Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Historical Account of the Protestant Episcopal Church in South-Carolina, From the First Settlement of the Province, to the War of the Revolution: With Notices of the Present State of the Church in Each Parish and Some Account of the Early Civil History of Carolina The work having exceeded the size originally intended, by more than 100 pages, it was found imponible to give the Journals of the Convention entire. The sources whence the materials for the following work are mostly drawn, are, Humphreys' History of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, and some of their subsequent Abstracts; the Register of the Bishop of London's Commissary in Carolina, and other records belonging to the Church; the Journals of the Vestries; Hewett's, Milligan's, and Ramsay's Histories of So. Ca. And the information of some of our old inhabitants. And I take this opportunity to ofl'er my acknow ledgments to the Vestries of St. Philip's; St. Michael's; Christ Church; St. John's, 'berkley; St. John's, Colleton; St. Thomas and St. Dennis; St. Andrew's; Prince George, Winyaw; St. James', Santee; St. James', goose-creek, and St. Bartholomew's, for allowing me the use of their Journals, and likewise to many other Gentlemen, who have very obligingly furnished me with much interesting information. Book St Philip s Episcopal Church

Download or read book St Philip s Episcopal Church written by Jack Reak and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from St. Philip's Episcopal Church: A History; Brevard, North Carolina Now I think we had better take this Opportunity and sell the building and devote the proceeds to fencing in the land and protecting it for a cemetery as was planned long ago. Please send me the proper authority to sell and we can then determine what is best to be done with the proceeds in case the Trustees of the Jurisdiction (missionary Jurisdiction of Asheville) do not approve of fencing the land. I would rather not have this matter discussed here as some of the old ladies in the Parish are fond of interfering and in matters of business, I think the least said the better. As the Treasurer of the Parish I presume I am the proper one to attend to these matters. Mr. Rooney has not yet grasped the situation here so I have not troubled him with the details as here set out. Have merely told him that I was going to dispose of it if possible. As I understand, the building was never consecrated as it was intended for uses as a school, as well as church building. [the building was consecrated April 28, The price will be determined by a competent and honest carpenter and builder. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Sketch of St. Philip's Church, Charleston, S. C: From the Establishment of the Church of England Under the Royal Charter of 1655 to July, 1897 The early history of St. Philip's Church is but a part of the colonial history of South Carolina; and as it has been said of Westminster Abbey that it was a part of the Constitution of England, so St. Philip's was interwoven into the very fabric of the Province. The charter of King Charles II, (1665, ) under which the colony was founded, granted unto the Lords Proprietors "the patronage and advowsons of all the churches and chappels" (i. e. the power to name and appoint ministers) "which as the Christian religion shall increase within the Province, territory, islets and limits aforesaid, shall happen hereafter to be erected; together with license and power to build and found churches, chappels and oratories in convenient and fit places within the said bounds and limits, and to cause them to be dedicated and consecrated according to the ecclesiastical laws of our Kingdom of England."
