Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Brief Course in Elementary Dynamics The problems at the ends of various sections have been selected out of a card index which has been collected from various sources through a number of years. Few of them are original, but the sources from which they were obtained have been lost. The author is under deep obligation to his colleague Assistant Professor Arthur T. Jones who has read the entire proof and has pointed out several errors and rendered clear, many obscure passages. To Professor Jones is also due the entire section on wave motion. Book An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle And of Rigid Bodies

Download or read book An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle And of Rigid Bodies written by S. L. Loney and published by Loney Press. This book was released on 2007-03 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE. THE Author of this very practical treatise on Scotch Loch - Fishing desires clearly that it may be of use to all who had it. He does not pretend to have written anything new, but to have attempted to put what he has to say in as readable a form as possible. Everything in the way of the history and habits of fish has been studiously avoided, and technicalities have been used as sparingly as possible. The writing of this book has afforded him pleasure in his leisure moments, and that pleasure would be much increased if he knew that the perusal of it would create any bond of sympathy between himself and the angling community in general. This section is interleaved with blank shects for the readers notes. The Author need hardly say that any suggestions addressed to the case of the publishers, will meet with consideration in a future edition. We do not pretend to write or enlarge upon a new subject. Much has been said and written-and well said and written too on the art of fishing but loch-fishing has been rather looked upon as a second-rate performance, and to dispel this idea is one of the objects for which this present treatise has been written. Far be it from us to say anything against fishing, lawfully practised in any form but many pent up in our large towns will bear us out when me say that, on the whole, a days loch-fishing is the most convenient. One great matter is, that the loch-fisher is depend- ent on nothing but enough wind to curl the water, -and on a large loch it is very seldom that a dead calm prevails all day, -and can make his arrangements for a day, weeks beforehand whereas the stream- fisher is dependent for a good take on the state of the water and however pleasant and easy it may be for one living near the banks of a good trout stream or river, it is quite another matter to arrange for a days river-fishing, if one is looking forward to a holiday at a date some weeks ahead. Providence may favour the expectant angler with a good day, and the water in order but experience has taught most of us that the good days are in the minority, and that, as is the case with our rapid running streams, -such as many of our northern streams are, -the water is either too large or too small, unless, as previously remarked, you live near at hand, and can catch it at its best. A common belief in regard to loch-fishing is, that the tyro and the experienced angler have nearly the same chance in fishing, -the one from the stern and the other from the bow of the same boat. Of all the absurd beliefs as to loch-fishing, this is one of the most absurd. Try it. Give the tyro either end of the boat he likes give him a cast of ally flies he may fancy, or even a cast similar to those which a crack may be using and if he catches one for every three the other has, he may consider himself very lucky. Of course there are lochs where the fish are not abundant, and a beginner may come across as many as an older fisher but we speak of lochs where there are fish to be caught, and where each has a fair chance. Again, it is said that the boatman has as much to do with catching trout in a loch as the angler. Well, we dont deny that. In an untried loch it is necessary to have the guidance of a good boatman but the same argument holds good as to stream-fishing...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Dynamics spans the full range of mechanics problems, from one-dimensional particle kinematics to three-dimensional rigid-body dynamics, including an introduction to Lagrange's and Kane's methods. It skillfully blends an easy-to-read, conversational style with careful attention to the physics and mathematics of engineering dynamics, and emphasizes the formal systematic notation students need to solve problems correctly and succeed in more advanced courses.

Book Elementary Plane Rigid Dynamics

Download or read book Elementary Plane Rigid Dynamics written by H. W. Harkness and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Plane Rigid Dynamics focuses on the basic ideas of particle dynamics, including center of gravity, inertia, friction, and oscillations. The publication first offers information on the motion of a rigid body around a fixed axis. Discussions focus on moment of inertia for a sphere for an axis through its center of gravity; moment of inertia of a cylinder for an axis through its center of gravity and normal to its axis of figure; and moment of inertia of a rectangular parallelepiped for an axis normal to one of its faces and through its center of gravity. The text then elaborates on the general plane motion of a rigid body and some special problems involving friction. Topics include belt and rope friction, power transmitted by a flat disk coupling, friction in a flat step bearing, meaning of the general torque equation for plane motion, superelevation of the outer rail on a railway curve, kinetic energy, and equilibrium. The book takes a look at undamped simple harmonic motion and damped and forced oscillations, including vibrations with damping, compound pendulum, and amplitude of forced oscillations in the steady state. The publication is a valuable source of data for students interested in plane rigid dynamics.

This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle and of Rigid Bodies In the following work I have tried to write an elementary class-book on those parts of Dynamics of a Particle and Rigid Dynamics which are usually read by Students attending a course of lectures in plied Mathematics for a Science or Engineering Degree, and by Junior Students for Mathematical Honours. Within the limits with which it professes to deal, I Hope it will be found to be fairly complete. I assume that the Student has previously read some such course as is included in my Elementary Dynamics. I also assume that he possesses a fair working knowledge of Differential and Integral Calculus; the Differential Equations, with which he will meet, are solved in the d104, and in an Appendix he will find a summary of the methods of solution of such equations. In Rigid Dynamics I have chiefly confined myself to two-dimensional motion, and I have omitted all reference to moving axes. I have included in the book a large number of Examples, mostly collected from University and College Examination Papers; I have verified every question, and hope that there will not be found a large number of serious errors. For any corrections, or suggestions for improvement, I shall be grateful. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book An Elementary Treatise on Dynamics

Book excerpt: "Although in recent years several most important works on Dynamics have been published in England, yet none have been issued which seem to fill the role contemplated in this book. In its composition we have started from the most elementary conceptions, so that any Student who is acquainted with the notation of the Calculus can commence the treatise without requiring the previous study of any other work on the subject. The first half contains a tolerably full treatment of what is usually styled the Dynamics of a Particle. The latter half treats of the Kinematics and Kinetics of Eigid Bodies; and throughout we have kept the practical nature of the subject in view, and have, in general, avoided purely fancy problems. In an early chapter we have introduced and elucidated the general principle of Work or Energy, and have given subsequently a more complete treatment of this great principle, illustrating it by a brief application to the theory of Thermodynamics."--Page v
