Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. A. Torrey was an American evangelist, a Bible scholar, and successor to D. L. Moody. A graduate of Yale, he was ordained to the ministry in 1878. In the opening chapter, Torrey describes the purpose of his book. “We begin herewith a series of studies of the person and work of the Holy Spirit. We shall begin this series by considering what the Bible has to say about the Holy Spirit as a person. It is impossible to rightly understand the work of the Holy Spirit, or to get into right relation with the Holy Spirit Himself and thus know His blessed work in our own souls, without first coming to know the Holy Spirit as a person. One of the most fruitful sources of error and misconception, of unwholesome enthusiasm and false fire and fanaticism, in the treatment of this whole subject, is from trying to know the work of the Holy Spirit before we first come to know the Holy Spirit Himself.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Who the Holy Spirit is determines what the Holy Spirit does. Who is the Holy Spirit? aims to help people see who the Holy Spirit is through Scripture’s description of him, offering biblical insights into the identity of the third person of the Trinity. With consideration for the Spirit’s identity derived from both Old and New Testament accounts, author Malcolm B. Yarnell focuses on identifying characteristics of the person of the Holy Spirit himself, rather than discussing the work of the Spirit solely in the context of salvation and sanctification, or external signs and wonders.”

Book THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Download or read book THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT written by R.A TORREY and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-29 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "How can the Holy Spirit have more of me?" The conception of the Holy Spirit as a Divine influence or power that we are somehow to get hold of and use, leads to self-exaltation and self-sufficiency. One who so thinks of the Holy Spirit and who at the same time imagines that he has received the Holy Spirit will almost inevitably be full of spiritual pride and strut about as if he belonged to some superior order of Christians. One frequently hears such persons say, "I am a Holy Ghost man," or "I am a Holy Ghost woman." But if we once grasp the thought that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person of infinite majesty, glory and holiness and power, who in marvelous condescension has come into our hearts to make His abode there and take possession of our lives and make use of them, it will put us in the dust and keep us in the dust. I can think of no thought more humbling or more overwhelming than the thought that a person of Divine majesty and glory dwells in my heart and is ready to use even me.

Book Holy Spirit

Download or read book Holy Spirit written by Josué Matos and published by . This book was released on with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we delve into the depths of the nature and role of the Holy Spirit, a central and often misunderstood figure within the Holy Trinity. To correctly understand who the Holy Spirit is, it is necessary to believe in the Trinity, a fundamental truth of the Christian faith that was “once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 3). From the beginning of creation, we see the active presence of the Holy Spirit, moving over the formless waters (Genesis 1:2). This creative and dynamic presence is a constant throughout the Scriptures, showing that each Person of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—participates equally in the creation and sustenance of the universe. “In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens” (Genesis 2:4), “God created all things by Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 3:9), and “by His Spirit He adorned the heavens” (Job 26:13). The personality of the Holy Spirit is another essential truth we address in this study. He is not a mere influence or impersonal force; He is a divine Person with will, mind, and emotions. He hears, speaks, teaches, forbids, intercedes, and can be obeyed or even grieved (Ephesians 4:30). These characteristics are fundamental to understanding the personal relationship we can have with the Holy Spirit, who is co-equal, co-eternal, and co-substantial with the Father and the Son. The attributes of the Holy Spirit—His omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, eternity, and holiness—are explored in depth. These attributes not only reveal the divinity of the Spirit but also His constant action in our regeneration and sanctification. He is the power by which Jesus was raised from the dead (1 Peter 3:18) and the agent who regenerates us to new life (John 3:5-6). We also delve into the revealing titles of the Holy Spirit, such as the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17), the Spirit of Holiness (Romans 1:4), and the Spirit of Promise (Ephesians 1:13), each illuminating a specific aspect of His work and character. In this book, my goal is to provide a deeper and more reverent understanding of the Holy Spirit, highlighting His vital importance in the life of the Christian and the ongoing work of God in the world. May this study inspire renewed appreciation and greater dependence on the Holy Spirit, leading to a life of greater holiness and intimacy with God.
