The novels story is the unfolding process of Alex McKay discovering the secrets of that mysterythe reasons for Cornells unusual relationships with those who knew him, the enigmas associated with the man, and ultimately the elements in his life that led to his disappearance. As the plot develops, Alex becomes increasingly involved with those who were close to the author. He also becomes aware of a strange, seemingly unaccountable connection between himself and the missing Cornell. A series of clues, left by Cornell, eventually lead Alex McKay to an unpublished manuscriptan autobiography that provides the answer to the mystery. That answer begins with the question weve all asked ourselves: If I could do it over again, knowing what I know now, how would I live my life? Alex discovers John Cornell was given the chance to do just that. The core of act three of my story is what Cornell does with that chancewhat he does right, and what he does wrong. Cornells adventures in his second world become a play within a play, and ultimately reveal why the author disappeared and where he has gone. Finally, when Alex McKay discovers John Cornells fate, he also discovers his own. He finds the reason for the link between himself and Cornellwhy the lives of two men who never met, in the world Alex knew, were destined to be interwoven in a much larger fabric of time.

"The opposite of loneliness, it's not togetherness. It is intimacy." "Look in a mirror and one thing's sure: what we see is not who we are." The book of Hebrews is unique among the New Testament books in its portrait of Jesus. He stands as the bridge between the Old and New Testaments, between eternity and time, between man and God, between judgment and forgiveness. Hebrews provides the first explanation of why Christ came. In it, we see Him minister as both high priest and eternal sacrifice. Charles Darwin called Hebrews: "the Royal book," it was the book he turned to in his last months. In "The Bridge to Eternity," we explore the extraordinary ministry of Jesus as understood by the early Christians and see its relevance today.

Book The Bridge to Eternal Life

Download or read book The Bridge to Eternal Life written by Ronald A Train and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-12-09 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks, in an Australian context, to provide assurance to the reader about eternal life. To achieve this, the book investigates the evidence for eternal life from the Bible and contrasts such evidence with nonbiblical sources. Attention is given to how the Bible authenticates eternal life and how ones profession of faith brings assurance of eternal life. Then systematically, the truth of eternal life is revealed by examining the Old Testament, the Intertestamental period, the New Testament, and the problematic subject of the intermediate state. In the final two chapters, the book critically evaluates nonbiblical views about eternal life and concludes with a chapter titled 'Soul-Searching Insights' to fuel the inquisitive mind.

Book A Bridge to Eternity Centuries Old and New

Download or read book A Bridge to Eternity Centuries Old and New written by Steven McCann and published by Xlibris Us. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A Bridge to Eternity' and 'Centuries Old and New' both have as their starting point a work place in the modern American business world. The first is set in the posh headquarters of a large corporation, the second in a small Eastside restaurant. My heroes, Jonah Bellamy, the middle-aged assistant CEO, and Christoff Angelis, a teenager pedaling deliveries to midtown high rises with the dream of having his own restaurant, are equally honorable men. But whereas Jonah's decency and well-meaning are betrayed by the dark politics of billionaire trustees, Christoff's nobility is ultimately rewarded. Jonah is left to navigate the colder elements of our society, bereft of employment, family or friends, except for his loyal secretary, his old college roommate, and a good Samaritan he meets by chance. Yet Christoff, holding onto his dream and his joy of preparing food for others, finds love and companionship. The enduring devotion of his Greek mother adds a decisive ingredient to help him triumph over the pitfalls of starting a business and the vicissitudes of life.

Book The World Is a Narrow Bridge

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A book that looks at existence with equal measures of fear, humility and gratitude. In a time when novelists tend to be more concerned with psychology than the soul, that makes it a rare and valuable thing.” --Sam Sacks, Wall Street Journal From the author of Mr. Eternity, a darkly comic road novel about a millennial couple facing the ultimate question: how to live and love in an age of catastrophe. Young Miami couple Murphy and Eva have almost decided to have a baby when Yahweh, the Old Testament God, appears to Eva and makes an unwelcome demand: He wants her to be his prophet. He also wants her to manage his social media presence. Yahweh sends the two on a wild road trip across the country, making incomprehensible demands and mandating arcane rituals as they go. He gives them a hundred million dollars, but he asks them to use it to build a temple on top of a landfill. He forces them to endure a period of Biblical wandering in the deserts of the southwest. Along the way they are continually mistaken for another couple, a pair of North Carolina society people, and find themselves attending increasingly bizarre events in their names. At odds with their mission but helpless to disobey, Murphy and Eva search their surroundings for signs of a future they can have faith in. Through wry observations about the biggest things--cosmology and theology--and the smallest things--the joys and irritations of daily life--Thier questions the mysterious forces that shape our fates, and wonders how much free will we really have. Equal parts hilarious and poignant, The World Is a Narrow Bridge asks: What kind of hope can we pass on to the next generation in a frightening but beautiful world?

