superintendence of William Penn, and prefaced for the press by Thomas Ellwood, the Quaker. Fox rejected all outward shows of religion, and believed in an inward light and leading. He claimed to be divinely directed as he wandered, Bible in hand, through the country, denouncing church-worship, a paid ministry, religious "profession," and advocating a spiritual affiliation with Christ as the only true religion. He was imprisoned often and long for "brawling" in churches and refusing to take oaths then required by law. Fox wrote in prison many books of religious exhortation, his style being tantalisingly involved. The one work that lives is the "Journal," a quaintly egotistic record of unquestioning faith and unconquerable endurance in pursuit of a spiritual ideal through a rude age. Book How Shall We Then Care

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Shotsberger
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2020-01-21
  • ISBN : 1532682409

Download or read book How Shall We Then Care written by Paul Shotsberger and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though much has been written about ethic of care and its importance in education, little is available to guide Christian educators who desire to demonstrate a disposition of care toward self, learners, colleagues, and community. As this book makes clear, a Christian ethic of care serves to illuminate our relationship with God while also helping to flesh out what care looks like in various contexts, including and especially teaching and teacher education. How Shall We Then Care? invites engagement with questions not just about what teachers should know about care, but about how they are to care for those in their circle of influence, what it means to care, what counts as care, what practices nurture care, and how care is experienced. The authors are teachers and teacher educators who, like you, have struggled to find answers to these questions. The settings for these explorations span the spectrum from K-12 classrooms to Christian and public higher education, covering issues such as trauma-informed classroom practice, the use of role-playing games for teaching ethics, the transition from teacher candidate to novice teacher, the crucial interface between care and inclusive education, and the vital role empathy plays in educational care.

Book A Brief Guide to Spiritual Classics

Download or read book A Brief Guide to Spiritual Classics written by James M. Russell and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2016-05-19 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This very readable brief guide examines a wide range of spiritual writing that can be read for enjoyment or inspiration, including some books that come from beyond any religious tradition. While written from within the Christian tradition, and offering introductions to the writings of medieval mystics, Quakers and modern evangelists, both Protestant and Catholic, it also looks at classics of secular spirituality and writings from different religious traditions. Each book is explained to convey a brief idea of what each one has to offer the interested reader, while a 'Speed Read' for each book delivers a quick sense of what each writer is like to read and a highly compressed summary of the main points of the book in question. This is an excellent reference to dip into, but within sections such as Early Christian Classics, Secular Texts, Lives of Inspiration and Alternative Approaches, the books are arranged chronologically, revealing some interesting juxtapositions and connections between them.
