Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Brief History of the War This bulletin makes no pretense of being either a thorough or a final treatment of the war. Its purpose is merely to gather in concise form the more significant phases of the war, so that these may be taught in the schools of Texas. A heavy responsibility rests upon all teachers in our present crisis, for their instruction will have great in uence upon the opinions of their pupils. Amid the bitterness and hatred that war develops, it becomes increasingly necessary for as many people as possible to keep clearly in mind the main issues of this con ict. Disloyalty and intrigue are abroad, and Ameri cans should one and all so understand our part in this war that no doubt or faintheartedness can turn us aside from what we have undertaken to do. Book A Reference History of the War Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Reference History of the War Classic Reprint written by Irwin Scofield Guernsey and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Reference History of the War This volume has been prepared in order to meet the ever increasing demand for a reliable authentic history of the war in all its phases in one volume. Almost all the histories of the war that have been published to date have been written on specific aspects of the tremendous struggle. Those that cover the entire subject have been set before the public in many volumes, and, as a consequence, demand a large amount of time on the part of the reader. After the armistice was signed and the Peace Conference finished, the publishers of this volume determined to offer the reading public a compact history of the war in a single volume. This has been done with the result that a comprehensive but not detailed history of the war has been produced. It is narrated in an entertaining, scholarly style. The various chapter headings, War in Brief, Underlying Causes of the War, Military Operations, Naval Operations, Aerial Operations, Destruction of Art and Architecture, Alleged Atrocities, Peace Terms and War Aims, Neutral Nations, Economic and Financial Aspects, Peace Conference and Peace Treaties, etc., will show at a glance the scope of the volume. An index and bibliography of the most accessible books on the war have also been included. The material for the history of the war was gathered from the most reliable contemporary sources, and was edited from time to time in order to include new facts that were unearthed or to delete material that had been assumed true at the time it was incorporated but later proved contrary to fact. The basic material presented for the first two years was contributed by several members of the staff of the New International Encyclopaedia, namely, Colonel Cornelis De Witt Wilcox, U. S. A.; Professor F. H. Hankins; Professor Nelson P. Mead; Captain Lewis Sayre Van Duzer, U. S. N.; Mr. Herbert T. Wade; and Mr. Irwin Scofield Guernsey. The bulk of the work has been done by Mr. Irwin Scofield Guernsey. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Short History of the Great World War Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Short History of the Great World War Classic Reprint written by F. Maynard Bridge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Short History of the Great World War AT first sight this short history may seem a superfluous addition to the literature of the War. Several exhaustive histories, written by competent authorities, have appeared in numerous parts and volumes, and there are many smaller works dealing with special phases of the war. But there are thousands of people who have not had the time or the opportunity to read these works, many of Whom will, perhaps, be glad to have the record of the whole war in a handy form at a moderate price. It may also appeal to repatriated prisoners of war who were only able to follow the course of events through enemy versions, and would like to devote a few hours to reading the complete story. Lastly, there is no doubt that the history and lessons of the Great War will be taught in the schools and colleges of the British Empire, and it is hoped teachers may find this book useful either as a class-book for their pupils or a foundation for their own teaching. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pictorial History of the Great War Devotion of time to research by the very best authors and critics has been given that its facts may be clearly and accurately presented. It contains no state ments based on rumors, no accounts taken from unauthoritative sources. The New World undoubtedly was a great determining factor in the overthrow and crushing of junkerism, and for that reason this volume should be of the great est interest to the peoples of Canada and the United States. Over two and one half million sons of North America crossed to France. Their concentration and transportation was one of the greatest military feats in history. Canada, as a part of the British Empire, naturally became involved first. Her record of service will fill every patriot with a feeling of pride and inspiration. The active share in the war by the United States, though it covered only a little over a year and a half, is the nation's most glorious achievement. Book Truths of History

Download or read book Truths of History written by Mildred Lewis Rutherford and published by Ironclad Pub. This book was released on 1998-12 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductions by Mauriel P Joslyn and JH Segars. In today's society we are unaccustomed to writings as bold and direct as those penned by Mildred Lewis Rutherford (1851-1928). The surviving papers of this Georgia educator provide an interpretation of Civil War History that is rarely found in modern texts. "Truths of History," first published in 1920, is an extraordinary presentation of historical viewpoints held by Southerners, past and present. Also included in this reprint is "Wrongs of History Righted," a fiery lecture given by Rutherford in 1914 in Savannah. Miss "Millie" Rutherford's insight into the mindset of Southerners is both fascinating and provocative. Few scholars were more keenly aware of the heart, mind and soul of the Confederate soldier than was this national orator and Grand Historian of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

July 24th - The day Russia sent the above message she decided on a partial mobilization of her troops. She believed that trouble was coming and she must prepare for it in time. Russia asked England's aid in case war came. France being bound to Russia by treaty as an ally, hinted at the same. Germany knew that the war was coming and she asked Eng land to remain neutral. England feared war, but her h0pe was for peace and so she did not commit herself to either France, Russia or Germany. Download or read book A School History of the Great War Classic Reprint written by Albert E. McKinley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A School History, of the Great War This brief history of the world's greatest war was prepared upon the suggestion of the National Board for Historical Service. Its purpose is to expand into an historical narrative the outline of the study of the war which the authors prepared for the Board and which was published by the United States Bureau of Education as Teachers' Leaflet No. 4, in August, 1918. The ar rangement of chapters and the choice of topics have been largely determined by the various headings in the outline for the course in grades seven and eight. The authors trust that the simple presentation here given may aid in developing a national comprehension of the issues involved in the war; and they hope it may play some part in preparing the American people for the solution of the great problems which lie immediately before us. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Turkey and the War This little book is an attempt to define the real aims of the present war. That is to say, we presume, that there may be a difference between what people, even people in leading positions, suppose to be the aim of the war, and What it really is. The current formulas on this subject circulated in this country may prove, on more atten tive analysis, to reflect popular feelings rather than immanent realities of the universal Situation. Book A Concise Chronicle of Events of the Great War Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Concise Chronicle of Events of the Great War Classic Reprint written by R. P. P. Rowe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Concise Chronicle of Events of the Great War I trust that this chronicle of the chief events of the war will prove a useful and an interesting record. It has been decided to omit maps, because their inclusion within bounds less than cumbersome would prove practically worthless. The number of towns, as opposed to villages, which were definitely connected with the war is surprisingly small, and their locality is known to nearly every one. The great majority of places which the war has brought into prominence are villages so small that they are marked only in maps of an exceptionally large scale. What is required, therefore, for adequate study of the topography of the war, is either a moderate number of maps of great size or a far larger and confusing number less bulky but each covering only a small area. As the inclusion of either would necessitate a detached and cumbrous volume, I have in its absence taken pains to indicate accurately the posi tion of every place whose locality might be unfamiliar. In the following pages the names given to the battles, and the dates on which they began and ended, are from sources either official or authoritative. The same may be said of the strategical or tactical aims or results which I have in some cases noted - particularly in 1918.