Book excerpt: A view of the eons or of the ages When the sovereignties and authorities and powers of the universe were created, they were of spirit only, having no comprehension of righteousness or salvation and, least of all, faith to know God. Their souls were eternal and could not die a final death. God knew He must provide a way for them to enter a dying state and then become a new creation, one that would come to know God by their own faith. He made the eons in Christ Jesus, a world of tangible and visible substance, which could be seen and heard and touched. He brought the souls of those beings into the eons to place them in human bodies. God made Adam and placed him in the garden of Eden. He told Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for the day he disobeyed Him, he would begin to die. When Adam ate of that tree, he did begin to die. Every human being after Adam inherited the same dying state. These are souls of celestial beings having become the souls of humanity. Paul termed this process, both the powerful operation of God and the untraceable riches of Christ (see Eph. 3:7B-12). This was the multifarious wisdom of God acting in accord with the purpose of the eons and made in Christ Jesus our Lord. Now when Jesus has placed all his enemies under his feet and hands the entire kingdom over to his God and Father, those celestial beings shall be nullified. They will have become swallowed up by humanity and become an all new creation, and God shall be All in all. See 1 Corinthians 15:24-28. ECT

Book excerpt: An Indie Next Pick "Mr. Eternity will be sizzling in my brain for a long time." -Lauren Groff A Thurber Prize Finalist of exuberance and ambition, spanning one thousand years of high-seas adventure, environmental and cultural catastrophe, and enduring love. Key West, 2016. Sea levels are rising, coral reefs are dying. In short, everything is going to hell. It's here that two young filmmakers find something to believe in: an old sailor who calls himself Daniel Defoe and claims to be five hundred and sixty years old. In fact, old Dan is in the prime of his life--an incredible, perhaps eternal American life. The story unfolds over the course of a millennium, picking up in the sixteenth century in the Viceroyalty of New Granada and continuing into the twenty-sixth, where, in the future Democratic Federation of Mississippi States, Dan serves as an advisor to the King of St. Louis. Some things remain constant throughout the centuries, and being on the edge of ruin may be one. In 1560, the Spaniards have destroyed the Aztec and Inca civilizations. In 2500, we've destroyed our own: the cities of the Atlantic coast are underwater, the union has fallen apart, and cars, plastics, and air conditioning are relegated to history. But there are other constants too: love, humor, and old Dan himself, always adapting and inspiring others with dreams of a better life. An ingenious, hilarious, and genre-bending page-turner, Mr. Eternity is multiple novels in one. Together they form an uncommon work--about our changing planet and its remarkable continuities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Always," wrote Philip Larkin, "it is by bridges that we live." Bridges represent our aspirations to connect, to soar across divides. And it is the unfinished business of these aspirations that makes bridges such stirring sights, especially when they are marvels of ingenuity. A rich compendium of myths, superstitions, literary and ideological figurations, as well as architectural and musical illustrations, Of Bridges organizes a poetic and philosophical history of bridges into nine thematic clusters. Leaping in lucid prose between seemingly unrelated times and places, Thomas Harrison gives a panoramic account of the diverse meanings and valences of human bridges, questioning why they are built and where they lead. He investigates bridges as flashpoints in war and the mega-bridges of our globalized world. He probes links forged by religion between life's transience and eternity and the consolidating ties of music, illustrated in a case study of the blues. He illuminates the real and symbolic crossings facing migrants each day and the affective connections that make persons and societies cohere. In fine and intricate readings of literature, philosophy, art, and geography, Harrison engages in a profound reflection on how bridges form and transform cultural communities. Interdisciplinary and deeply lyrical, Of Bridges is a mesmerizing, vertiginous tale of bridges both visible and invisible, both lived and imagined.
