Book excerpt: Descendants of the emigrant ancestor, Jost Hite (Hans Justus Heyd) (1685-1761), son of Johannes Jost and Magdalena Heyd. He was born in Bonfeld, Germany. He married Anna Maria Merckle (b. 1664), daughter of Abraham and Anne Veronica Merckle in 1704. About 1710 they left Germany for Rotterdam and on to London. Later they immigrated to America. They had ten children. Two oldest died in infancy. One daughter, Mary, was born in Holland, and seven more were born in America. This book follows the descendants of Elizabeth Hite (b. 1711), who was born in Kingston, N.Y and lived in Philadelphia, married Paul Froman (b. 1708) in 1729; Magdalena Hite (b.1713), who was born in Kingston, and married Jacob Chrisman in 1730; John Hite (b. 1718), also born in Kingston, married Sarah Eltinge of Frederickton ca. 1735 and some descendants of Mary Hite (b. ca. 1709).
